Jason Taylor on replacing Robbie Farah and the future of Mitch Moses and James Tedesco

Making the finals may not necessarily save him either, it will be the absolute minimum for him to retain his job however. We need to make the finals and be competitive.

I said this before and I'll restate it. I think we've seen enough of JT to state that he isn't the right person for the job. I'd be getting rid of him next year no matter what.

That isn't stating that a new coach will definitely be a better option than Taylor. It's just stating that the right approach now is to try a different coach based on how he has performed.

I still think that Taylor or any other coach can coach us to a really good season next year and in subsequent seasons.

Even if we win the grand final?

This is a good question. I just don't think it's worth the risk of waiting until that point.

I honestly reckon we'll have a good season next year if we get a decent run with injuries. I don't think we are going to have another season like the last two.

I think what the big four decide to do will make or break Taylor even more than results in 2017\. If they all resign and endorse him the club will extend Taylor's contract. Of course if they up and leave Taylor's job would be out the window

100% agree. The big concern without a guaranteed alternative if JT is a factor in their decision to stay or go - leaves other clubs in a much better position to lure them.

(hypothetically) You would hope that if they were going to leave because of JT that they would communicate that to the club before signing elsewhere. However can we afford to or not to allow players to dictate such terms to the club.

Because apparently RF and BM did that and subsequently copped the ire from the media and the fans.

I guess then it's a decision for the board to decide who is more valuable to the club going forward. Don't think we would be the first club to have to make that sort of call - and no value making it after the players are signed elsewhere.
Choosing to play under the guidance of another coach doesn't mean they are dictating terms to the club it means they are considering what's best for their career. The club is going have to sell it pretty well to retain Moses Teddy and Woods because the competition to get their signatures is going to be fierce and in most cases it will be opposing coaches who will be largely part of the negotiating process.

Would it be dictating terms if say Tedesco and Moses would re-sign if Taylor remains Coach…

I think the signings may not take place as quick as we the fans may like , Mosses , Woods , Teddy , Brooks may wait and see how we are going after 10 rounds , and also look to see who we may be adding to our team for 2018 , 10 rounds played and we have 7 out of 10 wins will be a real plus for them and the coach , also by this time there may be a name or 2 out there on new players coming , but we must also expect that one or 2 of them may leave , nothing is set in stone , and if we start bad with 7 losses out of 10 the coach will be in a spot of bother I think , biggest problem with any signings is we can find out anything now on next season , ET , Idrus , not official still , Word around Sirro is going , and pre season is 2 weeks away

Maybe 8th would be borderline, but bearing in mind we'd have to find a new coach pretty quickly if we just sneak into the finals and do a Titans.

I'd say 6th or maybe 7th or better and they'll offer him a new 2 year deal. His argument would be sound enough - first finals since 2011 and improved ladder position every year he's been in charge.

I hope for the sake of our club that we are 7 from 10 cause it will put us in good place to sign the 4.

If we are 3 from 10 it will be horrible cause the players will start looking elsewhere unless we can assure them that in 2018 we will have x y z players and so and so coach coming and that may get them to stay.

I think they'll make up their minds well before round 10\. If the club is serious, they won't let it drag that long. I'm expecting to hear news before round 1.

That would be outstanding!

After reading all the different threads discussing the issues it seems to me the plan is to try and lock-in the spine in 2017 and then use the remaining funds in 2018 to buy experienced forwards to support the likes of Tedesco , Moses, maybe Brooks and Liddell. To me this means no matter how the cards fall in 2017 there is no way we will dramatically improve on 2016 and will probably go backwards. People who say we have the squad to do it now are dreaming and it wouldn't matter who the coach is or was in 2017 as we just don't have the grunt on board now and can't afford to buy it at the moment. Just take a look at what the top 8 teams have on board now and compare it to us. Lawrence, Grant , ET, Ava , Aloia, Edwards, Lovett, MKC All respectable backkups but no where near the level required and imo there is no way any of the Intrust or NYC guys can move straight to NRL and have a big impact.

A well managed club would do exactly that lets hope they are working on it now

Managers will likely be advising they dont rush into anything…all o/c and offers will be plenty youd think

Pretty much the way I see it. They may make some small steps in the right direction but the way I see it our pack has p[lenty of big steps to make

I hope GRN is correct and they come out with some good solid news before round one , maybe this is why we are hearing nothing now , the club could be well into making up the offers for the main guys ! Woods , Teddy , Mosses , Brooks , this may explain no news on ET , Jamal may be offered a deal pending Injury and Fitness and also commitment so it may be announced at the end of pre season giving him plenty of time to meet what the West Tigers coach and Board may want from him , The ET hold up is a bit disappointing but it could already be done and the Wests Tigers may want to make group Announcements on players re signed , Woods and ET , then Mosses and Brooks , , The Coach part of the plan for the players I'm not sure if it is a hold up , will he stay or be Punted ,, I think they would know that if the 4 of them are playing great Footy at the same time we can be a very competative side , my Concern is if they do hang out and one leaves we then I have to start chasing players , good players to replace say Mosses ( Roosters Rumour ) but I hope it's all done before round one so we can get on with chasing a spot in the 8 next season

x3 I don't have great expectations for next year, JT or no JT.

It is fair enough that some fans support our team but not our coach.
But to boo JT when he walks out onto the field or is shown on the big screen is just pathetic IMO.

X4\. Disrespect for their coach by some WT fans during matches is a very bad look for the club, doesn't engender confidence into the WT players and in the eyes of fans from other club makes the club look like rubbish.

Yeah my hopes arent high. Not enough punch from our pack especially our back row. Id be running Sue on an edge and have Felise in the prop rotation .

And bring Ava into the starting side. He deserves a shot at being in the starting side, plus it gives the starting side some muscle. Aloiai can go back to the bench.
