Jamal Idris joins Wests Tigers...Official...

Matt Utai did a lot of good things for us - but none better than this:

1\. Tedesco
2\. Nofoaluma
3\. Chee-Kam
4\. Idris
5\. Simona.

Thats what I'd like to see running out round 1, 2017.

Taking into account Naiqama goes to EPL, and whatever issues Taylor has with MCK gets buried by MCK training his ring off during the off season.

I'd be happy with that backline, and backing in Tim Simona for top tryscorer next year if that was what we ran out.

1\. Tedesco
2\. Nofoaluma
3\. Naiqama
4\. Idris
5\. Simona.

I think I'd stick with Naiqama in the centres but I'd play ET on that edge. If the defence on that side still goes to pieces than maybe swap Idris to the other side. If Idris can perform we should be dangerous on both sides of the ruck.

I can see the point of swapping Naiqama for Idris but we still have to worry about Rankin on the other side.

Simona running off Idris could be really good and it'll give Brooks some more options on that side as well.

Naiqama, although brilliant in attack….most times.... is a defensive issue that we can ill afford....It was so obvious how teams would single him out for another stroll in the park. :sign:

Agree. His defence is not good enough to be a first grade centre. It's wing or bust. That's if he's even here next year.

No way Naiqama in the centres.

we honestly need to get rid of rankin. my backline for 2017:
1.Tedesco
2.Nofolouma
3.Idris
4.Simona
5.Naqiuma

I agree about rankin but i feel that he is less of a defensive liability than naiqama

Agreed he was our weakest defender in the backline constantly out of position and putting added pressure on the players around him

I agree we have to get rid of Rankin, but Naiqama on the wing would be a disaster! If Justin Hunt is still with us, I would put him there instead and give him the goal kicking duties as well. It would balance out our backline nicely and he deserves it, imo. He was one of the best in the Intrust Super comp all year.

I dont think u need strike centres to be a force in this competition. You need strong centres who do their job with good finishing wingers and classy 1,6,7.

So i would go

1.Tedesco
2.Nofoaluma
3.Chee Kam/Heleta
4.Idris
5.Simona

I just want a couple of centres than can work as a solid defensive unit with our current or new backrow

With the attack at our disposal with our 1,6 and 7 we can score enough points to win a lot of footy games , we just need to learn how to defend the points we can score

If we could learn to keep our opposition under say 18 points a game we will win a hell of a lot more games than we will lose every season

Happy that is probably the best summation I have read in a long time. We have attacking points comping out of our nose, Teddy and Moses are point machines, but as good as we attack, we defend worse. Its about getting the right balance

Yep, if idris/chee kam/ haleta or who ever is big enough to make a solid defensive unit outside and with a ET like on the inside should help - if they can work as a cohesive unit that would help Moses and brooks confidence in defence.

While he did miss some Moses has shown a lot of courage in his defence, more so than the previous season, last season he pulled off some good and important tackles.

Size isn't always important , one of the best defensive centres I have seen was Chris Johns from the Saints /Broncos in the 80's -90's

Made great reads and always would hit and stick

Johns wouldn't have been 90kgs , just great technique

Good attacking player as well , good speed

Just think he was a NSW player and had talent as well , go figure :crazy

Centres still need to be able to move laterally , that was Rowdy's big issue post hip and hamstring problems

Most players who reach NRL standard can tackle, but the very good teams all defend as a unit, and knowing what role you play within that unit. The Sharks and the Storm are perfect examples of teams that defend very well as a unit. Its that word again STRUCTURE and we need to put a very effective defensive structure in place. You will never defend the freak plays but you can defend most plays

I remember johns, good player and defender. Your right they don't have to be big, but most centres now days are on average bigger player. Yes lateral movement is important but mostly they have to gel as a unit.

They can't gel if they have a player that can't move laterally

A player like Tedesco will tear them apart

Much like we tore Penrith apart with Tedesco targeting Cartwright , once a player can get on his opposition players outside pandemonium usually ensures , creates the overlap

A simple matter of catch ,draw and pass then , try time
