James Tedesco Signs with Roosters [Official]

Ok, Clarification is needed on cooling off periods. The 10 day cooling off period is an NRL rule, it was brought in to replace the round 13 deadline for players existing clubs to keep a player once they signed a new contract.

1\. It is an NRL rule
2\. It is non-negotiable, i.e it can not be waived and it can not be extended.

This was brought in after the high profile back flips of James Tedesco and Daly Cherry Evans.

Well the second point isn't true as Nofoaluma definitely waived his cooling off period. Quotes from Nofoaluma below confirm that…

Sure.

But you could make it so that both parties could pull out in that period, if you were worried about that.

If the player was good enough, and the available players in their position not great, you would probably be prepared to risk it.

Moses isn't good enough

Probably. But I suspect Parra see him as a perfect solution to a problem they have. Almost a final piece in the puzzle. Perfect price point and suitability for their team. There are not too many other available 5/8th's Parra would want, IMO.

Can only go off the NRL, which is a little ambiguous so it is possible. It states all contracts will have a 10 day cooling off period. It does state elsewhere in articles about it that its a maximum 10 day cooling off period, so it maybe they use that as a loophole

At that point in time there were much better halves on the market, Widdop, Cronk etc.

If Parra have given him more time then they will continue to be the rabble they have been for the past few years for a long time to come.

Certainly did, Nofoaluma signed a waiver to make it possible.

Im not saying they have. I think its unlikely they have. I just noted that its possible.

Widdop is probably outside of Parra's price point for that position.

Problem with Cronk is that no one knows if he going to play next year. You can't hold a large spot in your roster until the end of the year in the hope that he might run around again.

Widdop re-signed with the Dragons..

Clubs can announce anytime they want after the cooling off period expires..it's not set in stone …

They may want to announce before a home game or whatever...who knows...

Maybe Parramatta are waiting for announcement as confident he will be a Eel this year in coming days and waiting for that to be finalised.

There is a lesson in all this. Don't ever bring young players with potential and give them the keys. Build a solid squad where young players that come through add to the team and don't carry the load. We have bred a culture of upstarts that think they are better than they are on the field. Even with them we were average and at best a bottom top 8 team.
Teddy is a huge loss but at 1.2m we wil end up better off without him. Roosters can manipulate the cap via tpa we can't take the risk

Totally nailed it.

DCE was 80K at Manly and winning premiere rings. Our halves were top money with Marshall, Austin and TMM pushed out and for what? 2 guys that did not even play well together! I get it League is about money, but you keep the guys with heart. Of all the 5/8's above I would take Austin in a second. Moses, no fault to him, make it clear he was about money and not that keen to stay. We should have let him escape earlier.

Teddy is a loss, but we need a team. Parramatta tried building an I instead of a team and the Gold coast are trying to ship him out now.

Well said . And part of that was also Woods promoted to captain ahead of his time.
Onwards and upwards ??

Paul Kent on tonights NRL360 show suggested that Nick Politis and Jarryd Hayne's manager were having a decent conversation at yesterday's ANZAC day game.

Could suggest that Tedesco isn't fibbing and isn't a done deal at the Roosters. Also heard that the Roosters have their eyes on Josh dugan if they miss out on Teddy.

Could we still hold out on hope that Teddy stays ?

If it really isn't about money and he wants to be competitive then all these signings shouldn't deter him at all. In fact, should be all the reason to keep him at a more reasonable price.

He wasn't leaving for more money anyway, so he could possibly stay if a revised (cheaper) contract was revisited.

One can only hope 😛ray:

who knows. Pretty sureitl be official on friday. Annoying because there are not many fullbacks on the market. If we kept hjim we have a good spine. just have to add a couple really good forwards.

I'll be gobsmacked if Tedesco stays, 100/1 shot. They've had plenty of time to make up their mind, even Cleary has been here for >3 weeks now, if that was the thing they wanted to suss out.
