How do we beat the Rorters?

The first step to beating Roosters is to ensure that Matterson plays 5/8. I know that Benji and the injury prone Reynolds would like that spot but Matterson brings attack and very good defence at 5/8.
Once our attack and defence at the pivot role works as it did last night our chances against the Rooster increase greatly. No flat backline or big gaps in the centre of the field like we provided against Eels.

@Newtown - Matterson at 6 worked for us didn't it. If you play ET as well you get better defence.

Have to keep their edge players out of the game. If we don't turn up to defend out wide they will cut us to shreds.

All comes down to completions and discipline .We have to complete at 90% and give away next to zero penalties. Even than it probably will not be enough but it is the only way to survive against the Chooks.

Realistically I can’t see us getting within about 14, but you never know, they held the Titian’s out for plenty of consecutive sets on our line yesterday and they are no slouch in attack

I see merit in leaving Matterson at 6 and keeping McQueen and ET in the second row. Both were extremely solid in defence.

Matto linked very well with the other three yesterday, didn't look out of place at all.

We can definitely beat top sides on our good nights. Our main problem over a season is consistently beating the teams around and below us. As was noted previously, last year we won 3/4 games against the ultimate Grand Finalists, with the 4th game only being missed by 2 points and a last-ditch try-saver from Toupou.

Roosters this year are out of the blocks fast and struggle a little in the second half when possession evens out. Therefore you need to keep possession, which we have been good at doing in 2019, and you need line speed in defence with kick pressure. Kick pressure was non-existent in the first 20 against Titans and that's how they got their tries / try opportunities, from pressure-free kicks. Roosters will kick for Toupou same as Titans for Don.

We are a poor starting team and Roosters are great, so it's a matter of improving our starts, then coming home over the top of a tiring Roosters.

They aren't a huge pack, so if we get up fast we limit their go-forward. Same with the backs, they prefer early ball rather than hole-running, so getting up and holding the line limits the impact of Latrell and Tedesco.

Kicking is also vital - need to keep the ball on the ground wherever possible and kick preferentially to Toupou if you aren't bombing. Reason is that Toupou is a master of the air but less effective on the deck. And if he fields the kick, he can't be taking the 2nd or 3rd tackle hitups.

Markers need to be awake too because Tedesco loves going from DH and stepping back behind the ruck. Every time Tedesco goes to DH he is running and you have to be ready for it.

Well this depends on which team rolls up the Winners or the Losers it is a lottery to know which these days.

We need to get them into a scramble. If we try and play any type of free flowing or fast game we are going to lose. What do we need to do:

- Hope it rains to take some punch out of their attack
- Win the penalty count
- Have a high completion rate.
- Frustrate them with line speed.
- Hope we get some lucky bounces.
- We must kick well and make use of our last tackle options in good areas

And see what happens, that may not be good enough still. Like last year, we need to turn it into a bit of a fizzer of a game. We aren't beating them in any high quality game of league.

The game isn't played on paper, but if we do beat them it is because we played amazingly and they had a bad day.

I might be dreaming .... but they must be due for a bad game.
Trouble is it may not be this week and suppose we also just had a win so its our turn to have a loss this week?

Winners never think oooooh I hope the other team have a bad day...Winners win...it's not only the Wests Tigers that need to change this mentality..

We can only hope that a Flu goes through the team and none of there 15 rep players can play... Surely someone has inside catering connections :hot_pepper: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Measels are quite contagious i have heard 😜

Have someone make allegations against 3 or 4 of their best players & let the NRL's no fault stand down rule do the rest.
