Jahream Bula #269

Also the improved backs.

Olam, Turuva, Luai and maybe even Skelton can beat a man one on one. So defenses will need to honour them, leaving more space for the fullback to chime in. He was heavily marked this year as our attacking threat was pretty minimal.
Improved? I believe and maybe U2 Luai, and Turuva are proven.

With all the talk about Luai’s get out clauses it appears Bula has something similar. And now that his agent has been employed by Bulldogs he may join the Moses stable.
Does Moses see Richo and Benji as competitors or customers?
We’re already getting some grief from Bateman and niggle from Galvin. Now Bula will want an upgrade?

it’s a cunning move by Moses. he’s going to try and take us to the cleaners.

Well, we should start to prepare Bula's replacement. Either a fair deal for both club and player or he is shown the door and WT make it known to Bula now that you engage with Moses we will not be blackmailed.

My theory is that the 'leaks' this past week & even recently re Klemmer's MO has been via the Moses camp (even re Luai). He's trying to control the media narrative & gain an upper hand over the Wests Tigers ahead of some club extension talks involving his marquee clients (i.e. Galvin).

He can now get in Galvin & parents ear about Luai having 'out' clauses so they can demand the same from WT & with Bula now reportedly in his camp, it gives him a strong bargaining hand.

FYI other plays in the Moses/Cove camp are Klemmer, Bateman, Faagutu (gone), Tumeth, Sukkar & Cayne Nicholas (no one seems to know where he has landed for '25).

I'd expect more media stories to come out if Klemmer gets dropped next season that it's a strategy by Benji not to activate Klemmer's option for '26.

Also I notice when Moses' clients are in the news, burner accounts appear on X/Twitter advocating for the client (it happened when the Galvin situation occurred mid-season & those burners have subsequently gone quiet).

Its click bait again. 2-3yrs down the track.

It has zero relevance in next 2 seasons.

If we think about it if Luai and Bula left around the timelines the media mention - we would have a minimum of $2.1m+ to spend (plus cap increases) to grab some awesome talent.

if the contract clause for Bula is true “if they don’t offer 900k then he can look elsewhere” is a good clause for the club this time. It means he will be worth that if he is offered it so something he has 2 years to work on or there will be a better option. It gives the player a goal to achieve what Tommy T is doing.

I'm sure Richo will be keeping an eye on the Storm situation with Papz & Sua Faalogo too as a possible contingency at that time. But a lot of water to go under the bridge & Bula may justify that value in spades.

He’s bullish about our spine as we all know, I think he’s happy with Bula.

Funny you mention that, Turuva is shown on our web site as a full back.

No mention of centre or wing, but then I believe that the club sites are managed by the NRL who are far from infallible.

Tiger opens up on legend father-in-law... and YouTube crash course that revealed ‘scary’ side

Tigers fullback Jahream Bula has opened up on getting married to NRL and boxing legend Solomon Haumono’s daughter in the off-season, his shoulder injury and the new look Tigers spine.

Bula married partner Aaliyah, the daughter of Haumono with photos showing the happy couple on the steps of the Sydney Opera House.

Haumono played 111 NRL games for the Sea Eagles, Bulldogs, Dragons and Tigers and eight Test matches, before moving on to a boxing career after a stint in the Super League.

While a scary man on the rugby league field and in the ring, Bula revealed the softer side of his now father-in-law.

“He is a scary figure on the field, but off the field he’s one of the most gentle blokes,” Bula said.

“Me and him get along well, so it wasn’t too hard.”

After a long career in two professional sports, Haumono has kept his advice to Bula on being a rugby league player simple.

“I guess just put God first before everything because footy is a rollercoaster,” Bula said.

“It’s up and down, but staying with God you stay the same all the time.”

At 22, Bula is still at the start of his NRL journey after scoring 15 tries in 39 games since his debut for the Tigers in 2023.

He admits he hasn’t got it all figured out yet and doesn’t mind asking Haumono for a few words of wisdom.

