The bottom line is he can only go to Penrith if WT release him - for once i hope this club shows some bollocks and refuses a request for release should he ask for one. I don't care if we get the wooden spoon for the next 2 years that he is stuck here. His stocks would fall dramatically, Penrith and Gould would like like fools and in the eye of every other supporter of NRL Wests Tigers would be heroes for having the guts to tough it out.

I reckon if he asked for a release he would get one, the same way teams release players that don't want to be here. They can become destabilising, Go and Pascoe's statements can be looked at one of two ways. They can be doing it simply to say to the fans we did what we could but didn't want drama to infiltrate the playing group, or it could be a non story and they are saying it like it is.
I would like to think Ivan is a man of his words and principal but I have a funny feeling Gould will get his way, and we'll be left with the house half built.

Disagree. It sends a message that we can be leaned on and we will crack. Proper clubs when asked to release people important to their success say no and expect the people to act professionally and get on with the job they were hired to do. Our reaction to things like the Kahu and Taupau situations are why someone like Gus thinks we're here for his shopping needs.

Agreed it is about time we played hardball, as a club we have rolled over to many times

So we save face externally, but are stuck with a coach whos heart isnt in it.
Then what?

Due to the abolishing slavery we cannot force him to say here.

I'm assuming cleary would just be opening himself to be sued for damages under breach of contract if he goes to Panthers.

Maybe the silence from Ivan and West’s are because the finer points of his exit are being negotiated, cant be any other reason that us long suffering fans are still in the dark.

Maybe they are working on his contract extension with Tigers and that’s what’s holding it up??

Im resigned to the fact Ivan Cleary has made up his mind and will join Penrith.

My reasoning is that he met up with them 2 weeks ago and was presented with an offer. He reported this to the Wests Tigers. Yesterday Phil Gould sacks Griffin and is on record as saying they decided yesterday that Griffin would not be the coach going forward.

Have a good think about that.

They cant have decided yesterday that Griffin wasnt going to be the coach going forward. Thats a lie. They would not have offered Cleary his deal if they hadnt already made up their mind about Griffin!

Gould has been caught in a lie here.

IMO yesterday wasnt the day that they decided to move on Griffin, yesterday was the day Ivan Cleary gave them their answer.

My point exactly - i don't care if the club runs last for the next 2 years with IC as coach - i could live with that because it would show the club won't roll over and take it. If he asks for a release and they give in then everything that the club has tried to do for the last 18 months means nothing.

You think we are going to be in a much better position without him? Warriors were not when they let him go.

What's the difference if panthers finished off the season with griffen?

If thats the case then Pascoe and Go are also lying when they say they won't release him - lots of lies going down.

I think your idea of slavery differs from mine. He's signed a contract - it's pretty standard in the NRL. Expecting someone to fulfill one isn't slavery.

The silence? You mean apart from Pascoe and Go saying he won't be released?

Worries me that both of them said that we wouldnt grant a release.

Neither of them said Ivan wouldnt (or hasnt) asked for a release.

I just mean it he wanted to walk he could we would just have to sue him.

You expect him to get over it and do his job. Players get turned down for releases regularly and only your Mitchell Moses types don't react professionally. I just think if we roll here we just forget about keeping anyone half decent. First sign of pressure from a big club we will release them. It's about the image we project. I doubt other clubs bother to ask Melbourne or Brisbane to release first graders.

There gets to a point where it becomes apparent the media are pushing this hard to see if they can exert influence on this matter.

I watched Gould on 10 and he looked bankrupt in terms of ideas. WTs should see out this assault by media and then go hard for Narthan Cleary. turn the tables on the Panthers.

No im sure they are genuine.

They dont have to release him.

Doesnt mean that Ivan hasnt agreed to join the Panthers. Its just how he gets out of the contract that Gould, Pascoe, Go etc are playing out now.
