Its Almost Over

WT don't play a modern style of game.
No ball movement, no depth in attack, no second phase play, no speed, no bodies in motion.
WT dont seem to have a game plan. One out play then kick on the last.
Whilst I don't want to sack another coach the team has gone backwards so no point there seem no alternative to part company.
Brooks needs a change of clubs to resurrect his career. To me he is a running 5/8 not a Half Back.
Sad our best 2 players are leaving at seasons end.
Can't see many wins this season.
I don’t think it’s so much as 4 hit up for a bomb but most certainly Madge’s style of coaching is to use all the tackles within the set to generate field position.
I’d argue though and I’d like anyone to challenge me that it’s possible that this style is a result of our current roster.
1. We do not have any backline speed besides Roberts who is not exactly a perpetual motion player. (He goes 100 miles an hour when he gets the ball but lacks the fitness / mental capacity to get involved when the opportunity might present.)
2. Our forwards are probably the weakest in the comp and fail to make up to ten metres a run.

If you factor that in.
Off the kick off we would catch the ball and be tackled about 10 out. Forward run 1 takes us to just before the 20, 2 to 30, 3 to 40. Most teams attack on play 4 and go to plan B on play 5. If you consider how dominated we are as mentioned above most of our ‘attacking’ plays would have to come out of our own half.
Now not one of our backline players have made a clear break from inside our half and had that directly lead to a try. That is a lack of pace.
So the alternative is to take all four plays with the forward pack and try and get as much field position as possible before a kick. Brooks is continually kicking under pressure being our only option in this space since Moses left. That means the opposition already starts their set with a roll on.
As I said based on our current roster, how would you play any differently?

Stats can be interesting but there is no denying the stats that back this up.
Last for kick return metres (backs receiving kicks under pressure).
Last for post contact metres.
2nd last for all run metres whilst being middle table for total runs.
3rd last for total kicks / total kick metres.

Well I hope the club has a blue print to get the club back on track . Here’s mind , the players I have slotted in , I don’t care what they have done before , I have selected them on what we need . 1st up who’s out.
Tamou
The two back rowers who have signed elsewhere
Liddle I would let him go
Brooks if we could get someone to take him for a good bit of the cap
Madden not a 1st grader
Roberts had his day
Laurie not a 1st grader
There are a couple of others
Now for the new players
Lodge he’s big makes good ground and hit hard
Matterson big runs good lines and played his best football here
Bird would be a great 13 for us
Atkin would give us a hard running centre and defender
Drinkwater great cover in the half’s and fullback
Tex hoy has looked good at fullback and had ball skills
So here’s my new look tigers

Stepo
Aki
Lodge
Matterson
Pappa
Bird
Hastings
Douhi
Nofa
Gildrard
Taula
Ken
Hoy

Drinkwater
Big joe
Mustgrove
Twal

Remember the players I have pick are on what we need not there past

Garner can perform at right centre and can hold down that position. Sure he is not a speedster but some of the best centres defended, hit a gap hard and set their wingers up without being overly quick. He is a starter and one less position we have to worry about. His versatility is a plus.

Kaito I always enjoy your input and see your passion....having said that, there are 2 things in your post that I have to mention....
1...If the players cant handle a brutal training session that conditions them for NRL..let them play in the womens league....
2...When the opportunity has arisen on many occasions to throw the ball around and set up an attack, some of these gifted NRL players throw forward passes, some passes over the heads, some passes at the bootlaces and give the ball back on many occasions and kill the momentum that they try to build...
Madge has faults....but these lay abouts make him look bad when he is doing his best with a rabble that have no footy smarts....

Thanks TT, don't disagree with what you've said, and definitely not excusing the players by any means. The organisation is devoid of responaibility besides clearing checks - something thats been filtered from the top down. The next couple of weeks are going to be very interesting...honestly look forward to it.

We turn the ball on the Inside a lot to single runners (centre/2nd row). Boring and predictable. No set pieces, our backs lack depth perception. Look at this video from over 10 yrs ago, from the Dummy half play, to the decoy. Whens the last time we've tried something like this? We've been trying high percentage plays with low percentage results. Can't remember last time we were deceptive Besides 4 hit ups, turn on the inside and put up the bomb. Easiest team to defend.

But that play you just highlighted was turning it back on the inside?

I believe Brooks loves the short ball as his go to big play. The out the back stuff is just deception.
Whenever it is turned back in the inside it is generally so the ball player doesn’t get caught with the ball after seeing that the defence has countered the shift.
All teams do it. We just do it at half pace. With others even if the play breaks down the ball back inside to hard running forward looking to bust a tackle and force a quick play the ball.

To answer your question, not since Jason Taylor but as a coincidence since James Tedesco was in the fullback jersey for us.

Yeah no eyes up, constantly throws that flat/short ball, even when we have an overlap and the boys are screaming For the ball, for years

Was trying to highlight the deception at the ruck base and decoy runner, throwing it back on the inside isn't the problem, we just do it one out, easy meat for the defence..

Just a few more rounds people

And its finally over and the true fun if being a West Tigers supporter is about to begin, the true "proper season" aka the offseason

Arguably the most exciting part of being a tigers supporter since it provides 10x the entertainment than watching the tigers run around like headless chooks week I week out

This upcoming offseason should be especially juicy, with sheens comming into power

Alot of players off contract, Brooks leaving or resigning

Isaiah papalli having cold feet?

Stress free semis and postcards from Bali

Ahh the off season. Where we are all hoping next year will be different. The boys are training hard. Forming solid combinations. Learning from last year’s losses. Avoiding off field trouble. Building belief that the new signings will make all the difference. Next year we’ll be playing finals footy. Honestly, I feel more for the squad than for myself as a fan. They are doing the training and going though the motions oblivious that their efforts could go down the toilet in the first ten rounds. Kind of like the this year. Wondering where it all went wrong. Real fans live in hope 🤣

thank god it's nearly over. been a topsy turvy year. showed some promise after back to back wins and then the floor fell out from under us after Madge was sacked, for better or worse.

last year was worse and we at least have a bit more to look forward to, but we have a lot of work to do in pre-season. really don't know how we'll go next year but we'll definitely score more points under Sheens & Marshall plus Koroisau coming in. hopefully a stack of the youngsters train with the top 30 over the summer and we get to see a few of them in the trials.
