Leadership and age can do wonders for guys like Luai and might help him mature. There's a long list of players across a numbers of sports who have carried on in their youth but turned it around later on - Hewitt and Warner come to mind.

I don't really see him as a leader at Penrith. Maybe he feels he can get away with it there. I'm hoping if he was signed he would be charged with being a role model to some of our younger players both on and off the field and would feel that expectation a little more. We are in desperate need of leadership and inspiration beyond Api.

Most seem to be keen? There seems to be a minority opinion that it would be a bad thing, which is fine. Some of the misgivings are understandable.

When you say "containing" or "moulding" personality or behaviour, I honestly think Cleary is afraid to do that and why would he want to? These guys are battlers who've come good in a very competitive environment. I think Cleary wants to let them take ownership of their choices concerning their behaviour and their personality traits are something he should never try to change. Just my opinion.

I agree.

If he went full Madge mode, it would very likely blow up in his face. It's a balancing act I think.

I actually disagree a bit with this.

Yes LB had no gameplan and produced ?? in attack when he should have answers.

Our backs I personally blame for 2023 and us coming last.
Look our halves sucked, and were changed a lot.
But we had games with Brooks and AD, for all that criticism they kept the ball moving.

Our backs just let the opposition team in and did not cross the line enough themselves. A gun Center would have made all the difference.

I agree, but if he did come here to us, a struggling club, he would have the pressure of being the chief play maker, and I haven't forgotten about Api, but with our well known history of not having controlling halves, the majority of the pressure would be on him to turn things around.

This is one of the reasons that Latrine used as an excuse to not come here and it would be interesting to see how he coped with that pressure, I don't think Latrine would have coped with it all that well.

PRESSURE!!!....😱 [causing lack of confidence] .... can be a killer.
When I was a kid 14/15 yoa, a looooooong time ago, I used to play cricket with a few mates in the local park, and I could do anything. Spin the ball as well as bowl at a fairly fast pace. My batting was not to the same level but still pretty good anyway.
I was the captain of my House team at school, and we won the House comp. with me opening bat and opening bowler.
The headmaster asked me one day why I wasn't playing for the school.

A bloke was walking through the park one day when I was playing with my mates, and spotting my ability asked me to play for his Church team.
In my very 1st game, I opened the batting with the captain at the other end.....and I was bloody pathetic in scoring only two runs of the edge of the bat, and they were the only runs I scored in half a season.
When it was our turn to bowl the captain gave me the honor of opening the bowling even though I had been a dismal failure with the bat.
I lasted 2 overs before I was sent out to the boundary to field for the rest of the game and never got another bowl and was demoted to last man in with the bat.

Pressure!!!!😱😱....too much bloody pressure to perform.

If the captain was a more understanding, nurturing and patient bloke I reckon I would have delivered the goods.
He instead was a piece of 💩 and destroyed me with his attitude towards me due to my failures, simple as that.
Whenever I watch cricket on TV I look at it with a certain amount of sadness, for what I could have achieved, but didn't.

What's the meaning of all this.

The captain and coach of any team can make or break careers.
Jarome Luai needs to be careful of where he chooses to play.
But I hope it's with WT, as I feel Benji will be the right coach for him, and the right captain is already at our club.

This is the key quote:

"All players that come into the market, you've got to have a look at, especially if they're marquee players (like Luai).

"But we've signed halves, we've got four halves for the season going into it. We'll prioritise that at the moment."

Perhaps it means that he's not looking too far forward (2025) and sticking with what he's got. I don't mind it. AD is on big money we should let him go. Leave the halves shootout between Sullivan, Fainu and then Large comes in later. Sezer will be offered a 1 year extension at most if he plays good next year. 2024 will be a good experimental year I think. 25/26 is time to cash in on the talented juniors all over the park

His ego will be out of control. I wouldn’t be surprised if his personality prevents him from ever playing for NSW again. He’s always going to be dislikable, even if he does come here. It would be interesting to see how his personality copes at a struggling club. He’s just as likely to sulk and angle for a way out. As desperate as we are for a half, it would not be the worst thing in the world if he took another club’s money. I definitely won’t be upset about it.

I'm not sure about that. I'm not his biggest fan but he had every right to make that post. What Ivan said about him in that interview was disgraceful IMO

“At the moment” key part of the quote = Benji wants more.

AD and Sezer we don’t have for 25 currently.

I’m glad he is having the discussions. Let’s see what unfolds. Would be surprised if Luia comes.
