Humphreys and Skando disappointed with Campbelltown's crowd

Its funny you claim i'm on eyed towards the Magpies, then two posts later say we should drop the 'Wests' name and revert to the Sydney Tigers effectivley killing off the any connection to the Magpies. Nothing hypocritical about that. You're not by any chance the troll who was frquenting the Magpies forum a while back were you, claiming thats its in the Tigers best interest to kill off the Wests side of things? you sound very similar

Wests has a double meaning for WT

WESTS is of course the traditional reference for the Western Suburbs Magpies (1/2 of the JV) along with respective leagues clubs of WESTS Ashfield and WESTS

It also suits the geography of WT:

Inner West - Balmain/Concord/Ashfield

South West - Campbelltown/Macarthur

Parramatta and Penrith has established brands with no obvious need to change names.

Some good posts in this thread with ideas about billboards and the like promoting Wests Tigers in our local areas, would like to see the club get into this approach to promoting Wests Tigers as the local team.

There used to be smallish mobile billboards around the areas a few years back (city west & the crescent at annandale was one spot)

This threads a mega over reaction

A film? Interesting… What would you make a film on? 2005 GF? Fiction or non-fiction. This might need its own thread!

I didn't "forget" to mention the rebranding as the Sydney Tigers because I was trying to be respectful of former magpies supporters. The rebranding of the Balmain Tigers to the Sydney Tigers was before its time. We will soon be competing against the Western Panthers and the Greater Western Sydney Giants. The Wests Tigers brand is being eroded. We may as well return to Sydney Tigers and try to appeal a much broader base than just Campbelltown. We are competing for supporters across the NRL landscape, the days of local teams are gone.

Sydney Tigers was not ahead of its time, its just got blown out of the water by the Roosters and to a lesser extend Canterbury. Balmain tried something different and it failed and perhaps it was fate it did fail because the Wests Tigers brand is much better. To go back to "Sydney Tigers" would kill this club as we would then be in direct competition with the Roosters for sponsorship, not to mention losing control over a large portion of our current junior pool (I would envisage Canterbury or Penrith would get the Macarthur junior leagues). As much as the Roosters may not have juniors etc, they have effective off field management and some very heavy corporate support. In addition, the game is looking to further rationalise and reduce the number of teams in Sydney, why put all our eggs in one basket and go head to head with the Roosters? Believe me, we will not win.

Wests Tigers brand is perfect and it continues to build, not erode. It provides a differentiation from the inner city market, but does not completely dislocate the club from this area. So your comment that we should "try to appeal to a much broader base than just Campbelltown" is ludicrous, because the club is already doing this with a blend of sponsorship and fans across Sydney - the entire focus is not Campbelltown and rightly so.

And definitley pictures of Farah and Marshall at the train station would be a good addition to. The sight of the Wests Tigers smacking you right in the face as you get off the train would be pretty cool imo

I wouldve thought this stuff was the norm in Sydney… You cant turn onto a major road or major precinct without seeing the bloody head of Sam Thaiday and his Donkeys on the Sunshine Coast.

This isnt happening in Campbelltown?

I don't know as i don't live there. If it isn't it should be. From what i've seen the only place that has a WT feel is Wests Leagues. When you walk into the main foyer, theres a massive photo of the 05 team with the premiership trophy. McArthur square is another place that should be covered in WT imagery if it isn't already. Same goes for our area in inner-Sydney. Every place that is considered Tiger territory should have this as it would build a sense of owenership and tribalism

Wests leagues, in my opinion, couldn't care less about our Wests Tigers and them trying to have us believe that is complete B.S.

I say this as I was denied entry into the club 5 mins before kick off to watch an away game on the big TV, for get this…

.,, wearing a Wests Tigers jersey.

The place is a joke.

That is completely unacceptable. You must write to the board and request a formal response.

We did call and complain but as usual in this type of scenario, was apologised to and was told to expect a call soon but then forgotten about.

