Joey Leilua #226

I'm over him. The trouble is his brother is a gun and not sure what effect dropping BJ will have on him. Over dumb players and he is top of the list.

Tend to agree with your comment however i don't think Madge will entertain him too long. Contract club option this year needs to play better.

I actually think he is more interested in being a peacock than playing football.
His mind is largely not on the job at hand when he plays. He’s more interested in being the ill disciplined and temperamental ‘tough guy’.
If only he could channel his aggression in a positive way on the field.

Had high hopes for BJ this season, but unfortunately it wasn't a very good start for him.

Would have thought that with the work he has put into his fitness levels over the off season and an opening game against Canberra with so much he needed to prove against his old club and coach, that he would of had a blinder.

The reality is that he isn't a particularly smart football player and that the fears that I had about his arm grabs and defensive issues have come back to haunt me.

I had concerns about the 2 brothers playing on the same side of the field and wondered how that would work out this time.

With next year's contract option being in the club's favour, it's hard to imagine Joey playing NRL with us or anyone else for that matter unless he really finds a way to turn it around.

Had high hopes for this team and was pretty happy with the first 35 minutes of the game. I rate Canberra as a top 4 team on that performance and still have very high hopes for Wests Tigers and think it will take 6 or 7 rounds before we get our combinations sorted and really start to gel.

I know Sutton didn't cost us the game but we never seem to get the rub of the green with anything that resembles a 50/50 call.

That sin binning after the game was over was an absolute joke and I know that I am a one eyed Wests Tigers supporter, but to me it was such an obvious attempt at a square up to make Sutton look impartial.

I thought that a try awarded to Canberra that was eventually disallowed and a Captain's challenge that was upheld were just 2 examples of bad calls by Sutton that made him look stupid.

Anyway, rant over, bring on the Chooks.

I wondered if a post about him would pop up during the game. He is who he is. Total rocks and diamonds.

Successful challenge and a couple of good tackles on our line.

But those passes were a massive mistake and he followed it up by disappearing for the first 20 minutes of the second half. Another effort like that and Talau gets his spot.

When was the last time he pooped out a diamond 💎?

Whatever the spell was, Joey needs to find a way out.

The guy is a moron. Lucy copped a shot early on, and he couldn’t resist having a niggle at the opposition. Wasn’t as bad as last year, but good God, his brother is a big boy. He doesn’t need his brother being a helicopter. And neither does the team.

Hudson Young was the culprit. 10 minutes later, Young took a hit up with Tamou and LL had him covered, BJ comes in and drops his shoulder on to Tamou's head and they get a 6 again. Then early in the second half, Young is at first receiver- BJ rushes in from his wing to put a shot on him- misses and luckily Brooks covers him.

Seriously, the part of the brain that stops you from making impulse choices is missing. You can see these mistakes coming, you hope he doesn't make it!

If I’m the opposition, I’d be making it my mission to target Lucy every week. BJ will cost the side games if his brother cops it enough.

began thinking to myself during the game that has already begun

Not his best game ..... but then our backline just didn’t see enough ball.
I’m NOT going to give him a tar and feather treatment that he may deserve from so many on here.
I’ll reserve my judgement for second half of this year.

I wouldn't be picking him in FG next week.

I dont like dropping players after round 1....its like painting yourself into a corner

Im hoping it was a personal thing v Canberra with BJ but hes still not showing much professionalism

I don’t think BJ was that bad. Not great either poor offload put us under pressure. Reacting to the high shot is not helping him. He stopped a Canberra forward cold and saved a try on our line. I wouldn’t be dropping BJ when AJ was way worse today. Talau probably has to come in as a winger.

BJ needs to learn to carry the ball more, JTJ was not that much better so much for the centre hype, Nofo went missing again against good opposition and can't catch in the air!!!!
Forwards good backs woeful except for Laurie.

The whole backline was disjointed because Brooks and Mbye provided no clean ball and their kicking games were atrocious - Mbye’s grubbed into the in-goal with no bodily around just shows he can’t initiate anything out of the ordinary.
I saw a lot of promise in the new forwards and this all turned against us when they were rested for the likes of McKaely and Packer who both need demoting.
Can’t wait to see Doughe back in the 5/8 role next week and Tuki Simpkin needs to be in the team (replacing Packer).
Poor team selection by Madge to pick Packer over him.
Overall I can still see the promise but Brooks needs to step up and Mbye should book a cruise to the Caribbean or some faraway destination.

At this stage you would not be taking up that contract option in a hurry.

Needs to learn one of the things that they teach 6 year olds. Only pass the ball if the person getting it is in a better position than you.

Our attack was poorly designed against the Raiders. It’s one team you can’t use second man plays and have success they are well drilled. Play form hooker gave our halves zero time and space and whilst we held their forwards well we never got over the top of them either.

It was a game we had to win 14-12 unfortunately we made mistakes and were never going to score more than 2-3 tries against the Raiders.

Don't know how much longer I can give him the benefit of the doubt.

First game of the season, pass for now. No improvements in the next 2-3 weeks, goodbye.

Talau was good when he came on.
