I'm one of JT's harshest critics on this forum and I honestly think he doesn't have what it takes to be an NRL coach, but I'm ok with him being the coach in 2017, but in saying that this is put up or shut up after this year. I for one hope to see accountability in performances and see finals footy or he should be shown the door without a doubt. Some people are saying our squad isn't good enough to make the 8 regardless of who is the coach, I think that's rubbish if Titans and Panthers can make the 8 with their squads there's no reason why we can't make the 8 with this squad, top 4 would be pushing it but top 8 is achievable. It's up to JT to start man managing this playing group and get them mentally up for it.

And this has been his problem ever since he became a head coach, he doesn't know how to man manage, so I am not expecting anything new from him next year because he has not been able to do it yet.

i'm glad you are part of the coaching staff and see him interact with players…

I think Tedesco, Moses and co might disagree seeing as the word around is that they're behind him. Take into account all the players who have re-signed under him. We've only lost players we have willingly let go. 2+2=4

Thats the rumour, they are behind him. All he needs know is the full backing of the board and then we know he is on the way out. its a joke

It is fair enough that some fans support our team but not our coach.
But to boo JT when he walks out onto the field or is shown on the big screen is just pathetic IMO.

X4\. Disrespect for their coach by some WT fans during matches is a very bad look for the club, doesn't engender confidence into the WT players and in the eyes of fans from other club makes the club look like rubbish.

The ones that do boo him pay their admissions, and are entitled to show support or boo whoever they like

Fair enough. So if you don't like your Nanna then it is well and good to hurl abuse at her and give her the bird when she rolls around for Xmas lunch? Same thing…...you can't choose your family either.
But it just makes the person that does it look like an imbecile in the eyes of others IMO.
I'm far from convinced by Taylor's coaching and probably wish we had a top-notch coach instead but I certainly don't stoop to the level of booing the bloke. Each to their own.

To me it's simple. Let's give someone else a go because Taylor has been extremely poor.

I still think we will have a good season next year.

If we have a good season next year, he hasn't been extremely poor.

Bottom line if Taylor can get the side in the finals and performing wgen they get there he will earn an extension..if he fails to....NEXT...

Not sure if that's a timely reference or a coincidence.

By what Pascoe was saying in that Podcast i posted in the signing Rumours thread… he says they will wait 6-8 weeks into next Season and then discuss where the Season is heading then make a recommendation to the board with which way they should be going as far as who will be Coaching us in 2018 and beyond.

I think we can't let it drag on for most of next Season IMO as we don't need the added distractions on players such as Tedesco , Moses , Brooks and Woods will have on there futures , as there is no doubt players want to know who they will be Coached by before signing there next deal....one would think.

As soon as he came here. It was honestly like he was one of the posters that post in this forum.

If memory serves, he gave the club some home truths about how we had been a club for yrs that had relied on attack, and never tried to address defensive issues so made it his mission to correct it himself. Hasn't been successful so far, but why people continue to bag him for this is beyond comprehension. And despite what revisionists like to believe, he didn't promise or guarantee that he would correct it. He said it was his goal. Any coach worth his salt would have said the same thing.

This is where I think you have it wrong. There is no sackable offence here. We are simply running a top sporting club within Australia. It's not like a 9-5 job where you have sackable offences. The club can extremely easily state we want to go in a different direction and Taylor should still be stoked that we gave him a chance.

You've been saying this whole thread you want him gone because of his actions over the last two yrs, regardless of what we do next yr. To me it sounds like you think his whole tenure thus far is a sackable offence.

@stevetiger said:
I wouldn't be surprised if he is extended. He might also do a decent job in the role for another couple of seasons. He is a risk though and that is why I wouldn't pick him. You could state so is any other coach and I agree with that. I still think though that he hasn't done a good enough job and he has been given more than a fair go.

Any coach not named Bellamy or Bennett is a risk with our kind of roster. The coach is only part of it though, you need to have the cattle. If Taylor were to go, the next coach we get will be a risk as well as we can't afford anything else.

