There's only 2 players that I have disliked while they wear the jersey, anasta, and tamou. Brooks used to be my favourite player about 5 years ago. He has not improved. He could maybe improve with a change of scenery, but......
My biggest reason for wanting him gone is that this year is supposed to be a nothing year, according to Madge/Sheens. Why do we persist with Brooks then?
**Give the keys to Hastings and move on.**

Hastings will play 6

For starters

He is going to get a big opportunity though. We are going to have more options in the halves at the end of this season. I can see Brooks and Hastings fighting it out for a first grade spot when Doueihi comes back.

Goal posts being moved I see.

Think he'll move to 7 when AD gets back.
Brooks to bench

We certainly do not have any minders, so as far as defense goes, Brooks generally gets a pretty high pass mark.

Having said that, I have to say that I was very disappointed with him in that last game against the Dogs, but he wasn't the only one that put in a disgusting effort.

Brooks… according to the stats is one of the worst defenders in the NRL.
One or two tackles a year of the odd bigger guy doesn’t make him a tackling machine.

I can see Brooks being dropped completely by end of season. We have 3 guys who want to be NRL halves fighting it out for 2 spots.

Brooks is a much better defender than Hastings, I'm concerned how Hastings will go defending in the NRL
Attacking wise I think Hastings will be good for us

That's what I'm concerned about.
I think Hastings will be our permanent 5/8 and not AD. AD will stay at centre IMO. Backline defense really starts with the 5/8, any misreads from him and it will be disastrous.
He's solid enough. 🤞

What most of the posters on here digging up Hastings past, forget that the guy really knew and admitted immaturity...I admire him for being man enough to face up to his shortcomings and can only see he will be good for us,if only to make the squad play better and lead by example....
an old saying comes to mind....

"HE WHO HAS NOT SINNED CAST THE FIRST STONE.."

I understand what you have written TT and understand the impact immaturity can have on a player. Those putting the boot into Brooks should also understand that while Hastings was dealing with immaturity, Brooks (nearly similar age) was in the NRL consistently. This is a very important difference between the two of them.

You also have to remember Paws,Hastings went to ESL and not only improved his game and attitude,he improved the teams and clubs he played for....
Brooks always had an abundance of talent, but a very humble and timid demenour,I often blasted him for not taking control of the team, I got angry and called for his dropping at times also...and that from me was emotions taking over...I dont want to see Luke ridiculed only because there were many factors that contributed to his meek performances,in particular an overuling club icon beside him,a very sluggish young forward pack still learning and lots of injuries which caused swapping and changing around him..
I did say earlier this preseason,if stability is found within the week to week performances, consistency will show and more wins will come....this will only happen if the team isnt chopped and changed every week, injuries will play some part...
If Hastings can get Luke to voice his orders around more dominently then Luke could very well show us why he is a Dally M winner...lets hope so for all the team to respond to the challenges ahead this season...cheers.mate...

Yeah, Ive seen stats like that as well but they don't always tell the full story.

I think Brooks is generally forced into doing more than his fair share in defense because he hasn't got a real lot of help out there which results in less than flattering stats due to his increased work load in that area of the game.

His missed tackle count is probably right up there but at the same time he is probably making more tackle attempts than most other half backs as well.

One of our second rowers needs his own minder half the time.

half the time?

i had a quick look ...couldn't find a couple going to new teams.
Chose guys with a bit of experience rather than kids in their first year.

Brooks 456 @ 85.7%
DCE 536 @ 91.6%
Cleary 370 @ 87.7% (missed some games)
Moses 290 @ 85.3%
Jahrome Hughes 451 @ 89.5%

Proves Brooks can't depend on defence to keep him in the team ... all these other blokes offer so much more.

Thanks for chasing up those figures, but they do show that Brooks' tackle count is pretty high for a half back and the 4 half backs that you have chosen as a comparison were all from teams that finished in the top 6 last season with defensive records far superior to ours.

Correct me if I am wrong but my original post was in reply to a comment made by Ink suggesting that most half backs have a minder in defense which is something I do not believe that Luke Brooks has ever had the luxury of having at the Wests Tigers.

Let's be perfectly honest, Wests Tigers defense is complete crap compared to the top 6 teams and once you take all of that into account I think Brooksy's defensive efforts in a team that totally sucks defensively is actually pretty good.

Now as far as how Jackson Hastings' defense shapes up in the NRL that still remains to be seen.

And from teams with class centres and second rowers - reckon those halfbacks listed have a much easier time of it than Brooks...
That doesn't matter though.... Because, you know... someone found some stats.

That basically sums up the points that I was trying to get across.

I wish Brooks would actually go to a team with the best centres and back rowers … just to prove to everyone he would still be a gormless liability 🤣

Hahaha, I suppose you want Laurie to join him, also being a recipient of the player award?
Brooks is one of the team’s top 3 players.
It may seem obvious to many, but still worth mentioning, that we have proven over the last decade, continually getting rid of our best players doesn’t improve team performance.
