Lame Membership Numbers - Whats the fix?

yea, and what are they doing at anz in terms of redevelopment?

cause people like to use the internet outside of home

SYDNEY'S ANZ Stadium could be turned into a fully roofed, rectangular football ground enabling fans to sit on the sidelines under a visionary plan to be unveiled today by Sport Minister Graham Annesley.

The stadium upgrade is outlined in a new video masterplan for Sydney Olympic Park, which also envisages new clubs, bars, restaurants, a gymnasium, pool and a rock climbing wall on ANZ Stadium.

The masterplan, obtained by The Daily Telegraph, comes as the stadium's operators, Stadium Australia Group, push for the state government to commit funds to upgrade the 14-year-old stadium.

They say the stadium must remain competitive with Asian and other Australian venues to ensure Sydney continues to attract major events, such as this month's Manchester United football match which is forecast to pump $16 million into the NSW economy.

Mr Annesley has worked closely with the Sydney Olympic Park Authority and the government architect's office to sharpen the long-term vision for the entertainment precinct, including the creation of the video which includes animation of a roof opening over the stadium.

"This video provides people with an idea of what is possible for the future of Sydney Olympic Park in keeping with the masterplan for the precinct," he told The Daily Telegraph.

"It's a very exciting glimpse of the future as the park continues to evolve as a constant reminder of the wonderful Sydney Olympic legacy left to the people of NSW."

The plan also envisages a new pub opposite The Brewery near the Novotel hotel.

Futuristic photographs of the stadium show how new seats at the try-scoring ends of the stadium would be able to be reconfigured to be pushed closer to the field. Seats on the sidelines are already able to push closer in for league, rugby and soccer matches.

There would also be small changes to improve visibility at cricket and AFL matches.

The stadium, built as an athletics arena for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, is often criticised for not offering enough seats close to the action.

ANZ Stadium managing director Daryl Kerry said the timing of the release of the future vision was significant as Sydney was about to host its biggest month of sport since the Olympics, with the British Lions and State of Origin series deciders, leading to the Manchester United game.

![](http://resources1.news.com.au/images/2013/07/01/1226672/818761-anz-stadium.jpg)

"Combining a roof and moving stands at each end of the stadium to bring fans closer to the action would create an unrivalled atmosphere for the biggest sporting events held in the country," Mr Kerry said. "Imagine if we can move those 15,000 Blatchys Blues fans at State of Origin, or the Terrace Australis (Socceroos) or Wallabies supporters groups, to within 5m of the field?"

The new seating arrangement could mean the stadium's capacity shrinks slightly from 83,500 to about 80,000, depending on the final engineering design.

Canterbury Bulldogs chief executive Todd Greenberg said it was time the government made a new investment at ANZ Stadium. He said a roof and better configured seating were "overdue". "This is Australia's best multi-purpose stadium and Sydney sports fans would really get behind these new plans - it would take us to the next level," he said.

The government hopes the launch of the masterplan video will stimulate new private investment in the precinct.

Its launch comes only months after Stadium Australian Group offered to sell ANZ Stadium back to the government for $100 million.

Mr Annesley backed the move, but Treasury rejected it, leading to doubts about the future viability of the stadium. Stadium Australia is now prepared to fund part of the development if the government commits to a lease extension of about 30 years when its present lease ends in 2031.

"Private enterprise will be working with government to develop a funding model that can deliver this vision for the Stadium in the near term," Mr Kerry said. "There have been suggestions the three major events in July could generate $50 million for the NSW economy so an investment in the stadium is, in effect, an investment in NSW."

The operator will also begin talks with key sporting groups, including the NRL, AFL, ARU, Cricket Australia and Football Federation Australia about funding the upgrade.

Create cheaper entry fees into our home grounds if possible (not sure if ticket pricing is dictated by WT at ANZ and Allianz?).

Better to have more people at our home games, cheaper entry will ensure that. The more people that get to experience a live home game (especially if we have a win) the more they are likely to want to get more involved with the club and become a member. Have WT Marketing staff trawling the local pubs after a victory, people are bound to sign up after a good win and a few schooners.

Maybe look at taking a WT home game interstate. The Bulldogs have announced that they are bringing a game here to West Oz and they will be assured of getting a crowd of 20k just like the Rabbitohs currently do over here every time they play. More national exposure to new audiences would encourage a casual fan to become a member of our club (we already play at around 6 different home grounds it seems so moving 1 game interstate shouldn't be too much of a big deal).

