Track pushies are OK at least it's over in a couple of minutes not 50 hrs..

In cardio-vascular terms track cycling is the hardest sport I've ever done. The amount of people who vomit after club races is crazy. I've finished 1k races thinking I was going to die. The elite guys are incredibly fit and strong.

Anna Meares one of my favourite athletes.

Rockhampton girl .....both Meares sisters were beasts of the track

Soccerwoes ain’t going to good

Wait til the women kick British ass later in the week

Just got to stop Kerr taking penalties ...I've never seen a No 1 spot taker miss so much

Like to give you an example ...in all the year I can remember Mark Noble missed one ......the FA cup tie v Everton when it got down to keepers taking shots ...

Olympic soccer is so naf

Olyroos played very negatively in the first half and eventually paid the penalty - terrible tactics. Matildas game was woeful as well. You don't win tournaments with draws.

Aussie girls going OK against the Italians in beach volleyball. Hockeyroos hopefully on the way to a win.

It took me a little while to get into the Olympic mindset but I'm loving it now.

It's a funny old world when athletes get praised for quitting in the middle of a team sport.
"Lay down Sally" must be looking at the praise for that American gymnast and shaking her head.

you're comparing apples with oranges - I understand what you're saying but it's a totally different scenario

I only watch aussie highlights of this Olympic - I don't like watching a sports event when the russian and chinese athletes are involved or competing - they are like the Sharkies of the Olympics

The only difference is that Sally wasn't intent on protecting her "brand" so didn't have the forethought to fabricate an excuse for mental weakness.

if you personally know her (the US girl) then ok you can judge her by what she has done... I agree with you but we just need to sometimes shrug shoulders and give them the benefit of the doubt

My mate's daughter rowed in the Australian eight that day. Their run towards gold had been planned to the minute, everything had gone to plan and they were absolutely confident of gold. The team didn't want Sally because she had 'form' in failing in races before but the coach and team officials told them that was all in the past. When she laid down in the race they were all gutted. They were so disgusted most of them never competed again. My mate's daughter, who was a champion cyclist and basically excelled at every sport she tried, went to live in France and never competed at elite level in any sport again.

I can only imagine how soul destroying it must've been. What she did was disgraceful.
It just bugs me that taking personal responsibility for doing the wrong thing is so unfashionable now.

My mate wasn't super close to the other girls in the team but he did say it devastated them all. You can never be sure of these things but they all believed the gold medal was theirs. You're right in saying it was "soul destroying", that's a very apt description. Taking personal responsibility is important but, sadly, is often missing.

Gold and Olympic Record to Stubblety-Cook Men’s 200m Breaststroke. A mighty fine race. He went 2seconds faster in the last 50m than the opposition. Amazing.

This one was pretty unexpected but what a great race. Our swimmers have been sensational and it's good to see some fresh faces taking us forward. Positive signs for the future.

I actually wonder if us having a good year covid wise compared to other countries has led to the strong results

Maybe, they probably haven't had the restrictions a lot of other countries have.

An extra 12 months of maturity and training has probably made the younger ones more competitive as well. Hard to believe Ariarne Titmus is only 20.

Side note - it certainly seems like a lot of the swimmers are into cupping.

I don't think I have ever seen Chalmers without the cupping marks all over him.