“Yeah, for sure, he’s been through it all, not just in footy, but boxing as well, so he knows what it’s like,” Bula said.

“So it’s good to get some advice from him.”

Haumono retired from rugby league in 2006, before a boxing career that spanned the next decade.

Bula was only four years of age when Haumono last played in the NRL, but he revealed he has seen footage of his father-in-law’s playing days.

“I’ve seen a few of his highlights, I just search it on YouTube,” Bula said.

“He’s tough and scary.”

So has Bula stepped in the ring for a sparring session with his famous father-in-law.

“Nah, but I want to do some boxing with him when my shoulder gets better,” Bula said.

Bula underwent off-season surgery for a shoulder injury that cut short his 2024 campaign, but revealed he is hoping to be back before the season kicks off.

“It’s good, I’m still doing rehab, but I’m hoping to be back for Round 1,” Bula said.

His new wife Aaliyah is also a talented rugby league player, who currently plays for the Eels in the NRLW, but Bula says there is no rivalry when the Tigers face Parramatta.

“Nah, no way, I support her when she plays. She supports me when I play,” Bula said.

A beaming Bula spoke fondly of his and Aaliyah’s wedding celebration with family and friends in the off-season.

“It was the best day, we wish we could do it again,” Bula said.

On the field, Bula is busy building a new combination with superstar signing Jarome Luai and the new look Tigers spine.

“It’s been good, I think this is the best we’ve been training ever since Jarome, and the new boys have been coming in, so very excited for the new season,” Bula said.

“It’s a new vibe for sure. They bring a lot of energy to the club, so it should be a good year.

“He’s (Luai) already given me so many opportunities in training, so he’s given us a good direction.

“He’s a good leader and he gives a lot of direction to the team, so it makes my job easier.”

With Bula at the back, skipper Api Koroisau at hooker and Luai and Lachlan Galvin in the halves, the Tigers have a spine that plenty of NRL clubs would envy.

Tigers CEO Shane Richardson called it the best spine in the competition, but Bula just wants to let the footy do the talking.

“Not too sure about that, but we have a pretty good spine,” Bula said.

Bula was named by his father, who always wanted a boy, but had a daughter first, so when his “dream” to have a boy was realised, he named him Jahream.

A basketball prodigy as a youngster, Bula chose rugby league and is not short on confidence on the field, even if he is a little shy off it.

He says it is the Tigers’ belief in him that has instilled confidence in his ability, after Tim Sheens plucked him from obscurity to debut in 2023.

“I’m not too sure, but The Tigers have got some confidence in me, so that has given me even more confidence,” Bula said when asked where his confidence comes from.

“I just want to work hard and be a sponge. I have got some good experienced players around me, so just keep learning from them.”

A brilliant runner and athletic catcher in the air, Bula has been working with club legend Brett Hodgson to improve his catching and passing skills to create more opportunities for his teammates in 2025.

“I’ve been working a lot on my skills and my catch pass game,” Bula said.

“Brett Hodgson has been great at coaching me in that area, so I’m just looking to learn from him.”

Bula was too young to watch Hodgson play, but admits he has seen the infamous footage of Gorden Tallis ragdolling him over the sideline in the Origin arena.

“I have seen the clip, but I haven’t brought it up with him,” Bula said.

The Tigers have the longest finals drought in the NRL, but after three wooden spoons, Bula is confident long-suffering fans will have plenty to cheer about in 2025.

“I think we’ll have a good season this year,” Bula said.

“I think everyone will go crazy if we make the finals. I think we showed a few good signs last year of what we can do and we can only improve from that.”

Can never forget Solomon Haumono’s 15 mins of fame with the so-called Pleasure Machine (so named after an airline ad she did):

Hope he's right for round one... this there's massive potential in Bula, and he's working on exactly what he needs to - Great runner of the footy but his playmaking needs work
The shoulder must of been bad off since August and hoping to be ready for the season start.
