Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

I wouldn't read too much into Ivan's failure to give any public assurances about his future, outside of the Statement he already made previously.

My take is that he is just being a dad … if he confirms he is definitely staying at the Tigers then the media circus automatically turns back to Nathan, with everyone hounding him about his future plans.

With a finals series about to start, he doesn't need the added pressure, which i'm sure Ivan is willing to cop if it keeps his boy out of the spotlight.

Just my take on it anyway ... time will reveal all.

You may be right, and I havent bagged Ivan as yet, but he left me less than convinced with his 30 second prepared statement, then continually refuse to answer questions about penrith or the wests tigers, but I have said all along, I will wait to the dust settles before going off about anything.

That”s 10 times you’ve told us you haven’t bagged him. We heard you the first time.

Good on you for keeping score, your mum must be so proud

Gee I hope Flanno comes out and confirms his unequivocal, unambiguous, decisive, clear-cut, indisputable, incontrovertible, undeniable, categorial, explicit, specific, unreserved, emphatic and absolute commitment to the Sharks, otherwise we'll have a story on our hands!

In other news - can't stand Flanno as a rugby league personality, with his constant moaning and permanent sneer. He can get lost for all I care, head out towards Penrith and just keep going.

Don't forget about his body language.. Important element in all of this! Not a fan either.

Whether or not you hold that his intentions were honourable, it was meeting with Penrith on the sly that was so un-cool. Come on!

If he cared about the club, the fans and his legacy here, surely he would have tried desperately to endear himself back to the fans - especially in the aftermath of the speculation and now that the season is over. He could easily say that "I will do my damn best to get this club to the finals" or " I love being here" or "please, I am the man for the job here and I am working bloody hard to get this team winning consistently" or (if we was being completely honourable) "I regret that I met with Penrith".

Such a bad look meeting with Penrith, it had consequences.
Who does he think he is that he can just read a statement that says "I intend to honour my contract"?
Where is his empathy? Who responds like that? It was cold-blooded!
No coach/motivator who has true intentions to stay and build a dynasty acts like this to the fans who adored him.

Maybe he just thought, that as all those things ,are what any NRLcoach would do any way , that supporters wouldn’t want a day by day list of how he Planned to run the team,

He was probably giving the supporters credit for being sensible enough to know that “I intend to honour my contract” means “I intend to honour my contract”.

I think that it probably does.

Do we want him to front up ,
while flagelating himself with a cat of nine tails and beg forgiveness from all passers by?.

Or maybe we could impale him on a goalpost , on whatever ground we happen to be calling our home ground at the time, and leave him there until every one of our supporters can file past and get an individual written statement from him , as well as give him a parting kick in the ghoulies.

No ones keeping score, but repetition is very noticeable

Weeks and weeks and weeks ago when I said on here Ryan Matterson will come to the Tigers well the person who told me that said that Shane Flanagan will coach Penrith in 2019 on a 4 year contract the person is right about 65 percent of the time

Your source is close to the mark. There is an opinion Flanagan is hurting their corporate dollars. Dugan, Fifita ASADA salary cap doesn’t help either. They’d be mad to lose Flanno.

Interesting point by Abraham about Cleary just being a dad and protecting Nathan as a reason for not putting the issue to bed in a more decisive way.

Thats all well and good but we didnt hire a Dad we hired a coach. Anything to do with football his loyalty is with us and us alone.

Can't remember where this was mentioned but it was said that Ivan and Pascoe avoided each other at the awards dinner. I asked my old man who attended and he said they were speaking.

How was their body language?

Haha. I asked him if it was frosty and he said it didn't look like they were upset with each other. He (dad) was seated at Pascoe's table.

Lawrence wants to keep going. That was the only thing that really stood out for me.

I wasn't upset to hear that.

Why not. In the best form he’s been in in years. Starting to own our left edge. Off contract at the end of ‘19, Definitely worth extending.
