Lachlan Galvin #277 *Megathread*

Emotion isnt stupid....its not a weakness.

Its pretty clear benji has at times told.him to take a back seat and let galvin do whatever he wants
I'm with you, I think JL was told to take a back seat... there's plenty of times that he just passes to LG and he doesn't look happy playing with him... poker face is what you mostly see from JL while playing with LG

anyway, I did say that LG is overrated... that doesn't mean he can't improve but that's all up to him, he might come good but right now he ain't that good

The other impact on our club caused by Galvin is us losing Onitoni & Ashton Large.

The reported reason Onitoni left in the off-season was the blocked pathway due to Galvin and, of course, Ashton follows.

So the grub has cost us 3 players.
The Large situation is so frustrating.

I thought agreeing to the Galvin extension clause would have been a win-win for both parties. Big Richo fan but very disappointed how he handled that.

What do u know , I happen to know someone very close to benji and we chat nearly every week , I don’t ask him for any info but he does get me some info , I don’t push him for anything as he’s a friend and I don’t want to over step our friendship, so I think I know kore than u
Really? Well the line of BS you are peddling certainly backs that up LMFAO.
So you know someone who knows Benji but you dont ask him for any info, but what you say is all the truth?
Gotcha 👍

Yeah
its crazy eh?
But its what ive seen at times
Ive seen it as well but dont believe it.
It was likely the case last year dont get me wrong.
If it is true at least for the first half a dozen games of this year, maybe they didnt have the balls to pull him up on it? It seems an extraordinarily desperate move to sign a guy who was never staying here.
Luai was adament that he came here to be the "Batman" and not "Robin".
Why would he put up with it?

You talking to me? I hate him and want him gone yesterday. However it’s juvenile to suddenly think as a player he isn’t a loss. Most here seem to think it’s no big deal. Thats after fawning over
him for a year.
Nah I wasn’t talking to you ! And I’ve been pretty consistent with being pro Fainu between the 2 . I was extremely worried when we were talking about a mil for him . He was never worth that . He’s a loss for 750k or less . He’s an albatross around your neck for anything above that .
As for the “he’s 19 , we should take it easy on him “ . I wouldn’t if he was my apprentice . I wouldn’t if he was my son .
Disloyalty , and biting the hand that feeds you , is simply bad karma . He doesn’t have to sign with us , that’s fine , it’s allowing his manager to run a personal vendetta through his contract negotiation , that’s where I draw the issue .
And I 💯 believe that certain people on here , are forever putting the boot into the club on every issue . Especially the guy who’s a cowboys supporter . It shits me to read it . Because I know the truth. And I don’t care if he reads this or not .
So no it wasn’t you !

The 2 props replaced but none of the 2RF's is a concern but the lack of isn't helping, possible KPP (if it ever happens) helps but need at least one more and still need another impact prop in my opinion.

Think Richo is trying hard for more forwards but is all this latest crap making potentials balk, strong possibility.
This should have been sorted months an months ago. Its week 12! They all went in the off season.

You didn't answer my question though.

To answer yours ; yes, I believe we can produce good players. Not as consistently as other systems, obviously, but that's not to say every player would develop better elsewhere by default. There are several factors that would influence that.

I agree, that's not the same, but it's objectively and heavily intertwined. When you're a young, starting first grade player, the first grade coaching staff, and by default the head coach, are the very people in charge of your development, basically exclusively. This follows then, that if you feel you can't develop to your best here, then the coaching staff in charge of that development, most notably the head coach, have insufficient skills to facilitate that development, i.e., 'can't coach'.

It's not that much of a stretch.
He has never said it however it may well be what he meant.
If so, he is right.
Benji is a useless coach.
Its not all his fault - hes had no preparation or training.
If he was behind Sheens getting the chop early though...well you reap what you sew.

The other impact on our club caused by Galvin is us losing Onitoni & Ashton Large.

The reported reason Onitoni left in the off-season was the blocked pathway due to Galvin and, of course, Ashton follows.

So the grub has cost us 3 players.
To be fair Onitoni now projects as a centre , from all reports . Hopefully it’s mitigated by the signing of May and the progression of Makasini . I guess we will see .
But yea , this is why I think the Galvin camp have a lot to answer for . I think they were deceptive the whole way through , and really I guess it’s on richo for not seeing the obvious , that many on here saw ie. Isaac Moses = lying piece of shit . Don’t take anything he says as a foundation . Have contingencies on contingencies .

