Ken Maumolo

He did that alot at the Warriors but the challenge was he got less interested as the seasons went on.

Making him captain was a terrible thing, he isn't captain material but in saying that his selection shows exactly what the Wests Tigers are all about (Quoting Madge).

His leadership game was the worst captains performance ever seen and then he backed it up with yesterday's lack of urgency/putting his body on the line performance. 5 rounds in played 2 games, 50% of which if it was a rookie they would be dropped next week for the rest of the year.

In saying that Nofa is actually worse than Ken - we are in all sorts of problems in the backs at the moment.
Completely agree.

I think his selection is indicative of a lack of depth and a lack of leadership in the playing group. I know we’ve got a few injuries but if Madge and the team are serious about setting standards he’d be dropped.

You’re right about our outside backs being a problem. Gildart has been terrible in defence but we’ve got no one to replace him with apart from To’a.

It’s not looking good for us atm.

100%. I actually feel for Madge on this but it's also an issue he has created because we have no one at all stepping up in reggies going pick me, infact we suck in lower grades atm as well. To'a is the exception. He should be picked but we all know next week if everyone is fit he won't be. Even looking at our injuries most people last year weren't fans of AJ or TT either.

Our recruitment strategy has been terrible the last few years and we have no light at the end of the tunnel for this or next season (haven't acquired anyone yet) when it comes to our backline currently either.

I said before he came that Gildart size and lack of experience against bigger size players will be an issue, defensively he will be found out but what I didn't expect was how slow he actually is compared to other NRL backs which shows how slow the ESL really is (because he looked decent there speed wise). I actually think his lack of speed is creating more of a defensive issue for him than the size.

But in saying that I wish all our backs would put in the effort Gildart does, you can see he is at least trying and putting in the effort, he has a high work rate compared to our other backs but he just isn't NRL quality right now.

Maumalo played injured against the knights and hasn't been healthy since.

He's clearly struggling out there.
Watch him closely, any tackle and he looks cooked.

He needs some time off, otherwise he's just going to continue struggling.

More mismanagement.

I think that analysis is spot on and completely agree with you about Gildart’s effort. You can see he is trying and he’s made a few nice cover tackles this season which are basically all effort so the intent is there.

Thats actually a really good point you make about his speed and it’s pretty evident that it’s affecting his defence because a lot of opposition centres have been able to get on his outside. But it’s something I completely missed though and wouldn’t have thought about it until you mentioned it.
