Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

This whole saga needs to be put to bed NOW Ivan if he's fair dinkum needs to commit to an extension of his contract by doing this will show his commitment to Wests Tigers if he doesn't wish to commit we should move on work a payout with Penriff and get a new Coach if this drags on its going to be more seasons of coulda woulda shoulda. What manager is going to advise a player to sign with Wests Tigers with the uncertainty of what's going on at the moment. We need to continually improve our team and this will not happen with all the BS thats going on at the moment .If Ivan wants to go back and be Goulds bi*** dont let the door hit you on the way out Ivan.

I don’t think he deserves an extension. An extension should be given based on performance. He hasn’t done enough to warrant one yet.

Journos are asking the wrong questions. Do not ask him directly because you know what answer you will get. You ask him if he intends on making a play for his son come November. Its not rocket science.

He said again - about twelve hours ago, he is staying for the length of his contract.

How many times does he have to say it?

This means "he is here next year" and "he is here the year after"

He doesn't need to commit after that at this stage and we don't need to extend his contract at this stage.

What is the problem.

Are Souffs carrying on that their coach maybe going to the Donkeys in 2020?
Are they having trouble signing anyone?

This is all a lot of hot air for nothing!

This pretty much sums it up.

Nothing to see here, move along.

Russell, I didn't hear him say that, though I might have missed it.
All I heard him say was a very deliberate "I have a contract here".

He was squirming in his chair - and he rarely squirms.

They then asked him if he wished to clear the air. He basically said no.

No mention of "I will put my heart and soul into this for the next 2 years" no mention of "I am fully committed to getting this club to the finals next year".
Nothing.
Absolutely no giving the fans any reassurance of his tenure.
Or any reason to be optimistic.
After a finish to the year like that Ivan should have done MUCH better in that interview.
I get that we lost the game, but he was completely disheartening!!!
__

I think we all wanted Ivan to be the Don of our successful dynasty.
So even if he did say "he will see out his contract" it would have once again sounded scripted, unenthusiastic and clearly only as a means to an end.

He has made him intentions clear. You hardly have to read between the lines.
Man were we delusional!
What a shame!
We as fans need at least some empathy from our coach THAT WE LOVED

**From the Tigers site:**
Ivan Cleary makes his future clear - again
Author Margie McDonald Senior Reporter Timestamp Fri 31 Aug 2018, 12:06 AM

For possibly the last time in 2018, Wests Tigers coach Ivan Cleary says he's not going anywhere and intends coaching his team again next year.

The Tigers had a disappointing end to their club season with a 51-10 loss to a rampaging South Sydney Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium on Thursday night.

That kind of scoreline might lead anyone to ponder their future in the Telstra Premiership but Cleary was clear in his stance was asked post-match if he still intends to be at Concord Oval next year.

"**I have a contract here and I've said all that I've needed to say," Cleary said.**
"I get [that] people want to discuss it. I get that there's an agenda about various things outside the game," he said, referring to the quick movements of coaches in the latter stages of 2018 – Anthony Griffin is gone from the Penrith Panthers, Trent Barrett has resigned from Manly, and the fluctuations around Wayne Bennett's tenure at the Brisbane Broncos are ongoing.

Cleary was linked to the Panthers because his son Nathan is contracted there until the end of next season. That also means the 20-year-old can talk to other clubs from November 1 this year.

**"I think I've made my position clear," Cleary said.**

He was asked again if he wanted to clear up any of what he claimed was "misinformation" about his coaching intentions and the future career of his son, now that the Tigers season was over.

"No I don't because there's been so many different stories written, so obviously there's been misinformation," he said.

"I'm pretty clear I was disappointed and why wouldn't you be? As I said, I made my peace on that."

He doesn't know if it will re-surface again once Nathan Cleary can open discussions with another clubs. Ivan is contracted to the Tigers until the end of 2020 and the pair want to be at the same club at some time in their futures.

"I don't know. That's speculation and I can't deal in that. I just deal with what I've got in front of me and that's what I do," Cleary said.

Right now he has a team which finished 14th last year but rose to ninth this season. But he admits there is a way to go although defensively the Tigers in 2018 were far superior than previous seasons.

"We started the year to build a foundation for the future and at first we got some good, hard wins over fancied teams," Cleary said. "… but we became scrappers throughout the year. Defensively I thought we made some real strides in that area. We got 12 wins – the most since 2011 – but obviously we're not there yet," he said.

However, the football lesson Souths handed out showed the Tigers why they finished a couple of wins short of the finals.

"We made 200 more tackles and to their credit, they were ruthless tonight. They played really well and looked like a team on a mission," Cleary said.

"I felt we started the game with plenty of intent, but in the end, you could see who was marching on and who wasn't."

I still don't get that people think he is not going to honour his contract.

I am not convinced by somebody who has to read a statement to communicate his commitment!

His words dont = his body language

Only the Tigers Board would be able to clear this up, if they came out and confirmed/denied that Ivan went to them seeking a release then we would know that Nathan is staying at the panthers and blood is thicker than water or Ivan is not sincere in his statements as he looks to unite with Nathan over there.
In any case Ivan is not a good communicator and appears to be harbouring discontent through his body language and demeanour.
The Board will not disclose for fear of a backlash so we won’t know anything until something happens - essentially maintain face in the face of adversity.
I guess this ‘FANTASY’ of Nathan making his decision as he blows out his birthday candles will bring it all to a head, it will be constant conjecture until then.
Personally I say cut Ivan loose and move on, you can leed a horse to water but can’t make it drink.

So you are basicaly saying Ivan is a liar

If Ivan just told these reporters what the misinformation is it would all be over, but he won’t, why

Russell,
Precisely where does Ivan clarify his position re next year, or provide any reason for optimism? If anything, he was totally evasive, dismissive and was very uncomfortable. Very political and IMO very disappointing.

I'm not trying to be contentious but I honestly can't see how this article does anything to support your opinion.

He doesn't have to.
All the differing stories he refers to when asked this answers the question… I don't see why this is so hard to understand

He is saying he is going to honour his contract.

I believe him because he is an honourable man - you think he is telling untruths.

Lets leave it at that Bigsiro. The only way to convince you is when he sees out his next two years.r

what's the reason ivan is being so coy.

Is it something to do with nathan contact NEG or his leaving??

Maybe he's fed up with journos asking the same questions he's answered before…. Looks to me like a man that doesn't suffer fools.
Many on this forum call out the media for what they really are.... and when it suits them, side with them
