Lame Membership Numbers - Whats the fix?

In regards to home grounds, the move can be for money or because the current home grounds have passed their used by date.

LO may be in that category but i think CSS still has a place strategically and is still a suitable facility for NRL.

fans dont have our monetary interests at heart.

its a decision the club MUST make for the long term interest of the wests tigers and the NRL as a whole, shifting away from suburban grounds. The AFL did it years ago, and we are slowly following suit.

well said pHyR3 - Supporters won't have monetary interests at heart. Even the board probably didn't to a large extent and would have been a catalyst for the restructure.

Mayer has been doing an amazing job since he obtained the CEO role. Initiatives like this are evidence of that.

I get seriously disheartened by some of the negativity of so called 'supporters' and like Mayer, I really would like to understand where its coming from. Nothing would please me more than to see every member excited to support and follow their club.

Maybe people just need to realise that general negativity actually achives the opposite of what they are trying to do?

I really hope that Mayer got some measured opinions on Sunday.

Can't knock the club for trying to get to the bottom of its member problems…though some will.

Not difficult to imagine someone with passion enough to become a member and then non renew would probably jump at the chance to air their grievances...get things off their chest

I'm glad the club is taking steps like this..how anyone could criticize it is beyond me

I think the criticism comes from people not being happy in the past with their problems never really being addressed. Know the club wants to listen but it's their turn for it to fall on deaf years. Yes I do understanding Ink the club is changing its ways with a different person in charge. Interesting what will be achieved. Good luck.

I agree their mate…

I think sometimes people expect him to be perfect. No one is... And he will never please everyone.

He is currently doing a hell of a job, and he does attempt to communicate with fans, how many can say we have heard as much from previous management as we have from him?

I think he is a smart operator and am glad he is at the helm of my club

My take is we have too many home grounds and supporters do not want to travel.

Also the cost of living in Sydney must be having an impact.

Performances on the field go a long way as well

Too many Magpie and Balmain Fans and not enough Wests Tigers Fans is the core of the issue here. The club will rip itself apart trying to please either fan base and so it needs to move forward and establish a new fan base of Wests Tigers Supporters.

The low memberhsips reflect this.

Well it looks like the core Balmain and Wests fans aren't turning up anyway, so you are right that the club should just move forward and reduce the heritage focus.

The club honestly has created some cracking memebership deals this year - in particular, the Stadium Aus away game deal. We have a great CEO who is communicating, a coach who doesn't frustrate with team selections and a team that is bringing that Wests Tigers excitement back!!

I don't understand why that simply isn't enough to get people on board and fired up… are people are holding Mayer and Potter responsible for the past??

Members demanded change, we got it. Now it's the members turn to stand up.

So if we move permanently to ANZ, which club represents the MacArthur region ? Mayer said in his video the other day we have a bright future in the MacArthur region and has no intention of cutting the tie. Well if we are not going to play matches there in future years, how can we lay claim to representing the MacArthur region ? In fact who will the Wests Tigers represent in say 10 years time ?

How do the Bulldogs or South Sydney represent their respective areas considering they only play out of ANZ?

That's the unknown moving forward I guess?

How will this impact on these areas, 5,10,15,20 years into the future….

How will the young tigers supporters go, never seeing a live game in their local area.

Will they branch out to other teams, that have the next benji Marshall, rather than supporting from their local origins?

I still believe it should be made a feature, and attempt to have at least 1 game a year at each suburban ground, its gives you the same ultimate goal, but still linking back to those local communities.

It would be quite interesting to know just where the loyalties of those kids now belong, and more importantly, to whom those of the generation that has since followed, now lay.

Allowance must be made for the changing demographic in those areas since the move west, but if it was shown that a larger percentage than normal in a now former traditional area have an allegiance to different team, we must maintain a strong connection with the Macarthur region.

Do we want to be like Bulldogs and Souths ?
Is it sustainable ?

40 thousand members between the clubs says it is. They aren't short of money, supporters, facilities or memberships.

The ANZ move WILL work and it will have to happen. I dont understand your concern whatsoever. That we might not be as closely affiliated with Cambo and Leichardt? I'd rather be around because we have money than another club gone bankrupt.

Your forgetting the Rabbitoh brand has been around for over 100 years and the Canterbury brand since 1947\. The Wests Tigers have only been around since 2000 ….. Hence the lower member numbers. The move to ANZ will only put pressure on the existing members we have. Unless we start to win, which is unlikely without any "new"marquee signings, our future under this model remains very cloudy indeed.

They will be like the kids of Ashfield, Burwood, Lidcombe, Strathfield, Auburn and Granville etc that stopped following Wests when they left Lidcombe in 1986\. They don't just cope they just move on with their lives.

I didn't know of anyone that stopped supporting the Maggie's after the big shove west. Not saying it didn't happen but in my friends/family it seemed logical.
