Isaiah Papali’i #265

If he goes to the warriors then mayby a swap with Josh Curran or Tohu Harris
Would definitely take Josh Curran but Papali'i is ours regardless.

So he has been over here for 2 years and he's so home sick for his partner that he signs a further contract for 3 years so he can be away from her for 5 years.

Sounds like a pretty solid relationship. He can see her every year in the crowd when we play a Worriers home game.

What a f***in' moron.

Just piss Lee off and put me in charge of this shit fight. Papali'i's arse is ours.

Forget about playing the family/Girl Friend/home sick card, didn't work for JAC at the storm, you've got a contract and you are ours unless we get a like for like trade plus dollars in compensation and at the moment I can't see any like for like trades out there.

How so? Because he has a GF in NZ?

It's not a great excuse is it. It's much more of an excuse compared to remaining at Parra which was never going to cut it.

The Warriors have released players due to the same reason.

I assume he will be here though.

The media interest in IP and his intentions is motivated by causing controversy. We should not be holding that against him just because he has been playing good footy and is in demand. What ever he says some fans will read something positive into it and others wont. He is entitled to focus on Parra without the badgering after all he is currently contracted to them.
Yes and no.

IP could easily hose all this down by doing what Api did - coming out and committing to honouring his contract. They asked Api all the same questions but that story evaporated because Api was smart enough to hose it down.

Whether by inability to manage the media, instructions from his manager or a genuine desire to remain at Parramatta, IP has fuelled the fire several times by failing to be definitive when talking about his new deal.

Even if he said "committed to Tigers but until the pre-season I am 100% committed to Eels and don't want to talk about anything else".

Then, on top of this, the media nonsense drags on.

This is getting ridiculous and a new reason every day now.

If he desperately needs to see his girlfriend more probably should just use that coin to fly her out to join him.

If he verbally commits , any bargaining power to squeeze more coin out of the tigers, goes out the window. I truly believe his manager is just agitating for top dollar because of the form he’s in. I would upgrade him as soon as he shows that he will maintain his form once in the tigers colors.

We've given him a top contract. 600k per year. How much do you think he is worth ?

What’s the best backrower in the comp worth? (In the managers eyes) top props been getting a mil

I don't think so. The average salary is 330k. I could be off a bit. There was an article about Hass recently and they stated no club will give him 1 million. They stated he might get that in union but that to me would be crazy. A rugby league prop plays a very different role to a union prop.

I reckon we've given him a fair value contract and there is no need to upgrade him.

He’s not average.

Put it this way, would there be any media speculation about backflipping if he signed with us for a million?

Edit: I think we got him for fair market value for a top 8 side

If he wants out to go home to NZ I can cop that a little better then staying at Parra. Still disappointing, but more understandable. Not sure Warriors have anyone we could use. Harris is the wrong side of 30, Fonda Blake would be awesome but is on massive overs, Murchie and Curran have a go, I like their effort a lot, but both defensively make errors.
