Lame Membership Numbers - Whats the fix?

not sure where people get the whole for 50$ i am supporting the club no matter what gifts i get. if i pay someone 50$ i make sure that what im getting back is worth the 50$ everyone has different interpretations to that.

if someone just wants to throw away $50- might as well give it to charity. other people need that money and it means more to them than the club.

what?! so how in any way would being a member benefit the tigers if what you received back was of equal value to what you paid?!! places where that happens are called "shops". and even then they are selling for greater than they paid for the goods.

interpretations aside, i don't think you have much of a grasp on why clubs need members….

if you want to look at it that way, then a club membership basically is a charity. like charity, i believe that becoming a member of a sporting team should have at least SOME selflessness to it!

i tell you, i am just shaking my head at this attitude.... :crazy

I'm not asking for equal value.

I pay $50 for 4 cheap items.

That's it. There's nothing else for me. No convenience of having tickets because there's no tickets. No chance to get involved in member only functions with players or club events, none of those experiences that cost the club nothing, but fans would be willing to pay to attend. Thats what justifies the excess amount you pay for membership.

Sorry I'm not as magnificent as you. Sorry I raised what i thought was genuinely pertinent point.

I guess I'm just a [This word has been automatically removed]ing idiot and a shithouse fan eh?

I've been buying memberships for this club for years and not once have I ever felt like I was a part of the club. And every year the membership packages get worse.

Last year they didn't even have a cap and yet charged me more and wouldn't swap my 4 home game tickets for one away game ticket at AAMI Park.

I had no idea that I was supposed to just keep giving them money so as to remain a supporter of the club.

I must have missed that memo.

omg. how much longer are you going to make us suffer?

I'm not asking for equal value.

That's it. There's **nothing else for me**.

i have tried to explain that maybe, just maybe, you might **WANT TO HELP THE CLUB!!!**
you just don't seem to be able to grasp this concept, so i will give up trying.

Sorry I'm not as magnificent as you. Sorry I raised what i thought was genuinely pertinent point.

thats okay; I'm used to people not being as magnificent as i am, so you shouldn't feel bad….

i believe forums should be for people giving freely of their ideas and thoughts without censure, and you have done so. i have put forth a counter to your view and the end result is that you've got your opinion, I've got mine and never the twain shall meet.

NEXT!

"There's nothing else for me." that's the point, it's about supporting the club! why do you think its a supporters membership? why not call it a membership bundle or something if its about the items. The items are extra and promote the club if you use them.

and how can the tigers switch their home tix for another clubs tickets for one person? its not under their jurisdiction. it's like me asking woolies why i cant refund 5 loaves of bread from coles for a bottle of milk.

If a game at another ground isn't a sell out why shouldn't we be able to swap tickets ??

Honestly Sydney based fans have no idea what it is like for fans based interstate or more than 3-4 hours away

shops are businesses and so is our club.

if im getting $10 worth for $50, i wont be paying them $50.

this is why the afl has so many memberships. it doesnt have this culture of 'whats in it for me' they just wanna get behind the club as best they can, if they can afford a platinum membership to every game they get it. if they can afford a 4 game one to cambo they get it. if they are out of town and cant turn up to any games they get a supporters membership to help the club, accept the extras and use them to promote the club further.

all while proudly declaring they are a member of their club. NOT a fair weather supporter.

Edit: i'm not saying you guys are fair weather supporters by the way, just that afl fans think of people who aren't members as fair weather

its not about being coldhearted. you're just approaching the supporters membership with the wrong mindset, it's not a product that you're buying. its not something you can pick up and say I PAID FIFTY DOLLARS FOR THIS.

it's more of a committment, a sign of your committment to the club financially through thick and thin and it shows who you support both through the fact you are a member and the little extras you get. like the cap, and bumper stickers.

on another note, why dont they give those car flags (im pretty sure this is not what theyre called) in the membership packages? great way to promote the club i woulda thought.

Its brought up every year and has been discussed in many threads…

Why is WT membership so low?

I know WT is popular with 200 years of combined history, wide fan base and solid merchandise sale.. But our membership numbers are ordinary.

Would a permanent home ground change fix it? 3 to 2 or 3 to 1?

-No board voting rights?
-3 home grounds?
- Geography, demographic and traffic logistics to multi venues and monday night games?
- muddled territory and brand/identity?

Lets make WT number 1

Member numbers are higher than this time last year and pick up on the run into Xmas. Wests Tigers were first in social media and 3rd in website clicks this year, so imagine we converted those interests to memberships?Other clubs with a larger membership base aren't too far ahead of us. Be patient and show your support, the numbers will come. Go Wests Tigers 2014

I spoke to a manager at the Giants yesterday and she said they have a team of 14 people within Fan Development which includes memberships, engagement, marketing. They had 12000 members last year and their games are split across 8 in Sydney and 4 in Canberra. They are not a successful side on the field but their numbers are better than ours.

I think our numbers might go up this year given you can just buy a LO or CSS or ANZ membership, but if we want to compete with the AFL, we need to put more resources into our membership departments.

You are forgetting that our CEO Grant Mayer was the GM of Commercial operations at GWS and brought over with him a team of commercially sound side-kicks. He knows how to make clubs successful. GWS had an almost un-limited budget as they were and still are a brand new club. So their staff costs are more than their membership takings if you want to compare membership team salary v members revenue, but like I said, those roles are fully subsidised. We are sitting better than them due to the fact we have a proven supporter base, majority self funded and are entering a 15th premiership season with a premiership under our belt.

Close, but not quite.
2500 first week of November 2012…1963 today

Dogs are 3555
Penrith 1364
Roosters 4426

members will get a massive boost if we do well in the 9s tournament.

also is there a comparison for when memberships went on sale and also whether the 2500 figure was from 1st nov or 8th nov?

We've cracked 2000.

5,263.

they are buying VERY heavily into this idea of 'let's support the club the best we can' and building a tribal atmosphere, as though members are a part of something.

and it's paying dividends.

But MU has a valid point Ink

Why should it be a problem for anyone to swap a ticket from ALL clubs for any ground as long as a game isn't sold out

If you could I reckon memberships would increase dramatically for all clubs

You need to think outside the box my dear , THAT is how rugby league will grow memberships in this country

Sydney (despite what many think ) isn't the centre of the universe

because then people can buy tickets from other clubs that are cheaper and use them at our homegrounds or vice versa. it creates a lot of programs and the system hasn't been put in place. you'd need the approval of every club and the NRL. not to mention the question of money, since you paid one club 20 bucks for the ticket but you use it at another's home ground. should that other club get the money?
