I need advice and wisdom from internet savvy people.

We are streaming a fair bit of tv over the internet. Currently on a 25GB bundle with telstra for $100 per month. The new plans are $120 for 100GB or $150 for 200GB. Our plan also has Foxtel on top, but I think I am going to give this away as we don't have the cash.

My Exchange will only allow us to use providers that wholesale lines from telstra. Most of these can only offer ADSL not ADSL2\. So basically I have to pay massive overs to stay with Telstra, or I can go unlimited bundle with Dodo for $90 a month not on a contract, if I want ADSL2.

Always heard bad things about Dodo, but really want unlimited ADSL2\. Advice….
 
We've had quite a few ISPs over the year.

We're with Telstras cable bundle ATM and couldn't be happier. 200 GB, unlimited local national calls and ITS CABLE!

Telstras service over the phone is obviously crap but once the internet is installed- we haven't had much to complain about. Over the last year, we haven't had a single dropout and our areas connectivity is really crap.

Telstra may cost that $10 or few extra than others but it's more than worth it if you decide to get cable.

My friends have TPG Unlimited and they don't complain much either.

Thanks mate, it does help although I cannot get cable as I am in Newcastle. If TPG had ADSL2 then I would go with them as I have been with them before.

Am scared to go with Dodo, but really want an unlimited plan and am on a budget.
 
Never heard anything bad about Dodo

We know two friends who have Dodo and are happy

Might be worth looking further into TS
 
I'm by no means an IT expert but my 2c worth are:

Don't get too caught up in the ADSL v ADSL2 thing. Just because Dodo or anyone advertises ADSL2 does not mean you'll get ADSL2 speeds at your place. As I understand it, it means ADSL2 is the highest possible speed you'll get if your circumstances allow it (we're talking distance to exchange and things like that).

Dodo are awful in my experience. Personally I'd pay more to avoid them. Even at "ADSL2" the speeds I got were comparable if not slower than ADSL offered by other ISPs. Also I was constantly getting phone calls from them trying to upsell or flog one of their many other businesses. I've been with TPG and Optus and found both them are much better than Dodo in terms of download speed and reliability. Dodo seem to have a lot of connection issues.

You should maybe wander over the Whirlpool forums and check out some of the discussions there.

You will have to read between the lines with the Whirlpool forums there good but have many there that have axes to grind with various providers .My advice we have had Optus from the start and never had 1 problem .Unfortunately we are about to be sent back 15 years as we have to go over to the NBN what a disaster we have neighbours that can't even access the net after 4pm as it is slower than dial up and we live in the heart of the metro area ,the NBN will go done in history as the greatest @#$% up of all time .We are distrait about having to leave Optus.
 
What area are you in Snake, and why do you HAVE to go to NBN?

The NBN thing is something ive never quite understood/followed…why arent people allowed a choice?

PS agree with optus Ive been with them for years and no probs at all
 
Stay LOYAL to Telstra…
Been with em for a while now and my mobile is with em too...
All payable on the one bill, which I really like.

Also, they don't mind pumping out rewards.
Early access to tix for big footy games such as origin and the GF.
Cheap movie tickets, etc.

Love it.

that's what i've realised as well.

their customer service on the phone leaves a lot to be desired but chances are you wont be complaining to them about too much either.

as soon as i finish my voda plan, i want to get onto the telstra mobile plan as well.

i dont work for telstra but i would suggest telstra even with a bit extra that you have to pay.
 
Thanks everyone, appreciate the advice. Cannot go Optus unfortunately. Never really had a problem with Telstra, they are just so expensive.

I did check Whirlpool but I always feel people aren't giving an unbiased opinion.

Surprised by Snakes problem with NBN, I always thought that your internet would be much faster once you connected to it.
 
Been with Telstra Internet over 10 years, can't fault them. Recently forced onto the NBN, can't fault the process. Now get 50mbs dl speed, friend reaches over 70.

I pay less on NBN than I did before on adsl. I'm in Coffs Harbour area