This should have been sorted months a months ago. Its week 12! They all went in the off season.
Richo came out on a podcast saying he spent half the off season + a couple weeks into the season saying he structured a contract for Galvin which would have implications on a few current players contracts to not even get a look in. No doubt it’s totally farked recruitment.

Losing Galvin mid-season, with the surrounding ugly commentary and conjecture has clearly destabilised the team. Instead of feeling butt hurt I trust that Benji and Richo have a clear, structured approach to recovering effectively. I personally think that we could have taken a more forward approach with the media. I trust that behind the scenes Benji and Richo have not lost focus on fighting for a top 8 finish (whether we have the cattle to get there is a different argument). In order to keep the season on track I think we need to:

1. Control the Narrative. At the moment I think we are letting the media run unchecked and there is sure to be questions among the playing group given the time off.
  • Internal: Be honest with the team; acknowledge Galvin’s release but reinforce belief in the remaining group. Avoid secrecy or rumours festering.
  • External: Keep public statements calm, respectful, and forward-looking. Avoid fueling drama. Protect the club's culture and reputation.
2. Stick to Values
  • Reaffirm the core values of the team. Use Galvin as a tool to strengthen bonds and emphasise that no individual is bigger than the team.
  • Benji needs to get into the ears of Api, Luai and other senior players and have them drive standards and energy internally. Let the team build on “the betrayal”. It can’t be too over the top as no doubt Galvin still has friends in the team.
3. Address the Emotional Fallout
  • Benji needs to have some one on one discussions; especially with TDS and the other junior players. They are likely to be questioning themselves and may also feel angry, confused and betrayed. Let them express their concerns and then move on.
4. Adjust the Game Plan
  • We are not going to replace Galvin with a like for like so we need to adjust the game plans to suit the strengths of the reshuffled lineup. This is likely to take a few weeks to gel so in the meantime we should simplify the game plan. This does not preclude us being innovative or dangerous in attack – it just means we need to take the KISS approach to get combinations developed.
5. Learn and Review
  • Once the dust settles (probably around the next bye) conduct an internal review of the entire situation to include, but not be limited to: contract negotiation, bullying accusations, media engagement and team reaction. Identify issues that need to be fixed, but take it a step further and write it down in a procedure as a guide for what to do, and not to do, next time.
As a fan base: we need to let it go. What is done is done and he isn't coming back. We need to focus on supporting the next man up. While keeping hold of Galvin and making him play Ressies on low $ may make us feel better, maintaining him in and around the club would be like having two good players out injured. He is currently a cancer and needs to be cut out? If he isn't gone by next week - he needs to be stood down from playing duties.

I get it, we are sorely lacking for all this time and they need to be replaced but do we take just anyone.

We missed C Horsborough don't think he sets the world on fire and like Seyfarth causes too many penalties for mine.
K Hetherington nearly had him but madge F us wouldn't have minded him useful.
Rumours of B Laurie as bat would say a big F no.

We have probably approached many more but you can't put them in a headlock and drag them over to the COE.

I'm not discounting that Tim Sheens and friends (i.e. Warren McDonnell, Wayne Lambkin etc) have had some influence to the Galvin & Large families and decision to part ways.

Apparently Sheens & Benji don't get along now, Sheens/WMac had forged a relationship with Moses, obviously WMac & Lambkin at Manly now and Sheens doing something at Westfields now.

I found this quote from Sheens when he 'stood down' at the end of '23 ...

“I came back with a focus on creating stronger pathways and development programs,” Sheens said.

“I am proud of the work accomplished by all involved in the pathways system and of the emerging local talent, in both the men’s and women’s competitions.

“I am extremely proud of what I have been able to do in transitioning Benji into the main role and wish him and the club all the success in the future.”

Yeah I heard that and it concerned me a bit.
I am a nuffie living 1000's of kms away from the action, dont know anyone from either side of the debate personally, yet i easily identified that this kid wasnt going to stay. Im risk adverse by nature and hold degrees in business, project management and complex projects. I would have had several mitigation pathways developed so that when he turned me down, my retort would have been I understand, now I can use that money to bring player X and Y here. Go find a deal with a player swap and we'll let you walk.

For me personally I think we dodged a bullet this reminds me of Luke Brooks all over again.
If Galvin accepted the contract which is way over his market value the club would be hamstrung for a number of years as I just don't see Galvin turning into a million-dollar player,

I think eventually he will be a lock he also knew Latu was always going to be our future 5/8 with Galvin eventually transitioning into the lock role slash hybrid 5/8 like Brad Fitler used to play.

