Junior Reps 2022

Is it any coincidence we sign a potential lock one week (Peachey) and lose our next up and coming lock (Sykes ) the next. Unbelievable.

I don't think those 2 are related. I think Guyan is more highly rated at lock. In saying that, we shouldn't have all our eggs in one basket and should have kept Sykes because the potential is there.

You should never lose your good ones. Not at the expense of a bloke your not going to win a comp with. ie Peachey

What Juniors do we have have now playing for us in NRL? And we want to keep?

Seyfarth, Liddle and Doueihi. There are others, but it's debatable whether we want to keep them.

Jacob Liddle is a Wyong boy (his father played for the mighty Gosford Townies).

Our first grade juniors are Nofoaluma, Brooks, Seyfarth and Doueihi

True true.

Liddle was recruited and played 20s eh.

Hopefully the next generation coming through chose to stay loyal and we can build much like Penrith did.

Depends how you define junior. Liddle played under 20s for WT for a few years before getting to first grade.

If you define junior as someone who grew up in the area, Benji was not a WT junior.

you could really argue either way as they're very different players. Sykes is in the Liam Fulton or Dallas Johnson mould, whereas Guyan is more like a Cam Murray. the plan was always to stockpile and the depth chart still looks ok, but with Hill, Sykes and potentially Ogden all heading for the exits I'm worried we're going to lose the core group of these kids.

Benji was not a Wests junior, he came from Keebra Park.
I reckon you have to have played in the junior league of the area to qualify as a junior. And usually they play Matt’s, SG Ball etc ...
Liddle played junior reps for the Central Coast Centurions alongside the Saifiti brothers, Adam Keighran etc

Agreed. They should be coming up together.

I hear you
Come through the local grades as compared to join and come through 20s like Liddle and Giles types...e

Either way, be good to keep all our promising youth that's contracted at the club.

Good to see NSWRL promote some good news about the WTs. These boys were a very good side and very well coached.

Shame they didn’t show some of his bone jarring defence. Tough as nails.

Let’s hope they all kick on.

Graduating Ignatius Park fullback Cathane Hill has secured a development contract with the Wests Tigers, setting him on a path towards realising his NRL dream.

The teenage sensation has capitalised on a brilliant Aaron Payne Cup campaign, one in which he cemented himself as a key leader within the boys in blue’s ranks.

And his high school coach Steve Lansley believes his ascent up the rugby league food chain could happen in quick time.

“I think he can rise through the ranks quickly. I see the attributes in Cathane that are vital to being successful in the NRL,” Lansley said.

“He’s got a great aerobic capacity, as a fullback he can get around the park everywhere and fatigue won’t be a problem for him.

“I think the speed of the NRL won’t bother Cathane, he’ll handle the speed of that and as he matures I think he will be ready made for the NRL.”

Hill will link up with fellow Burdekin Roosters product Dudley Dotoi in Tigers’ colours, with the young Kirwan Bears centre also securing a chance to impress the NRL outfit.

It is more than what the talented custodian does with the ball in hand which makes Lansley think he is tailor made for first-grade.

In Ignatius Park’s first clash against St Brendan’s College this year, Hill put his body on the line under a towering bomb, with the proceeding tackle “wiping him out”.

However he rallied and Lansley said it were those selfless characteristics which would make him an asset if and when his opportunity at the top level came.

He said when Hill came into his final year of schoolboys football he challenge the number one to assume greater leadership responsibilities, add size to his frame and increase his involvement.

And he did so emphatically.

“He’s got that personality people like to be around, he attracts people around him. In a team environment they like being around him and that translates off the field,” Lansley said.

“I definitely think Cathane has matured and also he’s realised this is the direction he wants to take. This is a pathway he’s keen on following and is really passionate about. He knew he had to focus and fix up those little thing which he has.

“I’m really excited (for him), it’s a great opportunity that he deserves.”

Train him up, move him on.

Looks like the sign and retain the best juniors philosophy is not working.

Either those signed are not the best, or we can't retain them.

Embarrassing frankly, but nothing new.
