Jack Bird

This young man has been very impressive , a real match winner since he made his NRL debut, three weeks ago. A real talent for the Sharks. He's killing it as a five- eighth and that's not even his real position. I think he played mostly as a centre.
He's only 20 years old just like Mosses. But there seems to be a real hunger in his game. I love the way he takes on the line consistently and is not afraid to have a go.
He suffers from Rheumatoid Arthritis, and needs to take medication for it, to stop his joints from aching and stiffening up. Poor kid.
I like Mosses, i think he too is a special player, but just out of curiosity, i like to ask your opinion of how you think he compares with Bird.
Two very different type of players , but both equally good ?
What's your opinion?

At this stage, Bird is miles ahead of Moses.

If Moses reaches his potential, I think he will be one of the best 5/8s in the comp in 2-3 years.

Jack Bird is able to play a more physical game because of his size. Moses will need more time before he can break tackles with strength.

Let's hope he does reach his potential Tony. Can't wait to see him in full flight!

Depends what you are measuring him against….Moses has played more NRL games than Bird...so that puts him ahead.....

Bird seems to be more of a Foran kind of player, he's strong and likes to take on the line, while Mosses is more like Benji or a Johnson kind of player. Able to do more fancy stuff. Create a lot of try assists with his passing game etc.
That's the way i see it anyway.

Bird has looked good, but teams haven't had a chance to figure him yer.

Moses, idk. He showed a lot of promise i thought last yr, this yr he's showed very little. He and Sirro have swapped places to me this yr. Wouldn't surprise me if Moses turns out to be another Matt Groat. potential amounting to very little that is. Maybe he won't either, but i'm willing to bet a couple of these juniors that everyone is getting excited about will. Again, its why we actually need to sign a couple established players from outside the club.

Haven't yet seen the passing game or the kicking game to compare. Excellent running game but that usually only works against tired forwards or teams with poor defense.

Reminds me a little of Austin and Reynolds.

Moses is building up more towards a complete player. Hell do good for sure.

Two pints I've noticed with Moses so far, after watching every game 3 times on replay:

1 - His defence has improved a lot. He had made some really good tackles on the line on much bigger blokes and is not afraid to put his body on the line. He has improved in this area way more than I expected at this stage.

2 - He is not taking the ball to the line and engaging the defence before he passes. He is passing the ball way before the line, which is making it easy for the defence to mark up and make decisions. He needs to straighten up the attack rather than passing as after a couple of steps. I dont know why he is doing this. Could be a confidence issues but he doesnt seem to lack confidence in other areas. Throw in a few errors here and there and it hasnt been a good start for him this year, but he has the talent to come good with some minor changes. Passing so far before the line is an obvious one that you would think should have been addressed by now.

Good point Tbone. I want to see a lot more in attack from Mosses. He can make things happen… If only he would.

Dragons must be feeling the same way some on here feell about Koro…...duh

Agreed Tony, I've seen bits and peices of him in the lower grades and he has been good, but I still rate Mitch a cut above. You need to remember Mitchell is sharing the play making responsibilities with Farah, Brooksy and Tedesco. Compare that with the sharks spine. My point being the spotlight so to speak has been diffused between 4 players. We are very fortunate to have such young talent. Exciting times guys.

I think it is more like comparing - in horse racing, a sprinter with a stayer.

Bird is the sprinter - I think tig_prmz is on the money comparing him with Austin to a point, he then, if good enough, will develop into a Forum type half. He is more robust at the moment than Moses and the coaches have yet to work him out in their game plan. We will then see how good he is.

On the other hand, Moses I think is a stayer and could develop more into a Thurston type of player. He is a slower developer - physically, which has slowed his development a tad; especially with giant forwards running at him all game. However I think his short and long passing game will come to the fore when JT lets him loose. He has it - remember Keith Lulia scoring 4 tries at Leichhardt. Finesse will be his main attribute, the ability to read the play ahead of most players and then put others through gaps. In simple terms he will have try assists running out of his a…

I wouldn't be worried about comparing him to anyone else - he will be his own man - it's just a matter of time and patience. I have not (apart from Johns) seen a prospect as good as this kid in 65 years of following League.

As for mentioning Groat - that is the ultimate insult.

I haven't seen a whole lot of Bird. But I think they are playing quite differently.

Bird is much bigger and seems to like the physical aspect of the contest, very willing to take the line on and use his power to test small chinks in the defence. He likes to be involved. I've been expecting him to have a bit of an off game because of his young age and tipped against the Sharks based on that last weekend - and he certainly made a fool of me!

I see Moses as more of a finesse player and we did see a glimpse of his excellent passing game last weekend, like the cut-out passes he used to hit Koirobete with on a regular basis. He's not having dud games but sometimes he just does not feature in the game for long periods.

I'd like to see Moses with Bird's size, it would definitely give him more confidence against the big boys.

Right now Bird is showing Moses up, but I have a feeling there is more to Moses' game to come yet.

I hope so!

Moses is your modern fullback type 5/8.

Bird is your old style lock type 5/8.

Every now and then a kid comes into grade who just has "it." Jack Bird is one of those guys. Cronulla need to hold onto this guy, moreso than they need to hold on to Lewis and Gallen. He is a guy they can build their team around long term.
