We have never been successful buying other clubs players. We have only done well when we developed and bought through our own. Look who we have bought over the last few years - most have been poor and taken up large amount of our cap. We need to stop looking for blokes like tpj bj jtj and develop our own kids. More of the Alex Seyfarths and the like. Our jersey Flagg side and Reggie’s are going well - let’s keep the good ones from these teams and develop them through. Sheensy can’t come quick enough.

look at cini...cult hero one week, rough game the next then dropped....now mamaulo is here what is cini to think or do?

he should've had a longer run in the team imo

Interesting observation - Madge signed mamaulo rushed him into the team without knowing any of the plays or players. It must be disheartening for players waiting in the wings to be trumpted by a newbie.

I actually don't understand wht we signed him???

He's an international level player... Saw a couple of glimpses last night

Watched 16 mins last night and turned it off.
Glad i did.

exactly... I understand Madge hasn't got them playing well, but expecting coaching to be the difference between the effort shown last week and at other periods of the season, and what should be expected from a professional player is absurd.

Coaching should be a what? 10% lift?

A hot streak confidence I wouldn't attribute more than a 10% lift, when passes that shouldn't stick do...

We expect Madge to drag these numpties way too far. Their average baseline performance is putrid. Its sad watching supposed $7M of talent all fold. Jellyfish.

Senior players who have been at the club for years and aren't trying to set a new culture are the issue

Or finding excuses to not play or leave early, roosters would have medically retired packer, what a joke.

Still reeks of a poor organisational culture.
Every single fault can be attributed back to poor club structures, systems, processes and cultures - our leadership, strategy, management (including risk management) and the whole character of the club.
On almost every level as a club we seem incompetent or vulnerable with little handle on the state of things.
We have a mountain of challenges with many undefined and no methods to improve or correct them

Lauren you have hit the bullseye!!
This is the real problem, hiring of decision makers who have no idea of organisational development. They know how to fire people though as it gives them a temporary reprieve. Makes it appear as though they are in control. Nothing could be further from the truth. They will continue to sack people until the club loses it’s soul.

The Sharks were a struggling club for many years. Look at their premiership team, it is filled with quality characters renowned for their hard work and discipline who also were talented players. There is a small minority of DHs (Barba, arguably Fifita) but those few were immensely talented (better than any player on our team) and were forced to keep their heads on by the fact that their teammates were such great leaders.

Take Lewis for example, attitude of Elijah Taylor but the talent of Ryan Matterson. We can't keep getting one or the other, we need need both. We can only afford to have very talented but poorly disciplined players like JTJ and Luc if the majority of the team has their heads screwed on. Ultimately you can obsess over coaches "changing the culture" all you want but it really comes down to the player.

On our roster the players I think fit the ideal talent and intangible requirements are Doueihi, Laurie, Stefano, Twal, Simpkin, Joffa (I think?), Seyfarth, Tamou once upon a time but past it now. I probably left someone off I'm sure

I’d put Luke Lewis up as the example Wests Tigers need to recruit in the next 2-3 years. If he’s not a Luke Lewis type character he won’t make this joint any better.

:100: agree.
How about a dose of a very annoying Michael Ennis to get things stirred up and in yuh face a bit.

And the players with a hearing problem ie listening to what Madge wants and carrying it out also need to be shown the door.

Its such an interesting thread. Lots of great comments and well said originally. I cant go past the thought that all the issues are in some way related. Maybe we should no see them in isolation. Pointing fingers wont work. Intangibles should and can exist in all parts of the club, front office, football department, and players. The approach from top down seems off. We seem desperate. We sign Ken Maumalo and he walked straight into first grade. Zac Cini got two games to prove himself. Why dont they give Cini another go? What does the jersey mean anymore?! They talk about having juniors pushing for spots then they just shun them. How the players feel I dont know but maybe their performance is reflective of a deep seeded issue that needs more than just a few mid season signings to fix. Maybe they need to overhaul their processes and come up with a system based approach or principled approach to running this club. It therefore needs to be a front office led turnaround in my view. The players are just playing in such a way that reflects the club at the moment. It could just be the water at concord because the West Harbour Pirates used to be exactly the same. Perennial mediocrity.
