How do you see Sheens using Bell

I dunno….I dont see much in him, has never impressed me....hope that changes

I never rated the bloke either but admittedly never watched him that closely. Gibbs was under-rated; Bell just isn't rated at all.

I'm reserving judgement until a few games in.

Watched him very closely after signing him and first two games I saw he played 17min and 21min as his first spells, both times he made one 2tackles and zero hit ups. That's pathetic! Don't rate him in top 17, he will be there as depth in premier league

The bloke has a great work ethic. What must be taken into account is the fact the he has come on to the field when the Panthers have been behind the eight ball more times then not and trying to dig themselves out of a hole. He makes plenty of tackles and has a big engine. Will be an asset for 2012.

Yeh I watched one game very close to and one period there there was five sets with posession swing back and forth, now its one thing in possession the ball can go the other side….but 5 sets I saw him do nothing, no hit ups/runs no tackles not even a 3rd man in...and hed only been on for about 10 mins
If he were a winger I could understand it...anyway hopefully a change of scenery changes all that

Ink we must hav watched the same game, it was disgraceful, and besides regardless of whether ur coming on the field with ur team behind the 8 ball he is a prop he has to dig his heals in and work… And he did nothing..
I am hoping i will be wrong, but don't have him in our strongest 17 at this stage unles he picks up.. We r spending money on him so obviously I hope he will be good, but hasn't at all impressed me

I just meant in terms of his overall impact on the game tigelogic. The game I saw he made over 10 hitups and 30+ tackles in 50min so you'd have to look at his stats for every game to get an example of his work ethic, not just one game. As said previously he will be used to keep the ruck tight when big Keith and Woods go off, if he finds himself in our top 17\. Anyway he has never stood out to me but an honest first grader he is.

Absolutely agree u can't judge on one game, was just stating I wasn't impressed, and think he will really have to earn his spot over guys like BMM on bench if he makes it..

Bell will struggle to get a game unless we have a few injuries or some of the younger guys go off the rails.

I suspect he was signed before Groat and Woods developed so much. With Fulton pushing for a starting role and Blair coming in and Ellis moving to prop.

Woods and Galloway to start, Ellis and Blair with Fulton, BMM and Groat on bench. Then rotate as needed.

I know Sheensy made a side comment about shifting Ellis to Prop, but I honestly can't understand why he would. His combo with Chris and Lote on the left side was the reason we were so dominant in 2010.

I hope sheensy doesn't try to fix something that isn't broken.

I am happy we signed him. As good as youth and potential are, you still need the no frills old school prop/forward. Even if he only ever fills in the bench for injuries, he is still a decent pickup IMO.

Bell will do the job Gibbs done but wont give away too many silly penalties like Bryce

So when the opposition make a line break on tackle two, theyre on a roll 30m out and our defense is shot and its Bell thats made the tackle, do you mean to say he will ''movement now'' very quickly in order to not giive away a penalty allowing them an even bigger roll on…..he wont lie all over the player coz he know our line is shot to bits and a try is odds on?

You clearly dont understand what a breather penalty is

Ink, although I think CC is selling Gibbs short, or being very optimistic on Bell, you must concede that Gibbs at times gave away too many penalties, he progressively got better in that dept, but it was his weakness, and not all of them were "good" penalties .

we will miss Gibbs, but I am confident that the young props will continue to improve, and in some ways we will improve on last years, i believe that Groat and woods will even next year be better balls runners than Gibbs, I think there is little doubt our defence will be worse in the centre around the ruck, this cant be under estimated.
Woods and Groat have the potential to be stronger in the impact than Gibbs, if Woods really focussed on covering the inside and gibbs and line speed we could be stronger. That is factoring alot of improvement, this is by no means guranteed.

I was thinking before how will we use Bell ??
Will he be used off the bench with Woods or Ellis are starting props ??
Will Bell himself be a starting prop ??
So many questions who has an answer ??

What about Galloway?

Hammer I wonder if Sheens plan to use Ellis as a prop after first interchange and then bring on either Rhino,Fulton or BMM to play in the 2nd row Then he can use his props in shorter more damaging roles and not wear out Woods and Groat ?? Just a thought

You never know what shifty sheens might do Happy. We all know the bloke isn't happy playing guys in their natural positions, so you could well be right.

We will have 5 good 2nd rowers next year (Blair,Ellis,Heigno,Fult,BMM). 4 of which are internationals (well BMM, Jnr Kiwis). So, he may need to find a way to get them all decent game time.

If any of them move to the Front Row though, I think it will be Blair and not Ellis. I think Bell will definitely be in the mix and will straight out replace the defensive work of Gibbs.

Either way, we will have plenty of options next year in the Forwards! Something we haven't had in a long time.

Woods will move into Gibbs starting spot. Bell will most likely take Woods spot on the bench.

bell is an interchange player at best. would you have bought him?

He comes across as a guy with a great attitude, a real pro who does the little things right. I think the thinking was he would replace Payten as sort of the "leader" of the forwards, an experienced level head to help out the younger guys.
