OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

Maybe I've come on too strong, but I am sick of this BS. Its same crap different year.

This all stems from what happened in december.

The club was finally in a strong position on and off the field.

Luai isnt in PNG today if december didnt happen, because those clauses were going.

There would be no conjecture about Bula because he was ready to sign in december.

I am an optimistic guy, but to be optimistic about this club while we have the same rotting head would just be stupid of me.

Take a look back at my blind optimism from 14 years ago, thinking things would get better.

I want the club to succeed, the owners say they want that too, but the priority is protecting the magpies.... we are not aligned.
Whilst I don’t disagree , as I keep saying a half who bounces around everywhere as his main skill , usually loses that bounce and first step by the time they’re early 30s .
I love Romey , but years 28and 29 scared the shit out of me more than anything , as Andruws will be the Queensland 6 moving forward imo . And Latu is a gun , just needs his adult body to grow and get those hammys right .
There’s already people who were speculating about Latu needing to move on , as his road to nrl is blocked . This is a good thing imo . I can’t see a negative .

Yeah ..you are an optimistic guy generally …I don’t think this is the end of the world and could be some upside

Can’t let this derail things … if Luai leaves in 18 months it might be with Benji’s blessing to free up some cap and keep Latu and/or Madden and Andrews..

Let’s be honest ..Bula is a separate issue ..but yes… maybe JL leaving might influence him …

I’m mindful of keeping this thread on topic and keeping the discussion about Jerome Luai, but geez Logan Brookes has a lot of similarities to a young Dylan Edwards.
Yes and we have Andrews and Brookes and Attard so let’s let them all go! Can’t wait to win a premiership in 2040.

Do you know for sure those clauses were going? I feel like Luai has always been pretty obsessed with money. Api even made a joke on a BTR pod last year about Luai loving money & the team teasing him about it haha

To be clear Luai leaving in 28 doesnt make us better. Projecting Latu or even Madden being better players is unfair on them its highly unlikely. Freeing up 1.2m however helps retain Pole, Mays, Fainus, Bula etc. Penrith have been able to regenerate on the run. Id guess the club will know the decision before the option period he will let Benji know.

Am I the only one that thinks this is a good thing? With AD taking the reins at 7, by 2028, we would be well placed to have latu or Andrews slip into that spot. Theyre no luai, but neither is madden and we kept winning

Luais true value was helping elevated our culture and standards... and get us back to finals. You could argue that first goal has been achieved, and were on track for the 2nd.

This is a good transition plan.

Anyone who can a gig for 1mil plus, tax free, has to at least consider it. If he goes then from a football perspective we'll be fine, maybe better off by then - the manner of the exit is where it could get messy and disruptive.
With new clubs coming in this is inevitable (not just our players) and I don't see this being anything like other scenarios we've endured.

I see how this may actually be a positive with our current depth in the halves.

But we werent to know that this time last year.

Im just disappointed that in the middle of a hot run of form and our marquee player is overseas.

Its such a wests tigers thing.

wtf are you talking about ? They’re all guns . They’re just too small right now (not Latu as he’s had a couple of nrl pre seasons so his is just injuries) . They’ll need 3 nrl pre seasons to really be ready . And when is that ? It aligns perfectly with. AD will be 30 ish , Maybe we can get Api to go around 1 more year and share with Heyward , maybe we don’t need to .
These “kids” will all be 22 years or older in 2028. That’s exactly the age you want the transition to happen . It’s what the storm have been doing for years . This latest gen , I think they just got the rule change impact wrong .

My understanding is that it was a done deal, they were as good as gone.

There are others on here alot closer to it who can verify.

I think if JL stays with us until end of 27 his job will have been just about done. I think the recruiting by Benji and Richo was always aimed at a generational change by end of 27/28. Look at Penrith, they’ve continued to roll despite losing 1/2 their best side of a few years ago.
I don’t think he’s done a helluva lot on the field but the cultural impact of premiership winning players like him , Korosau and Turuva on the club is significant.
And by the look of it, they’ve made Tiger footy fun again, and that can’t hurt ! Can it!

Tbh i’m just pissed about the timing of it all given it has a chance to de stabilise our season but looking at it from a footballing perspective it seems like a win win for both parties.

Yeah …don’t know why he had to go now … but it’s pretty low on the Wests Tigers disaster index

They wanted Bula and Luai to leave (who have us currently 2nd) because we have two talented 19 year olds who’s never played an NRL game. It’s a cope instead of addressing why we can’t retain players.
