Juniors - Pathways General Discussion

The fact no players went is a very poor reflection on our football operations section and also the club heirarchy in general who should have insisted somebody went.Complete fail both on and off the field. We all know somebody should be accountable for this but we all know the responsible people will be protected as they always are

Wests Tigers today held a kids footy Clinic with the Mindaribba Aboriginal Land Council in the Maitland area. Naturally there were some very excited young tiger cubs looking forward to a great day of footy.
Sadly it ended with lots of very disappointed kids. The Wests Tigers didn’t send any players, not even reserve grade, they just sent a few staff members, needless to say the kids were pretty disappointed.
I get that the season is now over but surely some players were available for one day.
The club needs to encourage young kids to play & to support the Wests Tigers and I don’t think that is how you do that.
Pretty disappointed in the club.
Unbelievable, disappointing.
I wonder if any of these kids are future pathway stars, you know pathways....... it's apparently what WT are going to devote all their time, effort and resources into, to build a better football club. 🤔
We don't know all the facts but at first glance it looks like a poor effort.

Bulldogs have announced Alekolasimi "AJ" Jones (NZ Cub) & Thomas Fisher (Magpies) in their SG Ball squad.

Was mentioned by Sheens a few months ago that he believes WT has the best young spine coming through that he has had at a club. Assuming he is talking about Ali Karnib (fullback), Onitoni Large (5/8), AJ Isdale (halfback) and Tallyn Da Silva (hooker).

Karnib went to the Aus Schoolboys championships in the backrow this year but believe his preferred position is fullback and played there recently in a WT Cubs trial.

Karnib, large and Isdale will all play in Wests HMatts spine in 2023 while would expect SGBall and Flegg for Da Silva. Would tick a lot of boxes for few years off + flagging combinations and development internally + timetable flagged at post Madge presser.

Those guys will be in their prime next decade. Not having a crack at you or Sheens or anyone, it’s just a fact. Nonetheless, if they are that good, we need to retain and develop them. But some good players in the interim would be welcome too!

The issue which is overlooked (often) is that these players are from the Campbelltown/Macarthur area. We typically would have lost these players to the Eels or Roosters but have retained them. Kudos to the club for improvements which have to a large extent gone unnoticed.

Let's just hope Vlandys doesn't push any further with the draft idea.....we are finally embracing and promoting our development pathways and a draft would send all the identified talent elsewhere.

got some brilliantly talented juniors coming into our ranks, but we just need to be patient. Karnib, Large and Isdale are all 16 next year. I doubt we see any of them in regular first grade until 2026. need to be developed properly and given the time they need.

that said, as a campbelltown boy, very excited to see our Wests junior reps sides onfield in a few months. absolutely stacked with talent and potential first graders, providing we keep them and develop.

Tarsha Gale trial postponed until next Tuesday 18th October. Hopefully some better weather is on the cards.

I note Wests 2021 Matthews Cup skipper Tom Fisher has been picked up by Canterbury 😢

A tough as teak second rower, Fisher won the Camden Rams Rising Star Award in 2021 and was a mainstay of the St Gregory’s College pack. 1665432917145.jpeg
