Brooks will start the year at 7, Reynolds at 6, Tui at 1 and Liddle at 9\. Form and injuries will determine any changes throughout the year.

I see it the same way Tacky.

Yes Tacky, you and Russell both have the right opinion regarding Brooks, however I will say,and I don't care how hard you both hammer me,Brooks has been given a great path into NRL because of his spectacular form in NYC and backing from the club…if he was a true talented halfback he would have taken control of this team long ago and even told slimey Moses to move aside and do as he is told, thats what contolling the team is about..to be honest he is a shy kid still coming out of his shell ..if that's what we want then leave him develop for another 3 or 4 years..Thurston got a kick in the arse when the Dogs didn't want him...how far has he gone ??? maybe Brooks needs the same...Iwill leabve you guys to ponder... 😱pen_mouth:

I agree 100%

Brooks has been very lucky. He's a very talented yet inconsistent player. His running game, speed and footwork are let down by the technical side of his game, specifically his game management and short kicking. He has coasted through the NRL so far because of his potential and he's managed to stay in first grade through numerous and fortunate excuses. Wether it was Moses being too dominant, Taylor not being a suitable coach, too many coaching changes, needing a better halves partner or not spending enough time with Cleary.

Brooks has finally run out of excuses and that is why I'm incredibly curious to see how he emerges from this preseason. All things being considered, he is a certainty to start the year at halfback but, that certainly doesn't mean his spot is safe. I really want Brooks to be the best player he can be and the player we need but, I'm not going defend him when he doesn't deserve it.

I fence sat for a long time with Brooks. I gave him the benefit of the doubt for the reasons expressed by Tacky and because of our lack of dominance in the forwards. But watching the last half of this season I just couldn't see him controlling the game. I now doubt that anything can be done to change that unless Coach Cleary has some big remedial plans for the off season. I'm also concerned that, next season, Reynolds will dominate in the halves and Brooks will go back into his shell. I hope I'm wrong because I'd really like to see his game take off.

He's better than Daniel Mortimer. I think Luke has suffered greatly from the instability at the club. Rushed in without the right support. Seems he might be a lazy trainer which would partly explain his inconsistency, he won't improve considerably until his preparation improves.

Obviously Cleary isn't going to wait 'forever' for Brooks to come good - hence a 2 year deal rather than the preferred 4 years that most seem to be under. However, he obviously thinks he can do enough to improve Luke's game which will see him become a solid first grader. I'm content to let the guys who are actually involved in all this to do it their way.
