If it's true, you've got to wonder about a team that is prepared to tread water for 2+ years with a caretaker coach while they wait for a bloke whose main appeal seems to be he's related to their halfback. If we were advocating this we'd be despairing about how dumb our board is.

Anyway if this is how it plays out I'd say keep IC and get a football manager to handle recruitment.

Isn't that Kelly Egan's job?

Cleary seems to run that side. At least at the NRL level. I think we'd need someone with more gravitas than Egan. But you could hardly have Ivan making longterm decisions in 2020 if he's signed with another team. I don't care if he's coaching us though.

What was painfully obvious that none of them give two hoots about what becomes of our club or who coaches us after the events of the last few days.

There is no way the club should extend Cleary. I’ve been a fan but was willing to give him leeway in his first year. We most likely don’t play finals this year. What if we don’t make finals next year and we now have him for 4 years. He has shown himself to have little integrity and if the club wasn’t playing hardball he would have walked out on us on Monday. So do we really want someone like that coaching our team? I know I don’t. Only here because his lawyer told him he has to be. Get as much compensation out of the panthers and move on. Ivan is now on his own bus heading up the m4 and good riddance.

I just can’t picture this happening. And it shouldn’t.
Where is the value? Just plain crazy.
Either he demonstrates his long term commitment to WT by extending his contract or he goes to Penrith next year. Anything in between just doesn’t make sense.

Nailed it!
I am a Ivan Cleary fan, good coach, genuine at face value.
But if he is pulling strings to go elsewhere than make him and Penrith pay the freight.
Extract as much compensation as possible.
Go after someone that’s got a history with the Tigers, Todd Payten, Wayne Pearce or someone that’s not using us as a stepping stone to bugger off when opportunity comes knocking.
It’s really sucks to follow a sport where a battling team whose finally showing signs of change can have their head figure poached without any support from the governing body to address the details of a contract and the repercussions if they are not adhered to.
I feel the game is falling into the hands of the power clubs.

On Nathan’s 21st, early November both Clearys announce they sign and extend to the WT.....that would see the end of Gould

I don't have the figures in my pocket but I doubt very much that a coaching change would predict a positive run into a finals series.

Firstly it's something like 5/16 wins for first-game coaches, one of which is actually Ivan Cleary with us. But most coaches take over struggling sides, not Top-4 sides, so most teams I expect do not end up having a dramatic winning run within that first changeover season.
