Joel Clinton

In a way I am. The post was more directed to those who think we need a top flight signing now, which is almost impossible at this point in time, especially to not get worked over contractually knowing we have our pants down at the moment.

Good then. I agree. Clinton is one of those signings in that if he gets injured or doesn't perform, we aren't bound to him but if he performs well then it's all cream. His signing is no loss really in the situation we're in.

Has Cashmere written all over it!

Please, i love the Cashman but you are comparing a Torana to a Ferrari. A guy who was a fringe first grader at best playing about 50 games compared to a guy who represented Australia and won a premiership. I'm sure he's far from what he was but under the circumstances he wouldn't be the worst signing in the world thats for sure

Clinton > Shackleton > Cashmere

Read this on FB>>>>>>Triple M NRL reporting the weststigers are in talks of signing former Penrith premiership winning forward Joel Clinton.

Clinton Shackleton Cashmere

OK you and MacDougall have talked me into it. We only need him to play 20-25 mins a game. I liked him as a player with Penrith but thought he lacked impact at the Broncos. He is younger than I expected so lets give him a shot.

I agree as well. If Clinton doesn't perform this year he doesn't make the cut next year, simple as that and only minor expenses incurred.

Is 1 game for Australia nearly 10 years ago the best selling point?

Look, its 1 game more then I will ever achieve, but we need to keep things in perspective.

And on an unrelated note, I'd take an SLR5000 over a Dino.

The point is who else is there thats a better option? we can hardly pull a Matt Scott or Ben Hannent out of our arse. Beggers can't be choosers

Who said it needs to be such a huge jump? A park player to a current Origin/Test incumbent? Seriously?

I'd be interested to know just how many people have seen Clinton play a game in the past 4 years….I haven't.

The way you and everyone else seems so opposed to Clinton, it seems like only an Origin player will suffice. Let me ask, name a player thats available who could do a better job than Clinton?

Thats news to me?

Maybe you are just assuming I am on the opposite side of the argument? From my very first post I said it was pointless to say yes/no based on form 5 years ago, and that we should rely on those who have seen him recently.

Ahh neither have I but I am guessing mick potter has seen him play heaps as Clinton was playing in uk where potter was coaching -so if he thinks he is a good buy I imagine he knows more then us

Great point, Potter would have watched him over there, thanks for reminding us.

Or it could have Utai written all over it

I can remember about 3 years ago on this forum the howls of derision on the signing of Utai. I think he turned to be one of our best value signings.

Let's face it we are mid season - there's not a lot on offer. If Buchanan or Woods go down we'll need troops. the guy is a proven first grader albeit been out for a few years. If he is on a incentive based contract there isn't much downside

Age wise you can make a case he's not past it. But last time I saw him playing for the Broncos, I was, er not impressed. Having said that, probably nothing else on offer so why not?