After reading my OP I would rephrase it to "a majority of their staff couldn't care less". If the club tries to "support" the Wests Tigers with memorabilia and such, then the staff should be trained to acknowledge it and to know the club policies sign that stands behind them and they enforce all night - "jerseys are not permitted, expect on game day".

Needless to say, we went to the Catholic Club and had great service and haven't set foot in the Wests Leagues Club since.

What do Wests Tigers have planned to promote the next Campbelltown game? I note that Ellery Hanley will be at Leichhardt for the game against the Sydney Roosters and this has received great exposure, surely Humphrey's wont go into the next Campbelltown game poorly promoted again for the third time this year?

Are the players alone not enough promotion? 13,000 against the Cowboys was simply unacceptable. Cmon people be realistic. You had Benji, Robbie, Blair, Lawrence, Galloway and Woods up against Thurston, Tate, Bowen, Tamou and Scott. And this is no disrespect to the other players on display.

Ellery Hanley has nothing to do with me wanting to go and watch my team line up against Minichello, Anasta, Pearce, Leilua and JWH.

I live in Wollongong and have not missed 1 home game this season. Im lucky enough to finish work at 2pm Monday to Friday so getting to Friday night games is not so bad. I get home just before midnight and still turn up for work at 4:30 on Saturday morning.

Stop blaming the club for lack of promotions etc for low crowds. If you can, go and support your team and enjoy the players that are on display. Some of these players are once in a generation.

Let me add this is the 1st year Ive been a member. Buying a membership MAKES you go to the game regardless of the promotion.

i thought it was a good crowd for a c/town game against a NORTH QUEENSLAND team lets see how many they get tomorrow @ Leichhardt Oval ,they better fill this joint with 2 sydney teams

Promotion has nothing to do with getting Tigers fans or members to the game. We all know when, where and who is playing on any given day. Let's face most of us are hanging out for the team announcement at 5 o'clock every Tuesday.

Promotion is needed so that those who are not diehards like us, those who just enjoy a game of footy and future Tiger fans are informed of those games coming up.
In other words the extra 2-3000 fans that everyone is whinging about.

13000 Tiger fans showed up at CSS to see those players you spoke of, unfortunately the extra few thousand you want live in North Qld

At this point in time, Wests Tigers are pushing up towards being
a glamour club (all bias aside). We have super stars, Benji Marshall,
Lote Tuquri and to a lesser extent Robbie Farah. We have a super high
profile guy in Beau Ryan (possibly more important than the even Benji).
We are running hot (one premiership, last two seasons top four, this
year heading in the right direction). We have a good brand.

It depends what Penrith does, but Snake hit it a couple of posts back.
The "Wests Sydney Tigers". Penrith are going to look to leech off our
brand. It is a club with next to no supporters, the poker machine revenue
is drying up and has as much future as cigarette advertising. What they
have are "potential supporters" in the greater west. They tried to kill
Wests Magpies by joining "super league" along with "Cronulla". Penrith
are a desperate and filthy club that needs to be watched. Cronulla will
die soon, but Penrith will survive by virtue of being in the West.

The Sydney Tigers didn't get blown out of the water by the Roosters. Balmain
spent the best part of 10 years winning and made two grand finals. They
spent ten years with a team of state of origin and Australian
players. When they started losing the crowds disappeared. I would love to
see the Tigers go head to head with the Roosters. The move from being
known by suburb to being known by emblem has been enormously damaging for
the Roosters ie. Moving from Easts versus Balmain to Tigers versus Roosters
has hurt them not us. Kids don't dream about being a chicken. Their
major sponsor is steggles for crying out loud. They have the corporate
market in chicken sales covered and have no supporters. Nobody cares
about the Roosters except Nick Politis. He has been around for a long time,
and when he goes, so will the Roosters.

The Wests Tigers brand being perfect doesn't hold. Things change and we need
to stay ahead of those changes. We are moving out in front and we need to
stay there. We can't just close shop regarding branding as you suggest.
