Jacob Liddle #198

It was a disappointing game from him today, but he wasn't on his own.
Today showed how far off the pace we still are compared to the top 4 or 5 teams.

Simpkin deserves a crack but Mmbye has played ok so not sure what to do

One match so far. Shouldn't be deathriding Middle ( again).

He didn't pass off the ground once I reckon. Very very slow service, it's a worry he can't do that simple yet integral part of the game

The question should be why he wasn't passing off the ground as that is his natural style and has always been his forte. Something changed.

I haven't hooked back up to Kayo as yet so can't check, but what I saw was Ricky Stuart having picked up on the style we had Liddle playing and attacking it from marker from the get go. That said, he was still going alright before we had no ball to start the second half.

Totally agree. Can't understand why he wasn't passing off the ground. Not doing him justice if this was an instruction and he certainly doesn't need to give many on this forum more reason to deathride him

Too early for 80 for him.

Not his best game for us, but still have every faith he will come good.

I'm a fan, but it's too funny that people were comparing Lids with Grant. Daylight. But if he can consistently deliver the flashes of good stuff we've seen, he'll be a very good hooker for us.

Definitely should be sharing the role at the moment, whether it's with Mbye or Simpkin (preferable, but happy to give him time in ressies).

Well, if it's not Simpkin... Mbye at 14. Who else?

Hope Simpkin can fill the shoes and make it in the NRL...Jacob will have to become a very solid 80 min player to even be considered as an NRL week to week hooker/dh...

He's played nearly 50 NRL games. How long are we going to wait for him while we have Simpkin in reserves.

Dont know mate, but Hartigan and Madge have to weigh up the options...buy some one new or upgrade Simpkin...I dont know,Im not in the position to know whats needed....

We run with a Liddle and Simpkin combination this year until one stands out and can play the 80
Release one at the end of the year
Sign Smith at all costs and he goes straight to Hooker
I don't see liddle excelling
I think our best chance will be Simpkin
But he may not work out either

This game was a reality check for our guys
There is more work to be done

Mbye at 9.

Liddle hasn’t got it. Simpkin in 14. Slowly increase his game time - he won’t be able to go straight to 80mins.

Simpkin needs to come in, he will be our long term 9, we persist with these so called future stars for way too long, we never learn

Not his best game today but I blame the coach for the decision to play a bloke coming back from long term injury to play 80min without a back up hooker on the bench.
Liddle's running game was non-existent as he tried to reserve his energy levels and his running game is a strong part of his game.
Hopefully next week, we see Mbye on the bench at 14 covering that role which he would be perfect for.
Simpkin can just ply his trade in reggies a bit longer. Kid has not played for nearly a season because of covid. No need to put pressure on him. He can build nicely in reggies for a few weeks to get game time.

The player we should have got is Joey Lussick who is at Parra but played at Salford for the past couple of years and was outstanding. He would have been a very good back up but we are stuck Docker-Clay who is terrible as back up half/hooker.

Simpkin is top 30

Well throw him in next week....Madge will know whats needed...

Liddle had a good first half - his second half was not so good, just like most of the team. Players were overrunning the PTB, which slowed it down.

TT - I don't believe you have joined the boys who give a player one game (first of the season) and want to drop him for a guy who has not played one game of NRL.

Must say I am disappointed in your thoughts on this.

Madge has to bring in Simpkin off the bench Liddle made 50 tackles service was abysmal. It was terrible even after 1 tackle though. Slower than Farah was at the end of his career.

Crap - no one is slower than that, unless they are dead.

Why do you want to end up with the wooden spoon?

Wake up Russell.
He had a bad game.... it happens.

I think it was a big ask for Liddle to play 80 in the middle against arguably the biggest pack in the comp. Defensively he held his own, but ran out of puff in attack.

I think he was let down by the halves. The side never looked organised or cohesive in attack, but I don't think it's fair to lay the blame for that solely at Liddle's feet.

I think Talau was an odd selection on the bench. I can't figure out the plan to use him other than injury cover.

Simpkin would have added a little more balance to the bench. But next week I'd imagine Mbye will share the hooking role with Liddle when Doueihei returns.

Russ,Im not wanting to throw Jacob out after one game...What Im saying is the ones screaming for Simpkin to play instead then "throw him in next week"..Madge will know what to do,and if Jacob does go ,there should be some that go with him, however Madge doesnt take punters advice on who to select, give these guys at least half a dozen games to gel and settle...all will be good....
