OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277 *Released* Career Discussion.

Latu should be our 7, luai our 6, and Galvin 13. Latu straightened our attack and took the line on more in 20 minutes then Galvin has all year .
Agreed. Galvin's biggest strength is his running and energy, which is something he can contribute from 13. In the modern game locks are arguable part of the spine, who's to say we don't innovate and push that to the next level

Front loading is a risk. Come year 3 or 4, the agitation to move on for more money can start.
What's the front loading used for?

Buying a damn house!

Use human psychology. Player will need to start thinking of their future, upping a contract to say 600k and saying "hey that's a pretty good start on a home". Boom they have brought near the club.

But more to the point, front loading makes a stack of sense if your not making the 8 (we wont' be this year and we have cap room).
So take a 500k player.

Back load: Front Load:
400, 450, 550, 600. 600, 500, 450, 450

If a player is actually good, we probably will want to keep them.
We have fronted their salary already and if they turn around and say "hey I want more then 450k"... It's not a big jump to go "well that's a new contract, lets do 550k a year.
If the player is good and we have backloaded them, no diff.

If a player sucks, and we have frontloaded them. It's easier to shift 450k off the team. "hey XXX team, will you take this guy for 250k". we pay 200k

If a player sucks and we have backloaded them. Were on the hook for 600k! We try to offload them it's "Hey take this guy for 350k"? ... "150K?" and our cap takes a huge hit.

Why ruin future years?
If we know we are not making the 8, and heck the last 3 years we would have been lucky to make the top 14... Front load so were stronger for the future. Not back loading so were crippled trying to offload a Klemmer, Bateman, Reynolds, etc.

He can be our Yeo. And I’d love to keep him. I have no issues with us paying him overs, he will be a superstar. I think Latu will be something special too.

Gouldy says LG can't handle a mil a year for a young bloke
In euro football & nba for example some young blokes are earning a million dollars a week 💵

I remember a triple J plug:
"Warning! What you here on this station now, may be pushed as 'new Stuff' on triple M in 12 months time!"*

highly mobile running lock is nothing new now.
Souths really got it right with the Burgess's. Storm have been doing it with King, Penrith too.
Easts kinda used Jake Friend in that role a little. ...

This isn't innovation. Like sure I reckon we should tell Api to bulk up and get him to go Lock while Da Silva goes hooker for a bit. But that's an old idea done by lots of clubs.

Innovation was Benji Marshall in 2005. or what Souths did with playing from the forward pack to score. Or what Cronulla did under Flannagan.

We haven't earned the right to be innovative, yet. We still need to nail down the football basics and really build as a team.

*it was Jet, basically JJJ played them year round then finally the M and other stations caught onto them.

But we don’t need to go the early crow, do we ? Plenty of time to gauge the mood and draft an offer. If possible, I’d back end it so he earns as he grows, and the incentive is there to improve his footy. The Brown deal is a dangerous one, not only for Newy, but for the entire league.
if we don't offer top dollar someone else will, and he'll go. We've won 3 spoons in a row we can't afford to let good players walk.

Market is too crazy now for halves in my opinion

I'm of the opinion I'd rather see how Fainu goes at 6 before throwing the kitchen sink at Galvin, Fainu might not work out better but we won't know if we don't try, other thing is if we ever do decide to move Fainu into the halves what do we say to Galvin. Though if we offer Galvin this 5 year 5 million dollar deal and his team say they want to test the market, Fainu straight into 6, Imo if Galvin does that he's leaving, I won't commit a second to any player that's not committed to us. Why should we keep helping him to develop. Give him the Hodges treatment that Bennett gave him.

But is he worth it, or is it another Brooks
scenario where we jumped in and then carried that problem for some years.
Galvins a talent, but he’s not going to deliver if he hasn’t got good teammates around him. Where do we draw the line ?

The problem with that is that Lachie will play a lot of first receiver at 13 and he doesn’t play direct enough for that (yet). Not sure where he plays but at the moment, his best setup plays has been when he is wide of the ruck and can isolate players.

We draw the line at getting good teammates around him.

Sounds like you’re wiping him before he’s even made a decision.
As for giving Fainu his spot just to see how he goes…. can you name me any other club that drops a spine player from first grade just to see how another bloke goes?

He has had zero impact. The only thing people can say are things like 'energy' which is something that is a collective and shared, not from an individual
That’s fairly wild tbh … he’s had a massive impact on his team mates and I don’t think we’ve had this much fan fare as a group since peak benji

We are easily 1 or 2 plays away from having 4 straight wins and you think he’s offered absolutely nothing?

Just to make it clear Weidler came up with $5mil for 5 years without any
solid source. He said so himself on the footy show last Monday night 24/2.
My guess is he has been on this forum.
The club has not come out with any figures at all.
So these clowns are playing a guessing game.
