I'm just shocked to see so many journos being nice to us. What's going on here?

They've bashed us and kicked the crap out of us while we have been down for so long that it has caused this downward spiral which we now struggle to recover from.

They are now feeling guilty and would be having trouble sleeping at night and are trying to make amends for their past indiscretions.

Could that be an explanation?

I’m not saying Tim should take over as coach those days are gone but he still has something to offer the game. But I also think Maguire has very few ideas in relation to coaching he might be like Tim ok in other areas

I’m not saying Tim should take over as coach those days are gone but he still has something to offer the game. But I also think Maguire has very few ideas in relation to coaching he might be like Tim ok in other areas

I don’t think Madge locks himself in a room and never asks for opinions? I don’t know, none of us know, except the inner circle.

So why did we get rid of Sheens?

Interesting your comment on Madge, when there was conjecture about re-signing Madge earlier this year, there ex CEO (his name escapes me) said he was sorry they had to let Madge go ( or words to that effect)?

Why was it that before the Storm game, some of us were even believing or hopeful of beating the storm?
And now we have numerous new threads after the game, why weren't these threads and discussions done prior to this game?
The board would have had these discussions many weeks ago when they saw the signs and knew that these type of shameful defeats could happen because some players in key positions just do not have the required skills and mental ability to atchieve consistent desired results,
And the appointment of T Sheens didn't happen overnight, he would have been seen as a part of the solution when the board knew the weaknesses in the key positions of the team many many weeks ago.

Since they sacked Madge their performances have not been great either(No grand finals) and this is with a roster that is better than ours and with the "walking dead" in charge and he is supposed to be one of the best coaches/man managers in the business.

Since they sacked Madge their performances have not been great either(No grand finals) and this is with a roster that is better than ours and with the "walking dead" in charge and he is supposed to be one of the best coaches/man managers in the business.

2015 - 7th knocked our first round (Madge)
2016 - 12th (Madge)
2017 - 12th (Madge)
2018 - 3rd and made prelim final (Seibold)
2019 - 3rd and made prelim final (Bennett)
2020 - 6th and made prelim final (Bennett)
2021 - 4th so far (Bennett)

I would say that's better than "not great".

If I was to pick our biggest problem (and there's a truckload of them), is that we don't seem to sign players on character.

Most players who debut in first grade have the athletic talent to be there - what the most successful players have is character, mental toughness etc

My biggest criticism of Madge is the inconsistency of his media comments and his actions..."we need to be mentally tougher" or "it's not what our club. Is about"...then he goes off and signs James Roberts and we fold under any situation that requires a bit of reslience.

Say what you want about Sheen's, but he always signed and developed players with character. Chris Laurence, Dean Halatau, Chris Heinington...all tough as nails and good guys. Even Benji Marshall - who some don't give him the time of day here - is a stand up guy for the most part and was always up for a challenge....and who knows, maybe Benji, Matheson and Aloai were right? Maybe the club is in a heap and the problem is a lack of character?

At least we know Sheens knows what character looks like and how to develop it. After the last couple of years, I feel like Madge doesn't.

At the moment we are the drunk 19 year old stumbling around in the night club at 2am looking to jag a lady, he doesn’t get too many and the ones he gets don’t often work out too well. We need a makeover and to do some serious maturing as a club. Good luck Sheensy...