Some good ideas in there F2B ….. I am sure there are plenty of Wests Tigers fans scattered around the country already. Another initiative in conjunction with local sponsors maybe to hand out show bags as you walk through the gates .... Something like a drink, pie coupon and two kids tickets to the next home match .... Something like that with a form to become a member ... There's any number of things marketing could be doing to promote the club.

so freebies if you sign up as a member, or just freebies for turning up to match?

Membership counter is being updated very regularly at the moment. It's up to 1827 now, up 183 in the last week. I like these weekly prizes. This week it is a signed jersey and cap. Encourages people to sign up early and doesn't cost the club much at all.

still pretty slow though…..really should be aiming to pass 5k by xmas and im not sure if that'll happen.

how much do memberships surge before the holidays?

The latter … The idea being to keep them coming back to the point where they enjoy the experience become engaged and ultimately become a member of the club.
Wouldn't it be nice when you walk though the gate rather than being swamped with raffle ticket sellers to have someone hand you something and welcome you to the game.

I would assume there will be a surge before the cut-off for retaining seats, which is 8 November. Then things will probably pick up again when the draw is announced. I think that is some time mid-November.

This year the Wests Tigers have made moves to further alienate their supporter base who doesn't live in Sydney.

I make 1 maybe 2 trips to Sydney every year for footy, and as I work around the corner from AAMI Park, I attend quite a few games there.

My options are to buy a membership with 0 tickets that costs $50 for a pathetic pack containing a sticker, a lanyard, a keyring and a ticket wallet.

I then have to pay $25 for any tickets I want to attend games. If I went to one home game and one game at AAMI, that'd be $100

which is $1 more than the Claws package (4 home games at ANZ), which also has more trinkets in the pack.

Why is it so damn hard for this club to do a simple out of towners package that allows non-Sydney residents the option to 1 home game and 1 away game?

Nearly every other club has these offers. Why is it so hard for this damn club to do it?

Last year the out of towners package provided 4 tickets to one home game for over $100\. What sort of dopey concept is that?!

So now they want me to fork out $100 to travel to Sydney 4 times, not realising I have to pay extra to fly there 4 times and extra again for accommodation there 4 times. That membership is more like $1000 if I'm frugal for an out of towner.

Unless the club wants to pay for my flights and accommodation, I might consider it, but given that won't ever happen, they can shove their membership up their backsides until they start using a modicum of common sense for a [This word has been automatically removed]ing change!!

the non-ticketed membership is to show your support for the club.

why do so many league fans think that a membership is all about money for what you get?? It's about being a part of your club, supporting them financially and at the game.

the extras are exactly that. EXTRAS.

I was going to say it is difficult for clubs offereing away tix….but just out of curiosity my first choice was cronulla, they have a sharks net Country/Interstate pack which offers tix to

1 x ‘Any Game’ General Admission (GA) ticket to a game of your choice at Remondis Stadium^
- 1 x GA ticket to attend one game at either Canberra Stadium, AAMI Park or Suncorp Stadium* = $100

https://nrl.secure.force.com/nrlsharks/showPackageToAnonymous?clubId=107

How though do they know they are playing away games at these grounds before the draws even been released???

maybe you can rock up to the game even if sharks arent playing?

so it technically doesnt matter, but liklihood is that sharks will be playing.

i expect crowds to improve strongly next year. especially if the NRL separates SOO from regular season. remove byes and give everyone the week off three times a year. that way we can aim for 20k avg by 2017-18ish.

Membership is about contributing what you can, at what level is appropriate to support your club.

thats exactly right!

personally, i have been a member utilising the out of towner's package and love it! i live in perth, so getting a good deal for attending games is not my priority by any means…

i love the cap, keyring and sticker!! i wear my cap to the gym (also love the training singlets), have the keyring on my keys and put the sticker on a lever arch file i have at work.

for me these little tokens of support tell people "im a tigers fan!" and especially with being in perth can contribute in a very small way to brand recognition...

any seed planted is better than none! who knows, maybe some kid has seen my cap and thought he likes the look of it and became a tigers fan?

the idea is creation of awareness, and people liking it. the most important factor in this is a success on field, which leads to more media coverage, and so on and so on....

secondly, once people discover the tigers, public image is important. personally, even though i have supported the tigers and balmain since 1982, i am happy that in large (there have been a few over the years) wests tigers are a fair team with no knobs like bird, et al at the club.

Good post Turnstyle.
Should see my locker at work…6 years worth of WTs membership stickers, as well as a lot of other crap on it
