If you haven’t made your debut by 25, you aren’t that good.

He only got noticed when the PNG Hunters came in to the Intrust Cup - In 2 seasons he was outsatnding. He never really got a chance at Souths with the backline they have. I could never really understand why they contracted him. Check out some of these highlights from Intrust Cup in 2018 and 2019.

He looks great.
Big, strong, fast, great dummy and has good footy smarts. Very exciting.

Ps. How good was that PNG crowd at the end?!

PNG crowds are the best

It never ceases to amaze me how Indigenous players want to go to Souffs to "play with their mates."
I find this especially amazing when you look at the appalling way Souffs treat them when it comes to contracts.
Just looking at the way over the years that they have tried to off load or shop around players like Dane Gagai, Alex Johnstone and now Jimmy the Jet. In the past there were players like Nathan Merritt that were very loyal servants who were also treated with very little respect when they were no longer wanted. Really, why would you want to play for the scum and just looking around at some of their toothless supporters it's painfully obvious that at least the chooks have got a decent dentist.

Is it any different to players who want to play for a 'winning team'? Like any 'top' club, they serve their pupose and then are moved on. We're just the same but worse at it.

Question is... why didn't Bennett use him / let him go?

Souths have a pretty stacked backline.

Very true, but he would have been on minimum wage and on potential alone "compared to Allan" would be worth hanging onto for a season or two. I just feel this diamond has a few rough edges, he is worth the risk though.

Would expect so. Would probably not had any decent coaching until playing qrl

Is it likely that he is coming here though? I thought he went home to PNG? I'd be happy if we did get him.

Ha! Olam debuted for storm at 24/25 and he's pretty good I think!!!

The path from PNG isn't a straight as it is for Aussie kids

Exactly. PNG people are good souls and live for their rugby league.

Many don't understand the awesome beauty, danger and remoteness of PNG.

The Kumuls coach on the Chasing Kangaroos podcast said that PNG players don't get professional coaching at juniors and just want to run hard at the opposition.

He said that when Olam arrived at Storm he was told that he had to forget everythibg he did and relearn all his footy skills. Plus learning a new language, it's a huge effort to make it to where he is.

If you ever get a chance, listen to Justin Olam on Sandor Earl's podcast, he talked about what it was like growing up on his village. The jobs he had to do as a 5 year old then walk across a mountain to school and back - it's incredible......

I've just brought this to the top of the thread. This is a really informative and you will understand the PNG players' situation. Gebbie is a very good player, as is Olam.

I would think he went back to PNG when he wasn't getting a go at Souths and there was no reggies. Bit pointless staying in Sydney in a bubble when he could return home to family.

Marcus Bai, Alex Johnston, Dane Gagai, all have lightning reflexes and turn of foot.

Can JAC actually sign for 2022 with us yet? I think it's only after Nov 1st. Melbourne would have to agree to it.

And I don't think he would have signed for 2021 as melb were still after a player.

So I doubt he's signed. Sounds like we're trying to play hardball and wait till Nov 1st, sign him for 22 and force Melbournes hand for 2021.

And he could play footy back in PNG. From what I remember he decided to leave to play back home and hope to impress for another NRL contract

Yes for him to say this means he must have something sorted or agreed to and Storm are releasing him. Otherwise Storm would not be too happy with him stating this.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but.

If JAC is like his friend and good mate Dogshot Mitchell, then JAC has got no problems with Mitchell's playing us like chumps last year, and JAC would then have no trouble in playing us like chumps now.

But maybe JAC is the better man. Maybe he saw the way his friend acted, and knowing about Mitchell's advisors and family and responsibilities, he thought Mitchell did the best he could. And now JAC himself will show him how to stand up and treat people with respect.

Or maybe JAC knows his window of opportunity in this game is limited, and he knows now is the moment he is at his best and this is his best opportunity to set himself up for his whole life.

I hope we joins us and becomes an even better player.

The thing is our perception of the truth is filtered by media crap. Mitchell didn’t play us at all. We approached him, had a conversation, realised it was a non event and we moved on as did Mitchell. That’s what happened. I don’t know much but I know that to be true. Everything else was garbage written by media fools. I didn’t know this at the tome and was beside myself with stress!
The lesson learned was that we cannot take ANY comfort or angst from what the media spin. It’s all crap.
Maybe JAC will sign, maybe he won’t, maybe it’s already done. I don’t know.
What I’m becoming more confident in is that we are conducting ourselves professionally in attempting to recruit good players. It’s hard because our infield performances have been poor for years. Chicken and egg!
Personally I’m not confident we’ll get JAC but like nearly all of us (despite what some egos would have you believe) I really have no idea

I used to like Freddie and his attitude, but now, Yes he is becoming Gould 2 and full of himself.

All ex players on Channel 9 have massive egos and Fittler is now one of them and Gallen is a so called expert. Maybe at performance enhancing peptides

All Quiet on the Wests Tigers Front ...no doubt we will all end up standing in new man's land with 100 barbed wire lines and 300 machine gun placements to breach and a piece of soggy bog roll as our weapon
