Langlands??????

His illness will prevent him from defending this accusation, which is very unfair if it is false.
If true however, he deserves the stain on his character thats coming his way.
The alleged victim has her own reasons for bringing this up now.

Funny how the story seems to have only come out AFTER it was made public that Changa had dementia and was in a nursing home a few months ago

I'm not saying he is innocent or guilty , but it looks bad from the complainant's angle imo

Wow the person being accused after 40yrs has no way of defending himslelf how convieniant! I think anyone that committs this type of crime should be executed …Langlands life is now destroyed his legacy is lost and he will never be able to defend himself and he will be trailed by media the new Australian way ..there is no winner here .

It’s a slippery slope at the moment
It’s too easy these days to point the finger at people on social media with little or no evidence and it seems no retribution to the accusor if the accused is found innocent
Huge believer in innocent until proven guilty and I think anyone who publicly accuses prior to police investigations and then the accused is found innocent should be put up on charges themselves.
If you have been abused go to the police and let justice prevail - stay off social media

So sad for the victim.

If true, he should be stripped of the title.

and what if he is innocent, shame who ever done this waited to the man cant defend himself, i also thought we were innocent in this country until proven guilty, or has gone out the window. not defending the bloke but if his rights are taken away then mine and then yours can also be taken away.

We are definitely in a "trial by media" where you are guilty unless you can prove yourself innocent, Even if you can you have lost respect and will never recover from the allegations as it is not sensationalist as the original accusations.
Do not know the facts in this case just stating how the system now works.

Maybe the alleged victim, was fearful of coming forward because of shame. Maybe they came forward because they heard he wasn't well and wanted to bring it to light before he died.

Maybe the victim is langlands, and maybe this is a horrible person who accuses a man who can't defend himself. If false then it is also a horrible thing to do to those who have truely been victims of abuse and are thinking of coming forward as it casts doubt.

Either way a horrible turn of events for all including society. But the one thing that is great is that there does seem to be a growing number of people coming forward from all parts of life, naming predators. Cause in my opinion those that prey on children are the lowest of the low.

Although I have read that many perps were once victims. Sad anyway you look at it.

I was thinking more along the lines of the alleged victim has her reasons for coming forward after 35 odd years....not since his illness was publicized

Well he is broke , so she won't be getting a dime

No…I wasnt thinking along those lines either

it's unfortunate and i hope the victim and his family have had a good life so far and continue to have it no matter what.

however, this matter should be ended right here coz it sets a dangerous precedent. if the main people in a case i.e the suspect or the key witness can't communicate properly, then what's even the point?

and we've long talked about immortals.. are they immortals on the field or off?

I really don't see what someone gets out of accusing someone who has dementia if the accusations are false.

And also as the number of high profile people are recently being outed the alleged victim may have felt it needed to come out. As a previous poster stated we are likely to see a lot more high profile people accused of things from their past.

It could be someone who has held a grudge against the man for decades and decided to erase his legacy. Im not saying this is the case but it is certainly a possibility. Almost impossible to prove either way.

I do not know the details, but I lean strongly towards the alleged victim.

These mongrels pass themselves of as respectable persons of society and often through networking amongst fellow predators create their own sordid little world. I have been a victim of these monsters and as a pre teen had to kick and ram through a security screen to escape before they could really harm me.

Sadly, I later found out friends and others had fallen victim to them, with one ending his life a few years later. I got my payback on one as he got out of his car in the dark battle axe driveway of his rented home and again years later when he was introduced to me as Don, rather than Bob, which was the name his fellow deviants called him.

He did not recognize me, but I knew damn well who this bastard was and let his wife and work colleagues, that included my mate's brother, know in no uncertain terms what he had done to others and had tried to do with me.

One of the reasons that I would never want to press charges is from watching a young rape victim get torn to shreds in the witness box at Parramatta court. She was raped alright and by five blokes that I formerly called friends, yet she was the one left ruined and her perpetrators only had to pay for the silks that publicly abused her for a second time at their behest.