The quicker he moves on the better for all parties involved.

He wasn’t great last year at all.
He is also not as bad as people are saying.
Yes he’s likely rattled, but he’ll thrive in a good setup.
Like many others I was excited they'd found a kid who seemed special. They'd unearthed a gem where other clubs said he'd never make it....

It's pretty damn disappointing.

One thing I did get right is that players never EVER see out their contracts when agitating for a release. Slimy I Mo (I think he's related to Elmo) knows its as simple as fabricating so much of a negative effect on the club that they can't wait to see the back of him.

I don't get how people conduct themselves this way.

Is the transfer fee just cash apart from the salary cap? Why does that benefit the Tigers? If the we can get more money off he salary cap to get a decent player than all good. Not sure how it all works.

Maybe he knew it was only til june/july

You clearly do not understand the meaning of that phrase. I proved you wrong all last year and many times this year. When will you swallow your pride and look at things rationally?

You mean, you had a negative opinion on Galvin (like you do on almost everyone and everything) and I was happy to be optimistic about him after 3 wooden spoons?

When Galvin said he's out, I parked my optimism and chose not to ignore Galvins weaknesses that we were all previously happy to ignore.

Your points about the way he played were right, but it didn't mean that the decision to invest in him to become our future leader was the wrong one. It doesn't mean that those who supported it at the time, were wrong. If we didn't try and just let him go, it would have been worse

Is that an official approach? Ive seen it written on here a lot. Show me where Benji has confirmed that this has been his plan.
Can you show me where it isn't the official approach?
Show me where Benji has confirmed the latter or been critical of JArome for not doing exactly what he asked.. I wont hold my breath...

LOL all conjecture and quite silly stuff to be honest. How on earth can you quanitify either of these sentences?

No he has not been a good off field leader. He started the pile on which has led to a legal warning letter. He looked like a jilted lover at the official presser the week of the contract rejection and then led the team to a very dissappointing loos against the worst team in the comp.
If he wants to be Batman, he needs to STFU and do some god damned work.

Again, this is just BS conjecture. Galvin isnt the sole reason we are playing so poorly. Our severe lack of depth, which will only get worse when he leaves, is catching up with the team. May, Bula and sometimes Turuva have carried this side all year. They are running out of juice.
Oh, you mean a post that said "Team First" after it was reported, that a self entitled little cnt, that Luai has put his ego to the side for, decided to slam the coach and team as not being good enough for him?

And yeah, I can say this, because the players were there and the players know what he said to them when he confronted the team. So unless you were there or can provide official documentation as to what happened - I am happy to believe it was made very fkn clear from Galvin his position and feelings about the club and his future. Prove me wrong.

If you've seen the pre-season footage, "Team First" was sprouted all throughout it.
It isn't offensive
It isn't a pile on top of Galvin.
It's saying we are a united team and we will fight together as a team, no matter what faces us...
Yes, it was an emotional reaction to a team mate talking trash about the team and coach....
But i'd suggest that this is the act of a leader who brought together the rest of the crew and Look at how strong the bond is between them....

You have zero idea what the game plan is. How can you be so arrogant as to use it as an argument? LMFAO.
Zero idea eh, and on a scale of 1-10 what is your knowledge of it?
At what level are you able to comment about a game plan, based on the rules of Tucker?

Its only a 5 year plan if he stays here. He has get out clauses remember? Good leadership would have been nullifying them when this all happened to show the rest of the squad he was committed. Instead he just told them he was. Good leaders operate by example. He is so far just full of hot air.
If he was full of hot air, he wouldn't be playing for the tigers.
Its still a 5 year contract. Has he suggested he's leaving?
Would you have signed a 5 year deal at the tigers without get out clauses, given where the club was at?
He is leading by example by making smart decisions.
If the tigers make the right decisions this year with Latu and future signings, I think you will see Luai remove the clauses (this has been reported in various circles).

Ok. Maybe I should just kick into a 19 year old because Im upset he didnt sign on with us?
What's his age got to do with it? He's an adult. being 19 doesn't excuse you from the law, so why does it excuse him from anything in the NRL?

I mean expecting better from one of the highest paid players in the world is very unfair...wake up!
Expecting better in what sense?
The team is the most united it has been in years (luai).
Tigers can make the top 8, even after losing Galvin mid season causing the disruption he did.

Based on what your position, If we are doing this well and this is without Luai putting in, then we should be top 4?
