Lachlan Galvin #277 *Megathread*

Is the transfer fee just cash apart from the salary cap? Why does that benefit the Tigers? If the we can get more money off he salary cap to get a decent player than all good. Not sure how it all works.
Will only benefit financially. Apparently it comes off a soft “operations” cap.

His unpaid wages for the year will come off the cap and frees up a roster spot. I’m not confident (just specualtion) in a player swap this close to June 30 which seems to be the goal…

Like many others I was excited they'd found a kid who seemed special. They'd unearthed a gem where other clubs said he'd never make it....

It's pretty damn disappointing.

One thing I did get right is that players never EVER see out their contracts when agitating for a release. Slimy I Mo (I think he's related to Elmo) knows its as simple as fabricating so much of a negative effect on the club that they can't wait to see the back of him.

I don't get how people conduct themselves this way.
I sometimes wonder if the club hadnt told us of this contract development back in April, at least not straight away, would things have turned out like this? Its probably likely...
I was talking earlier about mitigation strategies...Richo didnt have any, yet Moses did. As soon as the shit hit the fan, and the narrative that this kid and his manager were arseholes was introduced, he played one of them. Richo was outmanourvered again.
How do you prove someone wasnt bullied in this day and age? I dont think its possible to. If we live in a time where grown men can convince people that they are actually women, then surely a white teenage boy can convince the masses that a group of A type personality, fully grown Polynesian men are bullying him is true?
Moses is a slimy prick, but he is good at his job and lets not forget, he is taking a financial hit by making this move. Its in his best interests as a business man to have signed our contract.

Yeah I heard that and it concerned me a bit.
I am a nuffie living 1000's of kms away from the action, dont know anyone from either side of the debate personally, yet i easily identified that this kid wasnt going to stay. Im risk adverse by nature and hold degrees in business, project management and complex projects. I would have had several mitigation pathways developed so that when he turned me down, my retort would have been I understand, now I can use that money to bring player X and Y here. Go find a deal with a player swap and we'll let you walk.
Yeah, we all wish you were running the programme.

You mean, you had a negative opinion on Galvin (like you do on almost everyone and everything) and I was happy to be optimistic about him after 3 wooden spoons? When Galvin said he's out, I parked my optimism and chose not to ignore Galvins weaknesses that we were all previously happy to ignore. Your points about the way he played were right, but it didn't mean that the decision to invest in him to become our future leader was the wrong one. It doesn't mean that those who supported it at the time, were wrong. If we didn't try and just let him go, it would have been worse
We didnt invest him in any way whatsoever. We let him have free reign and he drowned. Put your ego to the side and think about it. Had we brought him through as we did TDS, with an eye towards partnering and being the right hand man of Luai this year, would the opinions of his camp have changed? I say yes and thats based upon the claim that the reason he is leaving is because he isnt being developed properly to be the best he can be.
Can you show me where it isn't the official approach?
Show me where Benji has confirmed the latter or been critical of JArome for not doing exactly what he asked.. I wont hold my breath...
Thats not an answer at all. YOU made the claim that he is following a game plan. The onus is on you to prove it.
Oh, you mean a post that said "Team First" after it was reported, that a self entitled little cnt, that Luai has put his ego to the side for, decided to slam the coach and team as not being good enough for him?
This is all opinionated and overly emotional drivel. Its the sort of crap an ex girlfriend goes on with.
And yeah, I can say this, because the players were there and the players know what he said to them when he confronted the team. So unless you were there or can provide official documentation as to what happened - I am happy to believe it was made very fkn clear from Galvin his position and feelings about the club and his future. Prove me wrong.
He made it clear he was moving on. Thats not the crime of the century no matter how much you cry about it.
If you've seen the pre-season footage, "Team First" was sprouted all throughout it.
It isn't offensive
It isn't a pile on top of Galvin.
It's saying we are a united team and we will fight together as a team, no matter what faces us...
Yes, it was an emotional reaction to a team mate talking trash about the team and coach....
But i'd suggest that this is the act of a leader who brought together the rest of the crew and Look at how strong the bond is between them....
Both Benji and Richo have stated at different times that he never said Benji cant coach, that he never talked trash about the coach or team. You have believed what you read on a forum somewhere and taken it as gospel. An experienced professional like Luai should not have led the charge against a kid. It opens the possibility of accusations of ....you guessed it...BULLYING. Shock horror.
Zero idea eh, and on a scale of 1-10 what is your knowledge of it?
At what level are you able to comment about a game plan, based on the rules of Tucker?
Once again, YOU are the one claiming you have information and/or understanding on this topic. I have never claimed to. The onus is on you.
If he was full of hot air, he wouldn't be playing for the tigers.
Its still a 5 year contract. Has he suggested he's leaving?
Would you have signed a 5 year deal at the tigers without get out clauses, given where the club was at?
He is leading by example by making smart decisions.
If the tigers make the right decisions this year with Latu and future signings, I think you will see Luai remove the clauses (this has been reported in various circles).
Of course he is full of hot air. He talks a big game then plays like a disinterested passenger. He has done it most of his career IMO.
No I dont think you understand real leadership. When he was slamming Galvin, he should have done it as a show of committment to his team. He didnt, and thats weak.
What's his age got to do with it? He's an adult. being 19 doesn't excuse you from the law, so why does it excuse him from anything in the NRL?
It doesnt and I told you this many times last year when you were using his age as an excuse. The point is though, you are more than happy to do this rather than think rationally.
Expecting better in what sense?
The team is the most united it has been in years (luai).
Tigers can make the top 8, even after losing Galvin mid season causing the disruption he did.
Maybe. I think theyre heading for a cliff personally. Lets see how it plays out before we judge.

