It's time for John grant to play first grade. Lote is to slow grant is the fastest player in the nrl.

Theres a lot more to being a winger than speed.
Wont happen unless Lote injured….and even then.....well....

No its not

Bring through the NYC boys before Grant IMO

What are we basing that Grant is the fastest in the NRL on ??

One race ?? Between a couple of NRL players and a couple or rugby players

I don't understand the hard-on some people have for John Grant? He'd have to be about the 6th in lune for a FG wing spot.

Just no. He is improving all the time but still has alot to work on. If he is around next season and gets a full off season in I would gladly reassess my opinion

You are probably right Smeg; but the way Lote has been going it is tempting to ask what we would be losing. In particular I cannot accept his dropping the ball so regularly. Surely if there is one thing you can ask of a winger, in particular a dual international with a whole career of experience it is that he secures the ball. His fitness levels seem to be improving and he has shown a bit of step still on occasions, but the mistakes keep coming.

What bemuses me most here is the notion that players who are quick in a straight line from a set start are automatically great movers on the field!

Grant does have speed, but it is a speed in which he requires room to utilise his long stride - while his pace off the mark is questionable! Same may be said for Tuqiri at this stage of his career - but he more than makes up for that in reading the game defensively and making hard yards from our own end.

There are a heap of players who are super-quick in sprints - but are never able to show it on the field as they don't have enough footwork to run into space.

It is very similar to any number of players I played with who were monsters in the gym - throwing around huge weights - but were pussycats on the field!

My coaches always spoke of being "gym-strong" versus being "game-strong" - and there were many examples of this with players who struggled with a few reps in the gym but had technique and desire on the field that would see them routinely outmuscle opponents!

The same can be said for speed! While Ben Barba and Jarryd Hayne were both beaten by Grant in the match-race - their "game-speed" is incomparable due to their footwork, rapid acceleration and ability to change direction at full speed.

Grant has potential - but even at our club if all we wanted was speed on the wing - Grant would miss out to Korobiete who has him covered (especially in regards to explosive speed off the mark)!

acceleration is more important than speed in rugby league.

idk how grant plays, but from that highlight reel, he does look good. lote is a class player, though he is looking very uncomfortable out there… i've seen him come up with some dreadful defensive reads and often does not follow lawrence when he goes inside.

however atm, we lack so much speed in our backs atm... that's one of the main reasons imo that we haven't scored as many tries from our own end of the half like last year.. we lack those finishing touches in the set plays from our own end of the half

How many games have you seen Grant play? How many games have you seen Koroibete play?
How many games have you seen Nofoaluma play?

Because it is good to have the commissioner of the ARL in your back pocket.

ba dum tsss

I like Beau in the centers, all thow a good winger he is not a ball hog like Ayshford and looks to pass early, Utai on the bench for impact and promote either Grant, Koro or Nolfaimu.

This comment says it all really. He's got the right attributes, but right now Koroibete and Nofoaluma from the NYC are both in front of Grant should Utai and Lote both end up injured at the same time.

Unfortunately half the OP posts have been solely promoting Grant to get a run in FG without any real knowledge of the players currently in front of him at the club.

From what i've understood he's been out for 6 weeks which explains why the fan club has been so quiet. Now he's back it doesn't take them long. I wonder if theres a payroll

I find this usually happens with every John Grant thread.

I haven't seen any BRET games this year, but I know from experience that a change in sport, no matter how similar they are, always takes time getting used to. From all reports he's still getting used to league, and I'm sure guys like Nofoaluma and Koroibete who have been performing exceptionally well in the 20s for the past two years would have something to say if Grant is picked ahead of them…

On form,can't argue.

I agree with willow!!

How can you possibly compile a form-based argument without comparison??

851 - you are apparently that smart he just sees the word speed and "can't argue" despite NEVER seeing Grant play!

As for the form he refers to - there is no capacity to compare form as NRL/State Cup are completely different propositions! And Grant had several weeks off with boils before his three-try effort at Henson saw him injured!

I believe he can make it - but like smeg - I believe it will take AT LEAST another off-season!

From the current BRET team - despite his defensive issues - Linc Port is younger and is a better LEAGUE prospect!
