Who is Iverson?
Appears that 2023 Canterbury SG Ball halfback and NRL Development Player Iverson Matai has joined WT immediately and will make his Flegg debut off the bench this weekend.

A promising halfback, Matai was awarded the Sydney East Blue in 2021 for excellence, leadership and values in the sport of rugby league during his last year at Endeavour Sports High School. A cool head with the ball in his hands, Matai has shown his poised kicking game and great passing ability throughout the SG Ball competition.

Any idea why any of those guys aren't listed for the game? I thought they'd be a shoe in to help our Flegg team
Laulili'i possibly still injured as he pulled out of the city vs country game last week, but not sure about the other 2. Fa'agutu was named to make his debut before the bye and then they changed the team and he made way for Matamua to get some minutes. Hopefully he is in the team sooner rather than later as he proved in QLD last year that he is ready for higher levels (even made his QLD Cup debut).

Hoping some late changes happen on the bench!

It would be nice to know who is playing. Who were the players today wearing 22 and 23?
Kirk not there, no Da Silva or number 14?

#22 was Da Silva, #23 was Jackson Owen.

You can get team lists on NSWRL website.

Also from the actual WT website https://www.weststigers.com.au/ just go to the "Draw" page from the shortcut on the left. From there, in the Competition drop down list select "Jersey Flegg" and that takes you to the Match Centre list for all Tigers games in the season in that comp.

The Competition drop-down includes every competition type from Andrew Johns Cup through to 1sts.

Good to see Feledy bag a couple of tries today. Hopefully he can get a run in NSW cup soon.

Questions for those in the know like @KingRobbie and/or anyone who went to the game:
**How did Feledy go (other than the 2 pies), was he the better centre on the day?
**I know Compton had wraps on him, but how has he been going this year?
** How’d Tannous go back in the halves this year? Why is that, he was moved to hooker last year and was doing well, why back to 5/8?
** How’d Zane go?
** How’d Iverson Matai go? Who did he replace? How much game time did he get?
** How’d Tumeth go? I would expect him to be confident and dominant in this grade since his nrl debut, was that the case?
** How’d Da Silva go? How much game time did he get?
** How has Ghantous been going this year? Will Da Silva leapfrog him this year?
** What was the story with the late inclusion of Jackson Owen ?
** Is Trey Peni any good at fullback? Will he make nrl?
Thanks.

Didn’t go to/watch the game but can probably answer a few of those questions.

Feledy seems to be improving week-by-week at this level, which is good.

He has five tries in seven games in Flegg this year now, so it’s impressive to see him keep up a good try-scoring rate when he’s playing up an age group.

Fuatimau has gone pretty well, has good strength and power but don’t think he’s a future NRL player.

Tannous might be back in the halves because Da Silva is progressing through the grades pretty quickly at the moment.

Don’t think Camroux is a future NRL player either.

Matai only got about five or so minutes at the end of the game; they’ll probably ease him into it, as he’s also playing up a grade.

Da Silva is probably the best prospect coming through in the entire club at the moment; he got about half an hour of game-time (for context, Flegg games are 35-minute halves) and scored a try.

Ghantous likely isn’t a future NRL player and yes, Da Silva could jump him to be the starting Flegg hooker by years end.

Owen wasn’t a late inclusion, jersey numbers and printing new ones week-to-week aren’t the most consistent in lower grades, so he’s worn #23 for a lot of the year.

Peni has been hot and cold this year and was dropped at one stage; again, don’t think he’s a future NRL player.

Harrison Henson; is tall and fast, run down a rabbit who had a big start and looked like a certain try.
Zane Camroux; is our goal kicker and has a big boot in general play, but disappears when time to defend. Don't expect him to progress.
Tannous: Was a half, moved to hooker last year and 5/8 today? Fast for short sprints, better suited to half I think, but Zane has a mortgage on it?
Ghantous: Short and stocky, not the usual hooker build but had a good game
John Tuipulotu; Has the right build, lean and big, to go further with longer minutes, a good motor.
Tray Lolesio; Pole like build and runs hard, good prospect, progressing well.
Herman Tofaeono; From QLD and been with Tigers a few seasons. Another big sucker who is progressing well and must have settled into Sydney OK.

Thanks mate, @KingRobbie.
**So do you reckon Feledy is the best centre prospect coming through then?
**And what about Tannous, he’s been with the club a few years now and played well in whatever position they’ve asked of him, what do you think the plans are for him.

Thanks @Tiger Stripes for the reply.
So a few good props coming through then, what about Tumeth has he been dominant in this grade since back from debut in nrl?

Thanks mate, @KingRobbie.

Yeah, Feledy would probably be the best centre prospect coming through our system at this stage.

I’m just not totally sure Tannous is going to make it to be honest, he’s gotten a bunch of injuries at the wrong times which would have affected his development.

Hope he proves me wrong.

Based on the highlights, if he only played 5 minutes, he managed to make an impact in that time. Dug deep into the line and a nice pass to Camroux which gave him plenty of space to set up a try for Peni.

So with a lot of young props coming in to the fold for Flegg is there anywhere to fit Faagutu in there or are we just biding our time with him?
To me it shows a lack of balance with our recruitments.

At prop, the prospects we have: Tuipolutu, Tofaeono, Sukkar, Miller, Faagatu.
And at lock theres Laulilii as well, though faagatu played most of his schoolboys as a lock/second row and only moved to prop after joining us. Nicholas has done a decent job but i don't see him having the size to progress as a lock.

Yet second row prospects are pretty blank. Maybe eventually Galvin if he can put on weight. Zac Clarke will progress to Flegg maybe next year too. Most likely is we'll need to start transitioning Tuipolutu to second row, he has the athletecism for it too (but not 80 mins at this stage) and possibly Faagatu too.

Towards the end of the season we may see a pack in Flegg of

Sukkar
Da Silva
Miller
Tuipolutu
Faagatu
Laulilii

with Herman off the bench for impact, and Nicholas for enthusiasm/work rate. Vaihu may get a run off the bench

Now that's a pack full of size, power and skill and gives all our prospects the game time we need. With a few rotations, and some possible promotions to NSW Cup along the way (Da Silva, Laulilii and Faagatu the most likely)

Thanks mate, @KingRobbie.

At centre we have Feledy who's in the right place, right time and has a knack for scoring tries from 5m out, but he needs to show more. A bit concerning if he can't score a try from 20m out or further out. Given how short he is and question marks on his speed, hopefully we start seeing more of him as we get new halves in who can hopefully get the ball to the backs better.

Saukuru is probably currenlty the best centre prospect at and he should be playing flegg ASAP. Tall, strong, fast and skillful. A centre pairing of Feledy and Saukuru would show we are building towards the future, not wasting time on those who've already reached their peak. Maybe a bit harsh, but we need to be more ruthless to get the best out of our juniors. The best players should be playing regardless of age!
Fuatimau, Delle, Kirk and to a lesser extent Peni and Vaihu should be dropped and made to fight for their spots, se how they handle the adversity and whether they can kick on.

Exactly, picking up a dropped ball doesn't fill me with confidence
