OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

idk if you’ve watched the last 3 games but we don’t score any points without him. and without him we wouldn’t of landed the mays, turuva, Skelton etc
Agree. First season and limited pre-season + disruption with Galvin, he's improved at the back end.

He doesn't get the stats, but he also doesn't stifle the play. He shifts to where the ball needs to go so others around him benefit. He's not a selfish player. Perhaps too unselfish, but he's starting to look really sharp and the timings of all the players seem to be coming together.

Defence wise, he's great. Short kicking, he's also very good. His weakness is his long kicking game if I had to nit pick.

Great summary

Anyone think Luai is still worth 1.2 million? 🤡
I can't recall where I heard it but apparently before luai was at the club, players were taking shortcuts everywhere... It sounds like that doesn't happen anymore - so how much value do you place on that? It benefits the entire team and club culture.. something we desperately needed after 3 spoons

All this stuff about what he does off field is merely unquantifiable dribble. None of us can really judge that and have to take the word of unreliable witnesses.
For that reason we can only judge what we do see.
He speaks well in interviews and says all the right things. He defends well. His short kicking game is deadly at times.
He also doesn’t lead well enough and plays like a headless chook too much. He doesn’t seem very adept at dealing with officials either. He ain’t a captain.
For mine he isn’t worth the money he is on and has been a let down this season, but the team are starting to play better recently so I’m interested to see what they can do next year.

Benji:
“Jarome has been really great for us. I know people have mixed opinions about what he's done on the field, but off the field he's definitely changed the place in terms of standards with what he's brought to us.”

Api:
“He’s changed so much since when I first met him back in 2020… His footy IQ and the way he’s able to convey his ideas or what he thinks we should do is incredible. … He knew that he had to change things at this club. He’s come in and he hasn’t held back. Everyone looks up to him and loves him… If he needs to say something then he will, and that takes real leadership and courage.”
He also praised the fresh, energetic atmosphere Luai helped foster: “The vibes have been great… How you start your sessions at training is really important… The vibe they’ve created helps build connections off the field as well. The laughs you create off the field definitely translates to on the field.”

Richo:
“Penrith provided him with the polish that’s made him what he is, on and off the field … At our club he’s the alpha leader, he’s taken on that role, and I’ve been surprised at how good he has done at that role. I’m just glad we’ve got him.”

Turuva:
“(Our set-up) is similar [to Penrith], to be honest. One reason is because we have Jarome here,” Turuva told AAP. “He’s driving the standard, driving the culture. It’s a real young group, so that’s pretty good for me as well.”

im not sure how much more credible you can get?

He's the captain though and they have to defend him. They probably know his on field stats and performance is not very good, so they have to back him up in some other way

Now you saying it “cost us”…. And not “cost us the game “..so at least you walking it back…that’s smart ..you also ARE blaming him … that’s what we are talking about actually ..
Gee thanks, for your sarcasm it’s much appreciated. Of course it’s not always down to the individual error Tom, but like I said errors at crucial times cost us the game.
What’s with all the ‘we’ bullshite, is there are shite club I haven’t signed up for???
It’s so hypocritical of ‘you’ lot, u are always out there blaming seyfarth, Benji, etc. Then when I put a comment out there u are all up in my grill over wording! Get a grip, peanut gallery. Next GNR will be at the heals biting over grammar, please…

Do you even know what they means? Or do you think it just makes you sound hip?
Any possible way u can be more condescending??? If anyone was the judge of being hip, it would most certainly not be you! Imagine being judged by a troll like yourself, always trolling for attention, can u leave a subject without negative commenting???

Sorry mate. Just wondering what’s woke about an opinion on a players form? Or is everything just considered woke these days? Your car breaks down? The engine must be woke. The chef burns your steak at a restaurant? Woke. Australia lose a Test match? Pat Cummins woke opinions on the climate took away his ability to bowl. Woke.

Thing is- if it's not Jerome that has made these changes to the club- the better results, the greater commitment on the field etc- where does it come from?

Benji?
Hodgo?
Turuva?

Who or what is responsible for our greater competitiveness in 2025?

Debatable?
The bloke has been poor. So poor he lost his Origin jersey after starring last year and being a major factor in that series win.
His on field leadership has been a joke…often our most ill disciplined.
He has looked lost at sea and had zero answers when the boys looked to him.
He needs a big preseason, because in 2026, he owes us big time.
Yea, we really miss that great onfield leadership of Luke Brooks.
I mean we had fantastic on field leadership in Brooks, Jackson Hastings and Aiden Sezer.
It must be that 4 time Premiereship winner that is the problem here. ...

Hey you are right, we have always been a disorganised rabble. We looked so lost this season many times. Heck we have looked lost for such a long time, I had to think was Ivan Cleary coaching us or are we going back to Scott Prince times...

So many games, we walk out and... I have no idea what the gameplan is and neither do the players.
Yes, Luai needs to take leadership. Luai has taken leadership in our defense and we have seen what a difference that has made for our defense... Luai also needs to lead in Attack...

But our gameplan, What Gameplan??
I see our guys run out and have no idea what to do. They are not sure so they are slower and it often seems it's a one trick wonder. Luai needs to own it when the gameplan goes out the window, but it is on Benji when we just have no idea so many games walking out there.

Luai owes us in 2026, but Benji owes us bigger in 2026.
