Recommend anyone interested in this to go to link on the first post of the thread & listen to the market watch podcast where Pascoe is interviewed.

He comes on at about 13.30 into it so you can skip to that point .

I would not be signing him now. I am not bagging him, but he has not shown enough in the 2 seasons he has been here to get offered an extension.

I'll bag him. He has been really poor over the last two seasons. A contract extension is crazy talk.

If the team performs really well next year then I'd have no problems with retaining him.

what if the big 4 want to know that JT will continue to be their coach for them to re-sign without talking to other clubs? and that's why he might get an early extension??

You can sign him for 100 years if you structure the contract effectively with termination clauses…

This could be a smart ploy from Pascoe, to deliver the message of stability in the express hope of securing 1-2 of the 4's signatures before the start of 2017.

If he is successful in getting those signatures early, it puts the club in a stronger position to signing the others or new talent to replace them with?!

Exactly….

I think the shock is that the quartet may actually want to play under Taylor,,,

Cowboys did a similar thing with Henry at the start of 2013 re-signed Thurston and Scott by June they weren't performing ..Henry was shown the door..

It's all about positioning the direction..

We need stability throughout the club, JT deserves a shot at an extension

We need to win some more games. JT does deserve a shot at an extension. Top 4 next year and he gets extended. Top 8 and the club should assess the overall performance and then decide. Another poor year and he should be sacked.

I think that is more than fair. 2 years of underperformance and way too much drama does not mean that JT deserves an extension.

Who cares ? When Robbie supposedly says anything like this he is lynched.

On the flip side re-sign him and state he needs to meet the clubs 5 year plan. You could sack him at any point based on that.

I would like to make just three points.

The first, that he deserves the coaching job for 2017 for two reasons, he is contracted to the job for next year and I think he did enough with what he had this year to be granted the full year, next year.

What if the four players, Tedesco, Moses, Woods and Brooks (or maybe five with ET) want a guarantee that JT will be the coach for another 2 or three years. It would be a reasonable ask by them, if they are to sign with Wests Tigers for another three years. Do we say no - he is signed for next year and we'll look at how he is going half way through 2017\. Then watch them sign with other clubs because we cannot make any guarantees. If they don't want JT to be the coach or they don't care then we don't have that problem.

The third which Hobbo brought up (even though he is just about over this team) that JT kept picking the same poor players every week. Maybe, just maybe it may have been because of the second tier salary cap restrictions. Can you say it definitely wasn't Hobbo?

Interesting listen. Definitely highlights that Teddy, Broses & Woods are the future of this club. Also that Woods would prefer fish & chips over Cafe Sydney!!

Pascoe mentioned this was an opportunity for him to get their views on 2016\. I wonder if this included their view on JT as future coach?

So, so funny…..after they finished 9th, an extension was always on the cards....

Let's face it, 9th is a good year for us!

Coming out of the salary cap mess that had its origins in 2012, the messy exit from Sheens, instability after Potter left…..9th, or more specifically, to need to win the last game to make the finals, is not that bad. From the press releases, it appears the CEO and Board seem to at least think the team is going in the right direction.

Said it before....extend JT now and you get him cheap. It could just be a simple matter of extending his contract for one year (to end of 2018) as an option in the club's favour. The issue for the club is that if the team is coasting in the top 8 midway through next season and the "big 4" are firing andf all give their preference to stay with JT as coach, then JT's price will be much higher.

Get him cheap now and get some further stability

'Pascoe admits that wins and losses will always hold the key to Taylor’s future, but pointed to the improvement from the club’s young talent as proof of Taylor’s own development as a coach.

“It showed **in the second half of this year that he’s really evolved** not just as an individual, but as a coach his skillset and capability around **being able to determine a game plan that now suits the level of talent we have on the park**,” Pascoe said.

“(That) has been **demonstrated by the free flowing football**.

“**He still has a significant emphasis on the defence** and we’re continually putting the structures around Jason and his coaching staff to give him best opportunity.”

So it took a year and a half to determine suitable game plans - obviously based on free flowing football.
The emphasis on defence is still a work in progress …. maybe another year and a half should do it to fix that.
I think the improvement from our young talent came from the maturing as players and not much to do with Taylor.
Why not sign him up for a longer stint - as usual we are happy with mediocrity.

It would be total insanity to give JT an extension before next season and even more so if it was because the players pushed for it(have we learned nothing about players supposedly running the club).Next year is a make or break year and any contract extension after 2017 should not be because the players like him it has to be strictly enforced on a KPI basis. If it was me i would have assessments on the teams performance every 8 rounds and JT advised that anything below top 6 is unacceptable and he is gone.I doubt any club is going to sneak in and grab him off us which is why he needs to be continually evaluated every 8 rounds.
The lunatics have run this asylum for too long it has to stop and people being made accountable.

Only Woods and Tedesco should be resigned now.
JT only after mid year results permitting.
And we have already spent enough on out 2 young halves with little to show.
Hard to see anyone paying more than we pay now so wait.
Brooks needs work and even Moses may not be a long term answer. With arguably the worst kicking in general play of regular NRL kickers and the most missed tackles got a long way to go.
For a bit more we could have a player like bbqing Maloney and he may be on rhe podium this year.
Same goes for the other guy we let godown Canberra way.

That's what I was thinking too , CEO having a lunch with the key players coming off contract . No doubt the topic of coach would've been discussed .

This club gets more insane by the minute. They will extend his contract then try to axe him shortly after,
What's the rush no one else is chasing him.We can't let the players pull the string's we just finished with that saga.

This is surely a Gee up if the Club has plans to extend JT's Contract past next year already .

After this year and how close we were in playing semi final footy and the dramas we had…..JT can Coach his final year of his Contract with no distractions , but seriously bottom line is we haven't made the 8 the last 2 years his been in charge and our Defence is abysmal something he prided on when he 1st took the Job.

It would be Ludicrous to extend past next year without seeing how we have done before Round 16 at least IMO..... what's the rush in signing our Coach for 2018 ? do the players continue to run our Club ?

You give Woods , Teddy and Moses there worth and show them our recruiting plan and they will stay, if not we have the dollars to chase other players on the market .

The Questions i'm intrigued with going by this Article.....

# Did these Main players that Pascoe mentioned really supported Farah ? cause if they are Hell bent playing under JT in years to come ? then they would of been happy the way he went about Ousting Farah and the players most probably wanted Farah gone from the side is my guess .

# How silly will the Club look if they extend JT's deal and fail miserably next year ?

# Nothing has been achieved to Date while under JT's Coaching ( Playing Semi Final Footy ).

If Pascoe makes a recommendation to extend JT's Coaching past next year and we fail to make the 8 next year ? then Pascoe must Sack himself by the end of next year , if these are the Conditions go ahead Mr Pascoe :unamused:

for the first time - everrrrrrrrr - i think its a good move by the club to publicly comment that it wants to lock him down for 2017, only !

i still dont believe he is the best option out there for this young team BUT, the club needs stability and it needs to be openly demonstrating that it is doing everything it can to GET STABLE !

none of them have any more excuses !

I laughed and relived the Farah thread when I read the title of this one, thinking of some sharpening their knives and others reaching for razors.

No problem with an extension that carries specific performance clauses, particularly if the playing group are generally content.

I would think if three or more of the big four said they were a 100% behind Taylor you would give him a extension with plenty of KPI's built into it. four top players are way harder to replace and have way more influence on winning games than the coach.