Yeah. Well we need a centre and 2nd rower. Not sure what the May situation is doing but our backline needs a bit more defensive starch

What a moron.

Based on what your position, If we are doing this well and this is without Luai putting in, then we should be top 4?
Doing “a Tucker” on Tucker.

Love it.

Tucker is Galvin’s dad for sure.

I am hopeful that the optics with letting Galvin going so easily is related to the retention of Jahream Bula and a relatively smooth contract negotiation…I might Jareaming but I live in hope we can get something right.

Anyone who thinks Galvin will go to dogs or Parra and play reserve grade rest of year are kidding , Daddy won’t allow his son to play reserves , no chance , maybe for a week or 2 but rest of year no chance , DADDY WANTS HIM TO BE THE GUN IN THE TEAM , just like he always has , when this blows up on the Galvins point to the parents not the kid , he has been advised poorly , he could have built a great set up here with Luai and API , we have May who is one of the top 4 props going around , Pole improving , Toa improving Bulla improving , Turuva improving , Skelton improving that’s 8 players getting better and apparently 3 to come , we will be ahead of Parra this year and even further ahead next year , dogs he would need to earn his spot every week and fitness alone won’t cut it , plus he will play second fiddle to more than Luai , he has way more better and senior over him there , good luck I say , and move on before next weekend , and Richo gives us the names who you say you have locked up or was it the girls mentioned already for the NRLW team
I once got talking to cheating children who, without prompting, dumped their father in it and blamed him rightly for making them cheat. The father was the king cheat but the kids eventually grew up and turned on him. Considering Lachie will cop all of it, the parent/s will eventually get their karma.

It's disgusting and disgraceful. In most industries it would ruin your reputation and at the first sign of trouble you'd be dumped and unemployable. But not in sport, apparently. Unless he's not that good, in which case karma will catch him.

Chammas reporting Eels and Dogs will offer only $750k per season.

Something is seriously fishy with all this?

His dad is really going to sacrifice all that? To possible go mid season and not be able to play first grade?

Outrageous.

The NRL will rubberstamp it as being perfectly legal and legitimate despite it's very dubious appearance. Many people will not believe it but nothing will be done except a few people will be smiling afterwards

Ironically though, it’s probably about what he’s worth. Even the pundits have said they think he’s a $700-800k player at best. The Tigers offered him overs, bit like Stef. Maybe it’s Richo’s strategy to flush players out who are dicking us around. NRL will have no problem with registering at $750k. If it’s a long term deal though I bet it has ratchets in it. Anyway, who cares. Hope he’s playing park footy in 3 years or retired due to chronic bad haircut.

I’m fully convinced Tucker does these things for engagement & attention & the need to feel different. Don’t forget he’s been bashing Galvin from pillar to post since the kid debuted & is now defending how he’s handled the situation & blaming it on the club,

I remember he did a similar thing with the whole John Bateman situation. Bashed him from pillar to post when he was in a Tigers jersey but when it came time for Bateman to leave he brought out nit picking stats & kept bringing up how he’s a starting forward for England then used it to bash Benji & the club. Strange guy Lol

Substitute NRL for politicians and you will not be far wrong
