Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

It's what we give and take from this.

Ivan I believe will honour his contract or at least give the team notice. He has brought a lot of friends into the team, men who joined because of him and he won't ditch them.

He also has a good working relationship with a lot of our ex panthers staff.

But blood is thicker then water. He will want the best for his son. Someone in Penrith stirred up trouble for Hook, Ivan being rated the second best coach in the survey's was a result of that trouble. Ivan probably knows Ciraldo well and he won't push him out.

The real issue is our Development, IT's AWFUL. We cannot match the mountains and many other teams in making good players great players. Because of that, we won't see Nathan coming here and we will languish at NR9\. If we get a Center of Excellence and build the league's best development area, we will see Nathan and co coming here. If not, forget it.

Ivan is not sending his son to a place with poor development.

I suspect Nathan will stay at Penrith. I suspect Ivan will stay here for 2 years, then look at his contract and go "i'm staying put".

Yep …. I agree .... he will stay and fulfill his contract obligation and then, as most coaches at the end of their contract life, will do or die subject to his record.
There are no guarantees in life that if you are a good manager you will manage well. It all depends on what luck you have in assembling the right mix of people and get them to stay motivated and perform to maximum of their abilities. .... and luck being with you, of course!

I think that Ivan will fulfill his contract. However, I want some signing announcements, in key positions as discussed many times on this forum. I am hoping for quality signings that will make us a quality team and premiership contenders. Isn't that the whole point of this game. If Ivan cant sign any decent quality players or signings that miraculously perform, then who will want him to remain as our coach anyway. I'm all about culture and a strong team attitude (which Ivan brings), but it all means in the diddly squat in the NRL if you aren't consistently competitive. I personally don't care whether Nathan comes or not. I'm beginning to think it could actially take us back down the path of being a club controlled by a big personality. Ivan wants to coach his son which is great, but it shouldn't be an agenda that we are have cater for if it's not in interest of the overall team.

This pretty much sums it up.

Nothing to see here, move along.

Completely agree however i am sure the tin foil hat brigade wont

Only the Tigers Board would be able to clear this up, if they came out and confirmed/denied that Ivan went to them seeking a release then we would know that Nathan is staying at the panthers and blood is thicker than water or Ivan is not sincere in his statements as he looks to unite with Nathan over there.
In any case Ivan is not a good communicator and appears to be harbouring discontent through his body language and demeanour.
The Board will not disclose for fear of a backlash so we won’t know anything until something happens - essentially maintain face in the face of adversity.
I guess this ‘FANTASY’ of Nathan making his decision as he blows out his birthday candles will bring it all to a head, it will be constant conjecture until then.
Personally I say cut Ivan loose and move on, you can leed a horse to water but can’t make it drink.

So you are basicaly saying Ivan is a liar

Pretty sure it's been widely reported by the club that he had not asked for a release.

what's the reason ivan is being so coy.

Is it something to do with nathan contact NEG or his leaving??

Maybe he's fed up with journos asking the same questions he's answered before…. Looks to me like a man that doesn't suffer fools.
Many on this forum call out the media for what they really are.... and when it suits them, side with them

I reckon that's exactly what it is. He's probably over it and is just treating the media with contempt.

Officially. That doesn't mean he didn't test the waters.

I have said that I am going to trust that Ivan is a man of his word, and I am standing by that - but it is definitely strange that he is playing semantics. All he needs to say is, “look guys, I will be honouring my contract and will be here for the next 2 years at least.” For whatever reason, he has not said that emphatically.

Russell, I didn't hear him say that, though I might have missed it.
All I heard him say was a very deliberate "I have a contract here".

He was squirming in his chair - and he rarely squirms.

This is the problem. he is dancing around it with carefully worded statements.

Gone!

Thing is, he has said that. Almost exactly in those words.

But sensationalist media and people with an IQ below 100 keep harping on and on about the same crap. I'd be impatient and abrupt if I kept having to answer the questions of morons too

Mate I’m choosing to believe he will honour his word but no way he has emphatically said that. Maybe you’re correct and he is sick of the speculation but it’s speculation he has helped continue because of his words.

Also, not sure the sudstandard IQ comment is accurate. Journalists simply dig when they think there’s the possibility of sensation, fans are frustrated and perhaps feeling uncertain.

No he hasnt. Every statement has been carefully worded.

He is saying he will honour his contractual obligations. All he is really saying is that while the Wests Tigers are asking him to fulfill his contract he will.

If thats good enough for you high IQ guys than so be it, just be ready for the I told you so that will be coming🙂

This whole saga needs to be put to bed NOW Ivan if he's fair dinkum needs to commit to an extension of his contract by doing this will show his commitment to Wests Tigers if he doesn't wish to commit we should move on work a payout with Penriff and get a new Coach if this drags on its going to be more seasons of coulda woulda shoulda. What manager is going to advise a player to sign with Wests Tigers with the uncertainty of what's going on at the moment. We need to continually improve our team and this will not happen with all the BS thats going on at the moment .If Ivan wants to go back and be Goulds bi*** dont let the door hit you on the way out Ivan.

I don’t think he deserves an extension. An extension should be given based on performance. He hasn’t done enough to warrant one yet.

I honestly don't get the drama of the guy leaving. He is a key factor in the teams performance this year which although we've gone okay we didn't make the finals. You don't rush to give an extension to a guy who isn't performing.

If Ivan just told these reporters what the misinformation is it would all be over, but he won’t, why

He doesn't have to.
All the differing stories he refers to when asked this answers the question… I don't see why this is so hard to understand

I agree he doesn't have to. Tough part is if he rejects one story he ends up inadvertently validating another. He denies all and tells his story and that will lead to another story. Best just not to comment more than he already has.

Nobody with any sense would commit beyond their contractual period. It lowers your bargaining ability. From a contract point of view the stories work in his favour.

Absolutely. Mbye has been an excellent signing but he hasn’t brought anything else amazing to the team (perhaps except Twal). to warrant his accolades. If he goes he goes, couldn’t care less.

I was a massive Cleary fan when he arrived but not so much anymore. At this stage he’s living on an undeserved reputation.

The media are buzzing around Ivan because there are certain facts they are aware of:
* Ivan was having secret meetings at Penrith
* Griffin was told he was sacked because Ivan will be coach next year- from Griffin himself..
* Buzz claimed that at one of those secret meetings Penrith posed a move for Ivan in the future and he said he wanted to fast track it to next year.
These are a questions that not been answered, that’s why the journos are circling.
Obviously as fans we are not privy to what actually transpired but it looks certain that Ivan is desperate to link up with Nathan asap so one can assume it won’t be here.
Everyone is entitled to their own read on this but until these points are categorically denied the journos will keep pressing so we can’t afford to be naive and assume that everything is sweet smelling.
In any case the tigers board are denying Ivan any such move so if he wants to go he will need to continue the sulking.

He hasn't even gone that far, with "intend" being the limit of his commitment to WT and not a word on any discussion at either club.

Scott Morrison stated words to the same effect recently, but of course, nothing to see there either. People avoid questioning and refer to previous bland non descriptive statements so that they do not get caught lying, simple.
