Agree for most part V just think Max Taotua was good without tearing it up. Made strong runs out of yardage which the team needed today and was good defensively, the area he needs to work on the most.

Just feel he needs time and with that at least another 5kg of muscle to be a dominant tackle-busting centre.
The Taotua brothers have so much potential based on their size, height, athleticism and aggression, but they always seem to take one step forward and two steps back,
While I agree Max today had some strong carries and didn’t do much wrong defensively, he is playing in a Jersey Flegg competition that at times last season he looked like a man playing amongst boys and was highly dominant.
I was hoping him now being a year older and physically stronger he would take his domination to another level, but today he was just ok nothing special.
Let’s hope he springboards his season to bigger and better things from here and hope that his brother Mitch makes the most of his opportunity as starting second rower for our NSW Cup team on Monday.
I reckon our Jersey Flegg team missed Luani Tuifua off the bench today. In our previous games he has made a big impact off the bench with his size, aggression and power ball running and although Christian Taupau-Moors played ok with some nice offloads, he doesn’t have the power ball running that can really get his team on the front foot just yet.

Good point. Tuifua was a big loss today with his size, impact & aggression. CTM is a head scratcher isn’t he! Makes some good PCM & has a good offload and pass in him but borders on ‘plodder-ville’ with his leg speed. I think if he is to make NRL in a couple of years, he has to work on running the ball harder pure & simple.

I stumbled across a highlight reel on Brookes and, boy, does he have some ability. Incredible broken field running with a good fend. I don't see any Flegg or Ball highlights so I was surprised and impressed. Have to keep and develop this guy!

Compelling stats.

The team put pressure on themselves with handling errors plus our middles need to work on better containing super-sized middles in opposition. They often had to have 4 guys in the tackle giving the Eels dummy-half options to keep the momentum going through the middle.

Why does the club love undersized players? Every time I watch a lower grades games I feel like we are always considerably smaller across the board, middles even our backs. Is it just a coincidence?

I don’t think they were under sized, just the Eels team was willing to run harder and tackle harder.
We have more of a problem with too many players on our books that are happy to plod the first few strides when running the ball and not willing enough to show good defensive line speed to meet the opposing ball runners before they build up too much momentum.

I think you are partly correct - not coincidence, but rather "coin". Some clubs just seem to be able to afford bigger players under their sombreros.

Yep, I dont get it. We just don't understand what it takes to win matches or play first grade. In every grade we're tiny and slow. Just hopeless
