Im starting get excited that it might be true. At $150K its a no brainer and all upside. Ive always liked the Jet. Poor bloke has come from tough beginnings. I really hope he can get it together for his own good and then secondly to take us to glory..

Someone suggested the wing for him. No way, he is an out and out centre. If his opposing man is too far inside, goodnight.

150k on a one year contract would guarantee he rips in.

You’d be surprised to know he & his management came up with that figure along with some little built in incentives.
Not completely signed off yet.

I don’t doubt you are genuine, however given JAC and Aloiai, things change on a dime.

100% agree, some signings in the past have come out of the blue without even a word & others have been all but guaranteed & then completely fallen over.
I’m no messiah, only share what I hear.

Any more news on the super league outside back we were looking at? Also, was that Gebbie at preseason today?

Mentioned in another thread. Staying in SL apparently.

Thanks, just noticed that so deleted the post

That and I read that the second year is in WT favour. I'd be willing to make the second year a decent amount for further incentive. I genuinely like the bloke and would love to see a redemption story that benefits him and the club.

If JTJ does come over I think as a club we should provide him with a complete footy/life support package, which includes mental health and family support services as well as a pathway post footy.

That sort of understanding and empathy will show that we regard all our players as more than just on-field assets

This is probably pretty absent minded of me, but who's JTJ?

Jimmy the Jet (JTJ), as opposed to JDT (JD Tiger)

This is one signing I think is worth the risk - Jimmy knows it's his last chance knows what Madge is like as a coach, and person. If he can get his head straight, and I truly hope he does, then we've picked up a bargain in terms of strike out wide.

Roberts done deal I’m told.

I’ll drink to that

Agreed. The fact he’s willing to accept a fraction of his previous contracts leads me to believe he knows this is 100% his last chance.

Being such a prodigious talent coming up through the grades, I imagine up until getting the boot from Souths he had never even considered he might need to find a real job so soon. That is a very strong motivation to finally turn things around.

Honest question, who has turned their career around at Wests?

Good players have left and become great players but i cant recall any out of form/last chance players actually doing anything other than being a draw on the cap.

In saying that, worth a gamble I guess not like there is much to pick from at the moment but i fully expect if Wests sign him he will be part of Plodder's Inc.

Scott Prince signed from the scrap heap after a horribly broken leg. Captained us to a premiership.

I get your point though and you’re right. The odds probably aren’t in our favour. But with the terms discussed it can’t really hurt us if it does go wrong.

And everything else aside, we’re about due for a chance in luck with one these type of signings.

This guy we need to look after. I have real concerns for Jimmy, especially post football. The sport sucks you into a reality which just isn’t there once you retire. He has battled demons but always had footy to fall back on, something he knows well. I hope he can prolong his career as long as possible by getting back on track and playing the way we all know he can.

Todd Payten comes to mind. Played his best football, by far, once he came to Wests. Matterson did alright as well.
