I don't have full confirmation but tomorrow is the date I've been hearing. Doubt it is announced on Christmas Day or Boxing Day which is 10 days since the offer was accepted (should Penrith waive it of course)
I'd say everyone would want to go into the Christmas period with this sorted. WT, Penrith and the NRL's contractual team.

if anything is holding it up, it's TPAs. they take an age to be approved. hopefully they're sorted by tomorrow and we cop an email in the hours that follow.

The club did not leak Luai's departure to the media. Why would we? There is no benefit in doing so. There are plenty out there that like to throw rubbish at us, but we don't play petty games.
Two other parties have more to gain. The journalist with an exclusive, who is close to both the club & the player. And the manager. Who is keen to stir things up for a cut in 2024.

Luai informed the club and his teammates Saturday morning that he wouldn't be taking up the clubs offer, and would be leaving at the next seasons end.
He has a verbal agreement to join the Tigers in 2025. The Tigers have been getting everything in order, for him to sign a contract this week with them. Since then his manager has spent the week going around to the Dogs, and then the Dragons for a last-minute offer.

Much has been made about Ivan's comments regarding Luai. They are not an issue. Both have moved on from it. Anyone looking to bring that up in the media is looking for a wedge.

There is an issue that has upset Luai regarding his contract. I don't think that matter should be shared on a public forum. And won't reveal it here. It is not insurmountable.
The club will have to smooth things over in the new year. It's an issue that has been bubbling on for some time, but exaggerated by his new management team. Who shall we stay interpret things differently.
While they have his best financial interests at heart for 2025, things would be a lot better if they have his best interests at heart for 2024. Not just solely their best interests.

The club has sensibly, apart from Fletcher, kept things quiet this week. Not risking to inflame the situation.

We will not be releasing him to the Tigers for 2024. Won't happen.

panthers fans are extremely defensive and think they are perfect. The 1.4 million number that was put out by their CEO was intentionally made up to make their offer more reasonable to the fans. Also, they defended Ivan's disrespectful comments on Luai whether you agree or not. They're delusional and think their club can do no wrong

Who else would’ve? The news leaked right after Luai told his teammates at training…

Personally Im a little disappointed with Luai's stance atm re not training. He has a contract for 2024 which he shld honor IMO...NRL players and managers need to understand this, and it needs to be enforced
My guess is either us (but most probably the Dogs who have absolutely zero scruples) have offered to start his new "deal"at $1.1/$1.2mill effective immediately, enticing him to switch now..hence the behaviour. Its an extra half mill in his pocket this season
Panthers have been great for Luai and he owes them 2024 as per his contract and if unavailable with zero notice potentially derails their opportunity for another title,
The only reason for Panthers wld him go early is if his shoulder injury is gonna sideline him for a chunk of 24...
Not feeling as good as I shld re Luai
Not happy when players do it to get out of contracts early: Moses, Matterson, Aloiai etc. But more than happy for Luai to cause a bit of drama at that club, will be good to see😂.

Good luck getting the clubs to agree. It works in the AFL cos they have done it forever. It would take a drastic change in culture for it to be implemented in the NRL. Then what would journo’s have to talk about? Player‘s switching clubs, and the rumours around them make up a large chunk of the rubbish they write. Our very own Signings thread would be dormant for 10-11 months of the year.
….and is there any negative effects?
