KEITH Galloway is ready to become the first Tigers prop in nearly 20 years to lead NSW into Origin battle - and a Blues legend is backing him to get there.
Galloway, 24, was considered close to a certainty to break into the Blues outfit last season before a knee injury.

As he stepped up his pre-season training with the Tigers yesterday, Galloway was driven by thoughts of emulating Steve "Blocker" Roach by becoming a NSW enforcer.

"The time is right for Keith [to play Origin]," Roach said.

"And I couldn't be happier he's a Tigers man. These days you probably need 50 or 60 games before you find your feet in the front-row. Keith has done that and matured.

"He knows he can do it and I'd love to see him there. He plays straight up the middle and does the same job every week. I enjoy watching him play. Good on the Tigers for sticking with him. They put money in the bank early by getting him across from Cronulla

Galloway's season statistics were better than three of the four NSW hitmen, with the exception of Poore, to further enhance his prospects.

Roach was the last Tigers front-rower to play for the Blues in 1991, while Paul Sironen packed down in the second-row until 1994.

Galloway, who has played 99 NRL games, spoke openly and confidently about trying to take his game to that level.

"I was pretty happy with my form last year and I'm hoping to build on that this year," Galloway said.

"It was disappointing the injury came when it did, but I feel like I've got better with each year.

"I thought I was a hope of Origin last year. If I didn't make it I wouldn't have been too upset, but at the same time I know I would have handled it if I was there. That is my goal this year - to go one better at representative level."

Galloway had left knee surgery mid-season and had more work done after pulling up scratchy at season's end as he trained with the Kangaroos' train-on squad.

Packing down with a classy Tigers pack, including English international Gareth Ellis, Chris Heighington and Jason Cayless, will only help Galloway's cause.

Interestingly, Galloway and Roach both welcomed the prospect of Willie Mason potentially adding further grunt up front for the Tigers.

I love this article, all but the last line…I agree with Keith,,Mason on form , five years back....perfect.
Mason has losted his way big time...the Wests Tigers are better running along without another distraction this season.

Seriously, why would the wooden spooners not keep this man on , for this season...THEIR must be a reason!!!!

Decent article on the Lord of the Rangas. Galloway was certainly playing well enough to play SOO last year except for that knee injury stuffing him up, and given the way he plays, he would have gone well up front in the Blues pack IMO. Hopefully if he has an injury free season then SOO should be on the cards for him this year. Same goes for Lawrence too.

if Big Keith plays good consistent footy, I can't see any real reason why he will not be playing in the rep games.
best of luck for 2010 Keith.
big red, the sight the opposition dread.

Big Sauce would have made the Origin team hands down last year. If he can remain injury free this season he'll be in for sure. He hardly ever gets put on his back when he is tackled, generating nice quick play the balls which Farah capitalises from.

Galloway
Farah
Poore

Keith has provided exceptional return for the clubs investment.

For mine his attitude is best summed up returning from knee problems through Balmain in 2007\. He was dirty for bing pulled off for 5 minutes so the doc could check his knee. Other than that he played the entire game.

All character

An honest, no - nonsense, genuine, no BS 110%er….we couldnt ask for more and hes been one of our best buys

Love big kilo....big red'd look good in blue, would leave those maroons black n purple

Galloway = Blue = DESTINY…..

One Tiger I hope stays injury free in 2010........

Sky Blue up front

Galloway
Farah
Poore or Weyman

Chris Lawrence has to be in contention this year as well, Very Big Very Strong and Very Fast.

Its been a while since we had any serious contention for rep honours

That it has. And with Benji and Ellis rep regulars for their repective countries we are gaining a fair bit of experience for the big games i hope we will be competing in this year!

If Galloway is picked, then Farah is a MUST!!! They complement each other very well.

Wasn't that a funny sight…. It showed his determination to get back into the top squad after being relegated. Fletcher as the assistant coach at the time copped one hell of a spray from the Big Red Machine.
