Latrell Mitchell Contract Discussion

Make no mistake, if we pull this off, it will be the biggest thing that has happened to this club since 2005. It will all but make up for losing Tedesco. This is a defining moment imo.

@GNR4LIFE Agreed

I know he "may" be a little mentally fragile but ability wise I think he is on par with JTed at least - some may say a risk but jeez someone of his ability on "similar" money as JRey and Mbye.....fantastic outcome if it happens.....

I’m as excited as anyone that Mitchell might be with us in 2020. Though I will say it concerns me that I’m not sure he has the fitness or mental toughness to play fullback every week. My hope lies in the fact he’s still a kid and will grow into the role.

Just as an aside: how good would it be if he played so well that he took over Tedesco’s spot as NSW no1!! Ahh the perfect irony!!

If anyone can get him into the shape required for fullback its a Madge preseason hope LM is ready to work for his $$

He's not a proven fullback - so offering him 4 million over 4 years would be very risky. See how he's going after 2 years and then look to extend if both parties are happy.

Has it been reported anywhere apart from the fictional Daily Telegraph?

I think sporting news has reported it too.

You know what, I am of the opinion that if we sign an international premiership player on the money reported is a massive shot in the arm for the club.

We have always struggled with signing players at the rite price but for what we allegedly would get him for is a steal.

The bloke tore us to bits this year, I would rather him be with us then against us.
Get it done tigers.

I really hope the club can make this happen. Would have to be the most high profile signing in the clubs history and one that the Roosters wanted to keep.

It is the kind of signing this club needs to go to the next level.

I don't see any more risk than any other signing except it brings a current young superstar to the Wests Tigers.

Why are no other club interested though...

I know it's pessimistic, but I just can't see him coming here.

Originally, I was in the side of those who say too much money for someone so frustratingly inconsistent, but the more talk about him coming, the more excited I get about it.

Even if he doesn't deliver every game, it's such a massive signing that other positive things will start rolling in around it.

I feel exactly the same, I was in the NO camp initially especially after seeing his woeful performance for Australia that just tipped me right off him.
But.... This club needs a big name signing, it needs a player to excited about, and one in their prime and with plenty of upside.
We definitely need a fullback and a strike weapon and he fits both.

The $$$ are the ? but I think if he produces his best he's a bargain.
He'll definitely lift the confidence and belief in the team to a new level and we need to if we want to play semi finals footy.

So I can definitely see the positives outweighing the negatives.
At this stage though if we don't get him I can see that being a big kick in the guts and having a negative effect going into next season.

The biggest issue for me is a true million dollar player best and worst shouldn't be that far apart

Look at your Smith's ,Thurston's , Johns , Tedesco's ,Taumalolo's

That's why I question paying 1 million for Mitchell ...bit like spending a million on Hunt you just won't get enough million dollar performances in a season ....and particularly when you need it against sides like the Storm ,Roosters etc

Speculation Happy.
I would consider Mitchell to be worth more than million dollar blokes like Hunt, Foran , Ash Taylor, Milford, Pearce, Shaun Johnson, Jack Bird and plenty of others close to a million a year.
Plus he can still get better... it's worth the risk.

@happy_tiger If we relocate to South Australia we could easily afford a Million a year cos we have a 10c refund on bottles and cans over here. That means fans could help contribute to purchasing players. Just need 10 million VB or Coke cans. That'd be a weekend drink at Geo's place...in moderation, of course!

@Newtown I totally agree. If we do sign him and he gets fit enough to play fullback. Early prediction for Daily M!! Heard it here first

@Tweed_Tiger of that entire list I would only take the 2 JT's, Turbo and potentially DCE over Latrell. I think he is a great signing at 1m.

Kieran Foran for $1m a season over 3 years coming off all his dramas, injury history and the implosion at the Eels and before he'd even really fired a shot for the Warriors, has got to be up there as the worst contract ever entered into
Chairman Dib paid the price for it as did Dessie
Dessie has since kicked on back on the beaches, maybe he's best left to coaching and leave him away from the dollars negotiations, but maybe with the big contracts for the twin Turbos, DCE & even Marty, their problems aren't too far from surfacing again
Raylene Castle was the CEO that signed off on it, good luck Rugby Australia