I think FT made a good point in another thread. The club appears to be all on the same page. Maybe for the first time in its entire existence. Whether you agree or disagree about what they are doing is one thing, but i think everyone should be happy that the club is at least unified.

Steve had it in for Potter as well GNR

I think that JT will improve his coaching next year in regards to team selections once he has a final top 25, at the moment there is much speculation if he will be here mid 2017 or beyond..many who critise him for the past 2 seasons fail to see the difficulty he had within the playing squad and salary cap issues, these could not be fixed overnight and now are only just starting to be finally sorted, albeit the cap is still a burden for the whole club..I remember many saying that the deadwood has to go and be replaced by quality players, however no money to offer quality players makes it difficult to purchase their services…my wholehearted opinion is that once the culture within the club changes to a positive and winning one then we definitely will be a competitive force in the NRL competition, and we are heading in the right direction in this regards....to become a top sporting club,no matter what the sport, many sacrifices and hard decisions have to be made,we as a club are no different...personally Iam looking forward to the pre season commencing and hoping to see who we have in the top 25 and watching JT coach the team to a finals bearth in 2017...
Lastly in my opinion the board,Pascoe and admin are doing a much more professional job than previous persons within their roles......

I wonder whether all the people having a go at Taylor ever had a go at the real person behind our problems of the last 5 years. Ever heard of Humphreys?

To a degree yes but Mayer owns most of it.
Mayer didn't clean up the Humphreys mess, he fed it.

You can trace all the stupidity as far back as bullock if you want to.he blew the money we got from the merger. It has been added to with every ceo since.Hopefully our new ceo dosent go the same way we dont need more problems like Noyce Humphries and Mayer

Yes there's been a long history of picking the 'wrong' man for the job and it has compounded all of our financial woes for years. When is the club going to learn? Is Pascoe the right person? Time will tell, I guess.

The cry is always "we're building for _next_ year, we'll be able to be more active in the player market _next_ year", but next year never comes! I borrowed a line from a post by Ricksen for my signature because I thought it summed up perfectly the way many of us are probably feeling about the never ending mismanagement of our club - **"Sooner or later next year has to be this year!"**

After reading all the different threads discussing the issues it seems to me the plan is to try and lock-in the spine in 2017 and then use the remaining funds in 2018 to buy experienced forwards to support the likes of Tedesco , Moses, maybe Brooks and Liddell. To me this means no matter how the cards fall in 2017 there is no way we will dramatically improve on 2016 and will probably go backwards. People who say we have the squad to do it now are dreaming and it wouldn't matter who the coach is or was in 2017 as we just don't have the grunt on board now and can't afford to buy it at the moment. Just take a look at what the top 8 teams have on board now and compare it to us. Lawrence, Grant , ET, Ava , Aloia, Edwards, Lovett, MKC All respectable backkups but no where near the level required and imo there is no way any of the Intrust or NYC guys can move straight to NRL and have a big impact.

Good post.

I completely agree. I don't care about these we are in a rebuilding phase lines. We were in a rebuilding phase in 05 and we won the comp.

How about we just try and win the comp next year. If we do great. If we don't but we have a good season that is great too.

Next year will be the year.

It will be the third year of the original plan put in place by the majority independent board, which upon the new agreement with a helping hand from Wests this year is now settled.

It will be the year when we finally sort out our problem with facilities.

It will be the year in which our top line juniors decide their and our future. I think all will stay.

It will be the last year that we are hamstrung from the retention decisions of the previous board and CEO. May have the 2018 option given to Sirro as a headache, but it will be minor compared to the cap amount that year.

I also think it will be the year when we go into the final round/s knowing we are playing finals footy and the one in which a fair few on here are going to be really disappointed early on when the coach extends his stay.

Lastly, it will be Farah free.

Well if all that happens in one season FG, then the coach can stay forever!