Delayed complaint in child sexual assault matters is a very well researched and recognised phenomena. Numerous studies into the reasons for delayed complaint in these matters have been done based on validated data (i.e. cases where the abusers admitted their guilt when confronted following delayed complaint). There are many reasons that abused children may not complain for an extended period, including: feelings of powerlessness; fear that they will not be believed; feelings of ambivalence towards their abuser; feelings of shame and self-loathing; a refusal to acknowledge the abuse as a coping mechanism; fear that disclosure of the abuse will harm their family or the family of the abuser; fear of revictimisation as part of the trial process; and it can also be an incident of PTSD suffered as a result of the abuse. None of that means that all delayed complaints are true, just that it is not safe to assume that a complaint is any less likely to be true because of the fact it is delayed.

With the Harvey Weinstein story going on, and all the women speaking out against him now, it is possible that this could have inspired the victim. Or it could just be coincidence, and only now do they feel okay coming out about it. Or maybe it has something to do with his health. Only the complainant knows this for sure.

And then you see the Melissa Sue Gilbert accusations against Oliver Stone with the Doors movie

She was after the role Meg Ryan where she plays Pam

Please she was told about a particular scene in the movie and chooses to run out and then labels it harassment 30 odd years later

People in these cases need some sort of anonymity until found guilty , then by all means throw them under the bus

I have been in a situation myself where a girl tried to kiss me when she was consoling me after hearing of a death of a relative many years ago

Mud sticks trust me

Well I think everyone here has prefaced their comments "If it turns out to be true" Even the NRL is saying there is a legal process to be followed before any discussion about his "Immortal" status.

And remember this is not someone speaking out to the media. The only reason anyone is aware of the allegation is it being mentioned in a Brisbane lower court. So that would suggest some form of investigation has been ongoing and further there appears to be enough basic evidence to such Langlands has to answer to the charges presented.

It's not just the women in Hollywood, but there's a whole spate of male actors who are now coming out about how there were abused when they were younger, mainly by other older actors on set like Kevin Spacey! Ah it makes me cringe! There are so many predators out there, always has been, it's really not that hard to believe that Langlands may be another one.

Why do it now when the bloke has advanced dementia though and it's likely it won't go to trial? Judging by the general reaction it appears though it is a pretty common view that if a conviction cannot be recorded why even bother? Likely because they may not have known he was ill. I know I didn't.

I get it is a possibility it's a smear story but I don't see what is in it for the complainant when it's likely to get tossed out. Nothing will happen to his immortal status unless some sort of conviction is recorded, so again I don't see the point.

Who knows, might be a knock on effect from all the insipid stuff happening in the US, maybe heaps of women are now finding the courage to call out their abusers which is not a bad thing IMO.

If its true and I lean towards it probabaly is as police wouldn't charge such a well-known figure without reasonable proof then dementia or not should spend his last days rotting in a prison hospital.

All sympathy should be with the victim if its true

#metoo

People born in the 90's think that Sexual assault is easier to talk about and report. People born in the 60's were told to SHUTUP about it. Then add in all sorts of family and other variations into the mix.

The #metoo is just flushing out more of this crap that people are Genuinely scared to talk about. It is a very good thing that if it runs it's course will just expose all this behaviour.

Sadly if Langlands has Dementia, we will never know if it is true or false. It's also dangerous to have things published at the "accusation" stage and not the "conviction" stage. No Denying that this is a very prickly area.

That said, the good of this behaviour being exposed outweighs the damage, for now.

Also Google ad sense 😱pen_mouth: ! "Womens Period Panties" being advertised on this post?

One good aspect that can come out of initial exposure is that it can activate other victims of the same person to come forward which make the case a lot more importance. I have not heard of any case of collusion of non victim/scammers to falsely defame somebody.
