Jackson Hastings #251

Any updates on Hastings extending?
I thought @THE_POM said we were talking to him and manager like 2 weeks ago and just hope he is not waiting until Nov 1 like every other good player we have..

The long term plan with Hastings is an interesting one. I'm a massive fan of what he did at 13. Very impressed with his ability to do all the effort plays along with the ball playing, however when you look at who is coming through, 2 of our best prospects are ball playing locks in Faa'gutu and Matamua.

Makes you think, do we stick with Hastings at 7 and bring through those kids, or do we risk a log jam at 13 and possibly lose a good youngster?

It's a tough call.

When Hastings did things at speed he was good at 7, it was only when he tried to slow things up that oppositions worked him out. Maybe the Easter Monday combo of Hastings 7 and Brooks 6 is the go and throw a Josh Curran at lock to ease those two kids in.

I can't decide.

Depending on whether they extend Brooks - keep Hastings at 13 next year to give Faa' and Mat' another year to mature, and then move him to 7 after Brooks' contract expires. That would be my plan, but then if they are intending to extend Brooks' contract, that idea goes out the window - unless it's Brooks to 6 and AD somewhere else. It's a bit of a jigsaw.

When will we finally at least try to build a stronger team?
We are obsessed with our Messiah - silver bullet solution, with no analysis of our history and identifying our weak and strong points (SWAT)!
This forum reflects the club's administration confusion "just do it" BS, translation do whatever, but it must look like we do something!
Nothing comes without the hard work, but we prefer fairy tales and unicorns!

I view the situation as follows:-

1. Our halves haven't been anywhere near good enough. Brooks to me has been better than Doueihi but Doueihi has more upside. Brooks is a more complete player than AD in that his overall game is a lot better - passing, defense and general kicking. AD is more versatile in that you could play him in lots of positions.
2. Hastings is our best half even if you play him at 13. He is also the only player out of Brooks, AD and himself who has footy smarts and he is more likely to take the right option at critical times.
3. We aren't going to be able to recruit superstars so we are going to need juniors coming through who are stars.

I think we have to be willing to offer Faa'gutu and Matamua first grade positions if they are good enough.

If one of these guys comes on and proves themself I'd give them the lock position and the other guys get moved where it suits us. We can't guarantee under performing players key roles in our team. Hastings would get the 7 spot and AD and Brooks fight it out for the 6 spot or AD gets moved elsewhere (centres or fullback).

We also appear to be in contract negotiations with Hastings, AD and Brooks. These guys may make the decisions for us in that if one of more of them leave the other guys get the halves spot.

I would not hold back our juniors for players who are so far away from top tier player level it's not funny.

we are a centre short douhie could play centre if he wanted to and you could go with 7. Hastings 6. Brooks
Kev Naiqama is a winger that plays fullback or 6 for Fiji.

Adam Douihei is a winger that plays fullback or 6 for Lebanon.

I think he'd be a better winger than centre.
Nice height, athletic build, good skills from playing some 1 and 6 - vertical leap and could be a tidy finisher...

He'd be as fast as Kenny I'd say and could really be something special out there.

Hold back the Juniors?
Have you seen the Junior or Reserve grade Halves?
There's no one to hold back....

The last Halves we had coming through that generated any interest at all were Brooks and Moses.
Outside that - We had Madden for a bit.... And he wasn't ours.

Interesting thought mate....
I don't think there's enough Glory on the Wing for your boy!!

Although, It would help with his defensive issues....
Not as much traffic out there

Waste of a jersey on the wing
With his 20 meter cut out passes,
Power runs from set plays and
Kicking game he can improve on.

Sheens has always preferred a faster, smaller pack and big, strong backs.

6. Douehi, 7. Brooks 13. Hastings and a young centre gives us speed but 4. Douehi 6. Brooks 7. Hastings gives us a slower half and backline.
