James Tedesco Signs with Roosters [Official]

Penrith just announced the re-signings of Moylan and Cartwright who were both off contract next yr. And both of them would command more money than our off contract players bar Tedesco. So theres no excuse to not wrap up 2 or 3 before round 1\. We can't let it drag on like Tedesco's last contract and Moses and Brooks this yr. The good clubs get these things sorted. So this is a test of Pascoe's metal.

I think we should be getting the players that we want on fair contracts.

Anyone that doesn't think Teddy will be receiving offers of $1million a year from half the league is deluded. We will offer somewhere in that ballpark too, that's market rates, unless he asks for less.

Just remember he turned down more money to stay once, and he's gone on the record about trying to get the other big players to take less cash to stick together.

Without doubt, Teddy will command a million plus, we are a good chance of getting him a little cheaper than the opposition but he will still likely cost us around the million mark.

Easy said than done, the club can do all the talking in the world but it really comes down to the players in question and what they want to do. The four players in question will get plenty of offers from all over the place, it remains to be seen if they want to risk being at a under achieving club or go to a club that plays finals football most years.

Most of us are pretty confident we have some good years ahead of us if we can keep the big four and make a couple of other smart buys, I just hope they see it the same way

I can't see how other clubs can offer so much more because there is a salary cap. Tedesco will have to be on the books of whatever club he goes to for more than what we are prepared to offer him via the salary cap.

I think he will sign with us and I don't think he will try to get paid overs.

They're not talking about the cap Steve - they are talking TPA's.

I get it but I'll explain it this way. The roosters can offer Tedesco $100k out of their cap but $5 million in TPA's. We offer Tedesco $1 million. The roosters can't put Tedesco on their books at $100k. He will have to be on their books for at least $1 million.

The salary cap has to limit clubs from purchasing players like this.

I honestly don't see the big issue. I think it's just us stating how everything is against us when it isn't.

Steve, we will offer Teddy $1M pa to stay but the roosters will offer him $800k + $500k in TPAs.

$1.5M a year v our $1M a year. That leaves the Roosters another $200k to help strengthen their team. Times that by another 2 or 3 players with strong TPAs and it makes a big difference.

The NRL will sanction the roosters signing Teddy for $800k of the cap.

The $100k that you suggested isn't possible because it has to be a notional value.

I don't believe what you are stating. If you can prove this then no worries but it simply doesn't ring true to me.

I also think Teddy will stay. I also think he will get additional money from a TPA.

Seeing that all 16 clubs spent just over $15 million in TPA's ( Figures from the NRL itself ) I struggle to see how one or even multiple non entity contributors would spend $500 000 on one player no matter how good he was

Good to see a post of yours again Happy. I hope that all is well.

It doesn't ring true to me either. But what can you do. It is a chat forum. You can be anyone you want to be and say anything you want to say. And some people are just incredibly economical with the truth.

It's not that. There are a bunch of posters on here that want to believe we have the worst roster of all time, our facilities mean we will never be able to compete with any club and that for every dollar that other clubs spend we spend 5c.

I don't pretend to know what drives those posters to believe what they believe. I've only been around here for a short time. What I do see is a lot of speculation and some of it with no factual basis at all. Maybe it is just frustration that causes some posters to have such a negative attitude. It would be interesting to come back a year from now, say with tigers being in the top 4 and see if all the negative attitudes had changed to messages of support and praise for the team, the coach and the management.

Welcome to the forum, years of frustration take a toll

Harry will be providing Teddy with a nice TPA. We can compete with any other club with more for him. He won't be going anywhere. End of story.

Good luck with that.

Tedesco to use rep experience for Tigers
By Greg Prichard
September 25, 2016

PRIME Minister’s XIII fullback James Tedesco says his breakthrough to State of Origin selection for NSW this year has given him the confidence to become more of a leader at Wests Tigers.

“It’s a pretty elite sort of thing to play at that level and there will only be a couple of us in the team who have done that going into next season – myself and ‘Woodsy’,” Tedesco tells RLW.

“I already had that confidence and belief in myself as a player before I played Origin, but the experience at that level certainly helps me and makes me feel like a sort of leader of the team.”

Asked how he plans to turn that leadership desire into action, Tedesco says he will start by being “a bit more vocal, on and off the field”.

“Probably off the field more,” he says.

“I was already pretty vocal on the field, but off the field at meetings I’d keep to myself. I’ll try to have an influence there.

“I’m just aiming to be more involved. I’m in the leadership group, but it’s only now that I’m feeling like a leader.

“I’ve become a more experienced player.

“I do like being a leader and trying to rally the boys up. I try not to shy away from it.

“It’s probably not a natural thing for me to do off the field, but I’m trying to get better at it because I think it’ll be good for the team.

“Myself, Mitch Moses and Luke Brooks are all trying to find our voice.”
Hopefully this gives us more of a chance that he'll stay
