Jahream Bula #269

Douhei to fullback maybe?

Jerome and Madden in the halves?

Latu as 14.
Doueihi hasn’t got the legs for 1 especially in defence, if you wanted to go that route in attack best bet is to shift one of our wingers to 1 in defence have doueihi defend at centre and attack at fullback. Eg in defence turuva moves to 1, doueihi 3, Taylan may 2

Simply ask yourself the question, do you want to support a team with a very good forward pack who will get the better of their opposition more often than not, but still struggle to score points due to lack of quality in their 1-5, or do you want to support a team who has attacking strike within their 1-5 and can potentially win a premiership sometime soon because of it ?
So now our entire 1-5 is a problem?

Ask yourself this. How can anyone take you seriously when you misrepresent the truth to support your position? If you kept it factual and then gave your opinion, then we could engage in a civil discussion. But you did the same thing in the HBG thread.

I told you our forward pack was our strength and our 1-5 was our problem 6 months ago.
Nothing has changed and I have been proven correct.

You are trolling now. We are 2nd on the ladder with our first string 3, 4 and 6 out and a makeshift backline.
Yes all thanks to our forward dominance and quality from our halves.
Our 1-5 have created very little and leaked points.
I give Turuva a pass mark, he has been consistently good without being brilliant. Makasini being 18 is learning fast and you would expect it is only a matter of time before his attacking threat starts to show more often, Laulilli is only 19 and has been very strong with his ball carries despite his defensive issues and Tavana has taken his opportunities very well, but overall our 1-5 has been our weakness and nowhere near as dominant as opposing teams with the same attacking opportunities.

So, 3 teenagers are a bit so-so, Taruva gets a pass....that leaves Bula and Skelton, who are both apparently no good. So it's Twal, Royce, Terrell etc that are scoring all our points?

We finally look like a footy team and someone wants to bag a bunch of young fellas having a red hot crack.

Tavana has been a constant aerial threat, LL has been enormous with his carries, Tito has done a job playing out of position, Makasini’s second half defense v Warriors was phenomenal from a teenager.

Amongst all that, Bula has been solid as a rock.

You don’t get to second by fluke.

I agree our forwards have laid a great platform but it’s a team sport.

What have our back 5 done out of the ordinary to help us aside from Tavana’s aerial ability ?
None of the others have created anything out of nothing or done anything special to swing the momentum our way.
When you are talking about teams back 5, it is the fullback who is supposed to be the most dangerous attacking player and be able to create something when the teams attack is struggling.
We are simply not getting that, we are just getting someone who is safe under the high ball, doesn’t make many errors, backs up well and will score a try when someone has created a gap as big as the Sydney Heads for him to run through.
Does that sound like the player who will help us win a premiership anytime soon ?

I can tell you it’s been a breath of fresh air seeing some genuine athletes competing as a team. I can’t wait til May and Luai are back!

That points to a very balanced footy team to me. Threats all over the park and still pretty rusty.

I am not bagging out young inexperienced players, I am making the point we currently do not have a back 5 that strikes much fear into our opponents and our tounger inexperienced players will continue to improve.
In the meantime we need our higher profile, higher paid players such as Bula to step up and not just cruise along, he needs to be coming up with a few special plays each game in line with what can be expected of a fullback with a high price tag.
I have no idea how anyone has convinced themselves he has demonstrated the ability of a 900k fullback so far this season.
He is quite obviously not re-signing with us for any less than 900k which means we will virtually have no cap space to recruit any other quality outside backs, so by re-signing him at the reported 900k or higher value we are saying we believe we can win a a premiership sometime soon with the players we currently have.

9 different backs have scored in 4 games. It re-emphasises the injury issues we have had.

Its not like we've been playing with our first string backline. Old mate isnt open to discussion. He just wants to kick the boot into bula.

I can see your argument about him wanting 900K but just think you’re making it with a little too much criticism.

I’d love to pick him up for 750K but unfortunate his markets probably 900K. I’d want and expect him to keep improving if we pay that amount.
